INTRODUCTION

In flash fiction, each 500-word story tells a complete narrative. This anthology continues the Saga of Sir Bryan of Erdenwald, introduced in Flashes of Virtue and Honor. We learn of his past and of his journey to becoming a knight of Virtue and Honor.

We also learn more about the sorceress Auria Snow: her past with the wizard Caedmon Voss, as well as how she came to her cottage in the wood, and what happened to her and Hendrik so many years ago.

Finally, we see the conclusion of Sir Bryan’s quest to reverse the curse on poor Hendrik Waldmeyer.

These stories were great fun to write, and I hope you enjoy them.

HONOR FOR LOVE

Serena Talbot spun her staff in a fluid arc, then leveled it at the soldiers charging her.

"Levitio contanagratis!" She shouted.

The Imperials fell to the dirt, their arms stiff at their sides.

Serena! Marquis Gregor Wulfram appeared through the swirling haze of the battle, atop his mighty destrier. He clambered off the warhorse and unsheathed his double-edged greatsword.

Gregor! Serena’s golden blonde hair whipped up as an artillery barrage exploded nearby.

What of the Commanders? She shouted.

All dead! Gregor said.

He moved among the magically bound soldiers and ran each one through with his sword.

Wait! The last Imperial, a boy no older than fifteen, screamed. Mercy!

Gregor swung the sword in an overhead arc with such force that the boy’s head came cleanly away with a gushing fountain of red.
