Mail Order Bride - Miss Marie

    The Bet

"I can't do this. I can't wait up for you and wonder if you're ever going to come home alive. I can't do it. I'm sorry." Eyes stared up at the white ceiling, dark eyebrows drew down in anger, and the figure rolled over. A loud thud resounded around the area as the body hit the floor and a masculine voice grunted, Fuck me. The male sat up from the floor, the white walls taunted him, the same color of the dress that she wore when she ran out on him. How long ago was that?

Four years. He looked up, Four years ago Charlie. Why are you still thinking about her? She's moved on and so should you.

A sigh, It's hard. She said that in front of everyone at the altar Rick!

I know. We were all there, trust me, we're still pissed off at her but you gotta let it go. He gave a silent nod, Now that you're up, breakfast.

    Yeah, yeah.

Make sure you shower because you stink!

    I do not.

"Yes you do. You reek of self-pity."

    Ha ha very funny Rick.

The man grinned while he rubbed his fingers across his goatee, Yup! Now get up and get over her Charlie. Move on. There was some silence before Rick added, "I'm still jealous that your goatee is better than mine. Fuckin' Doctor Strange."

    Quit it with the nickname!

Not until you get a lady! came the fading singsong of his friend. Charlie only shook his head while he got up from the floor. He made sure to make his bed before he proceeded to take shower, if only to literally wash off the figurative self-pity, and maybe feel better about himself. Once he finished, a fitted white shirt was pulled over his body, and a pair of jeans. He slipped on socks, shoes, and headed to the kitchen to see what Rick had conjured.

    This better be edible.

Rick gasped, How dare you?! It tastes quite fine thank you! He looked at the other three that were seated there, their faces told him everything, it was awful. You guys like it right? His attention turned to the others, Shaun? Mark? Leon? Silence, God dammit! You guys are awful! Cook your own damn food! Even though it was said in a mock sad tone, they knew it was all in good fun, and Charlie shoved him out of the way. Hey!

"Move it. I'll cook. Get rid of whatever that is that you made them."

Shaun laughed, Thank god! You're no longer wallowing in pity!

    You're starving then.

Wah! No way! You can't do that! One look over his shoulder made him rethink his words, Sorry. Sorry Charlie. Please. I'm hungry and if I eat whatever it is that Rick made then I'm going to die right now.

Alright, you don't have to complain. Shaun grinned and thanked him, Any time.

Have you decided to, maybe, venture out into the dating world again? asked Mark.

    Maybe.

Leon smirked, Let's make a bet. While Charlie whipped up some eggs, pancakes, and toast; Leon continued. A slight nod from their chef told them that he was listening, If you don't get a date by this evening, even through an app, we get one for you. They all looked at Charlie, he shrugged, Perfect!

What, exactly, do you have in mind? asked Rick. Leon.

Just something that I overheard at Dalley Port. The others were perplexed with whatever it could have been but Leon didn't say anything else on the matter. "My sister
