INTRODUCTION
(Thunder crashes.
(Colossal waves slam against the ironwood hull of the large frigate as it tosses and bobs on the roiling sea.
(ZIM DULBADRIM enters the opulent cabin. He holds up a flickering lantern. Sweat coats his rough, olive-hued skin. With his free hand, he fiddles at the ropes of his braided hair, each a waist-long cord the color of spider silk.)
One shouldn’t hide in the darkness, says me.
(Zim sets the flickering lantern on his desk. He spies a sheet of parchment beside the lantern, upon which you see the words, ‘I AM CAEDMON VOSS’ VENGEANCE. Zim hurriedly scoops up the parchment.)
Dangerous, dangerous times. Precarious and uncertain, says me.
(Zim tears the parchment into thin strips, then holds the bundle in his hand, like a small bouquet.)
"For those with the sagacity to interpret such signs, it shall become increasingly apparent that an unnatural sickness now permeates the air. Ignis."
(The bundle of parchment catches fire.)
Daemons. Another Crystal War. Inevitable, says me.
(Zim watches, hypnotized, as the parchment burns in his hand.)
Conflagration...the end of all things.
(Zim drops the parchment strips. The fire burns itself out and leaves only ash on the floor.)
"Because everyone is just too damned preoccupied with owning more camels than their neighbor or drinking the latest imported Orcspresso from Kraulgug’s. In truth, books are judged by their covers, and appearances are everything."
(Zim unsheathes an unadorned iron dagger.)
"But appearances may be deceiving, says me. This little needle ended the life of the last king of Galduin. It ended a decades-long war with the Deacaiyeth Empire. Yet, who wielded this historical relic? Why, Benjamin the Fifth’s favorite whore, who’d just told the king that she carried his child, to which he laughed right in her face.
(Zim holds the dagger to the light.)
"History. The weight of empires and kingdoms. This whole ship is
