A continuous and extreme fear of being seen and judged by other people is a good indicator of social anxiety disorder. This anxiety might interfere with regular tasks such as going to work or school. Even making and maintaining friendships might become challenging. A person suffering from social anxiety suffers from an abnormally high level of worry around being constantly observed, scrutinized, and criticized while they are in the company of other people.
This fear may manifest itself in a variety of ways. People navigating social anxiety disorder are often concerned that others will view them as foolish, uncomfortable, or dull. They often put a great amount of effort into avoiding situations involving social interaction, group gatherings, or presentations. So, when people are unable to escape a social scenario, they feel a great deal of worry and distress. Many people who have social anxiety disorder also experience some physical symptoms, such as sweating, nausea, an elevated heart rate, and in extreme cases may have full-blown anxiety attacks when they are forced to face social situations. People who suffer from a social anxiety disorder often have the experience of being helpless in the face of their fear, despite the fact that they know that their fear is exaggerated and irrational.
About 15 million adults in the United States are affected by a social anxiety disorder, making it the second most frequent kind of anxiety disorder after a particular phobia. The adolescent years are often the time in a person's life when they first experience the symptoms of social anxiety disorder. It is essential to keep in mind that social anxiety disorder is not the same thing as shyness. Despite the fact that people
