This is book 2 of the Satan's Cubs MC romance series! Book 3 is available everywhere now!

Will he save my life, or just drag me back down to the muck?

Hi, my name is Melanie, and I'm an alcoholic.

I can't remember a single night in the last six months I wasn't drunk.

It's the only way to get through my miserable life.

But it's slowly killing me.

It's time for one last ditch effort to change things before it's too late.

One more shot at redemption.

As it turns out, redemption is six feet tall and rides a Harley.

Jax Patton is a tattooed devil with demons of his own.

He's trying to break the vicious cycle of his addiction, just like me.

We find hope in each other.

In his arms, with his kiss, I feel like maybe we can make it out of here alive and intact.

But the world has other plans.

And Jax's line of work might end up being the final nail in our coffins.

He's a drug runner for a Colombian cartel, and they won't be content with his half-hearted commitment.

So he's got two choices:

Go all-in on their offer of drugs and violence…

Or say goodbye to ever seeing me again.

I finally discovered happiness in the shape of a rough, savage biker with a heart of gold.

But will he give up everything for me?

    Chapter 1

Melanie looked at the clock on her computer and made a pouty face at no one. Time seemed to be moving as slow as possible without Jax there. She knew it was going to be hard with him gone and knowing what was going on, but she could never have imagined how hard. She’d spent the past two days applying for jobs and playing solitaire on her computer and then she ended up taking some of the money he left with her and adopted a cat. A cat! She couldn’t believe how frugal it was, but he seemed to keep her a bit of company. The name on his collar said Cheetos, so she just stuck with it. He was an orange tabby anyway. He was certainly good at keeping the bugs out of her apartment.

As she sat there eating a Hot Pocket and sipping on boxed apple juice, some of the worst possible scenarios ran through her mind. She was surprisingly worried about Jax, more so than she’d ever been worried about any guy. What if he got caught and was in a jail somewhere? What if he ended up in jail in a foreign country and never came home? What if they beat him up in prison? Then, there were the concerns about the direct job dangers. Other gangs were a real problem, a violent problem at that, and if the Colombians sensed anything wrong they could very well just shoot him, too. She saw movie scenes flashing through her head, and she felt like she was about to panic.

This was the problem with not having a job; she had no way to distract herself while he was away. She was going to have to find one soon or get a hobby of some kind.

She jumped up as her phone rang, wondering if it was Jax. Was he going to need bail money? Had he been hurt? She rushed to the phone to see she didn’t recognize the number. She usually didn’t pick up the phone when she didn’t know who it was, but this time something told her to.

Hello, she breathed into the phone. It felt like the anxiety was going to explode out the top of her head.

Yes, is this Melanie Verratti? asked a woman’s voice. Was it a hospital calling wanting her to identify a body. Then, she shook her head as if it would clear it. That was a paranoid and ridiculous notion, and she knew it.

Yes, this is her. How may I help you?

I am calling from the office of Dr. Joe Sandals, and I am looking at your application. I see that you have some extensive experience in an office setting, is that correct? It was one of the jobs she’d applied for. She couldn’t believe they were already getting back to her, and with more than just a rejection email. She suddenly felt squirmy.

Yes, actually. I was at the last office for three years.

Yes, I can see that. Are you still looking for a position?

Yes, definitely. She was trying not to squeal or make any other excited noise over the phone that would make them think twice about hiring her. If she remembered right it was a good job with great benefits and lots of paid vacation.

Okay, that’s great. Would you be available for an interview tomorrow morning at ten thirty?

Yes, that sounds great. She was barely holding it together now. She hadn’t received any interview offers since she lost her job. That, plus being sober for 90 days, was really making her have hope again for her life.

Okay, I am emailing you the directions right now. Please arrive fifteen minutes early if you can. Oh, and dress warm. I hear it’s supposed to be pretty chilly tomorrow morning.

I will. Thank you so much. Melanie waited until she could hear the click before she hung up as well, and then she did a happy dance in the living room. She couldn’t believe she’d actually gotten an interview.

She went straight to call Jax but then remembered she couldn’t do that; he was unreachable. She settled then for a text message, something he could see and respond to if he ever did get the chance. She added Caleb and Irene in on it, too.

Hey you guys, guess what????? I just got an interview for tomorrow morning! I’m tres excited!!! Xoxo Melanie

She felt her phone vibrate in her hand almost immediately and looked down. It sadly wasn’t Jax, but it was Caleb.

Wanna celebrate? I’m at Jude’s.You can come pick me up and we can go get some movies and pizza, take it back to my place.

Melanie thought about it for a minute. Jude’s was a bar in uptown where Caleb often went to party and pick up guys. She hadn’t been in a long time for good reason, but it wouldn’t hurt for her just to pick them up. She’d just have to be careful and not drink. What temptation could there be in the five minutes it took to get in and out?

Be there in fifteen. Did you invite Irene?

Yep, she’s here with me, so get over here sista!

Melanie smiled and ran to her closet to grab the first appropriate thing she saw and pull it on. The pants were a little tight, but it didn’t really matter since it was only going to be Irene and Caleb. She let her hair down and finger brushed it as she ran out the door, keys in hand. Things seemed to finally be looking up for her, and she deserved a night of fun. Temptation could not ruin how she felt.
