About this ebook

Welcome to Club Reign. A Chicago nightclub located on the iconic Navy Pier. Here, the drinks will flow like the waters of the Great Lakes; and by invitation only, so does the pleasure. But before you enter, just remember – What happens downstairs, stays downstairs.

So, are you ready to enter the underground world of sex, fun, and pleasures of all kinds?

Rian (Reign) O’Brien thought she could escape the life she hated, and the destiny that was created for her before she was even born—but she was wrong. When an unwanted visitor shows up with news from home, Reign is forced to come to terms with a future she never wanted. But she doesn’t plan to go down without a fight. If she has to unwillingly sacrifice her soul, then she plans to raise hell every step of the way.

All Brutus O’Dowd wants is a peaceful life on his family farm—alone. But when he receives news that Rian is on her way back, he knows his quiet existence is coming to an end. And he’s not happy—or at least that was the case before he laid eyes on the tattooed, raven-haired beauty.

Alpha versus Alpha – Dominant versus Dominant.

And neither plan to stand down.

Sparks will fly as attitudes and tempers flare. Will Reign and Brutus be able to find common ground? Or will their perfectly matched personalities be too much for the other to bear?

Either way, the passion that ignites between these two will heat more than just the bedsheets.

    Prologue

Standing in her office, she looked around. So many years she’d spent building this place. Making it her home away from home. She should have known that no matter how much she dreamed, it would never be a reality. Not for her. If anyone knew that it was impossible to run away from responsibilities – it was Reign O’Brien.

Walking over to her desk, she sat in the soft, black leather chair and sighed.

So many emotions filled her heart, and none of them were good. There was nothing good about her situation. It was wrong. Archaic. And Reign truly felt as if all the rights she had gained by coming to American, were being ripped away from her.

Leaning down, she opened the safe underneath her desk and pulled out the black box and folder beneath it. Opening the box, she looked inside to see the bane of her existence.

    Her crown.

While so many little girls dreamed of her life, Reign wanted no part of it. There was nothing romantic or fabulous about forced marriages and responsibilities.

Lifting the crown from the box, Reign thought back to a time long ago when her life had forever changed. When life had taken a turn and she ran to try to put as much distance as she could between her and the nightmare she was living.

    ~ ~ ~

"We must tell her," her father had said.

"There is no need, her mother had replied. Telling her will not change anything."

"Eliza, he sighed heavily. She has a right to know her future."

"She has no such thing!" Her mother’s voice rose.

Reign stood outside of the room listening to her parents argue. It was her eighteenth birthday and was supposed to be a happy occasion, but judging from the tension between her parents, it would be anything but.

"She is old enough to know the path her life will take."

"I said no!" As Queen, her mother always had the final word.

Reign and her mother never saw eye to eye. They barely tolerated each other. Her father, on the other hand, was her best friend. She adored him. Which made hearing the sadness in his voice so hard for her. And that was why she had entered the room and demanded to know what was going on.

The argument between her and her mother had been a huge one.

Reign wasn’t someone who backed down to anyone, not even the Queen. She held her head high and matched her mother in attitude and verbal wit. Back and forth they went at each other until her mother primly stepped up to Reign and said the words that had haunted her mind every day since –

"Be careful child, she said snidely. I own you and your future – in more ways that your little head can imagine. And trust when I say, I have it all mapped out. Every small detail, including your future husband."

Her eyes shot to her father’s. And from the sad look on his face, Reign knew her mother was telling the truth.

    "Wha… What?" She stammered.

Her mother laughed. Go ahead, Franklin. Her mother waved her hand. Tell her. You wanted to so badly. Well, here is your chance.

And with that, her mother walked out of the room.

    "Daddy?"

"I’m so sorry, Rian." He looked so devastated.

    "No…" she whispered.

"It’s the way things have always been done, sweetheart."

"What?" Reign couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

How did she not know this? How in the hell could they do this to her? She didn’t want a marriage like her parents. Two people who could barely tolerate each other. She wanted love. Passion. A partner, in every meaning of the word.

As her father stood there quietly, Reign’s sadness morphed into anger. There was no way she would allow their life to become her future. With shaking hands, she reached up and removed her crown. Slowly, she set it on the table.

"What are you doing?" Her father asked.

It was an unspoken rule that crowns were always to be worn, unless they were in the privacy of their personal rooms. It was the first time Reign had ever broken that rule.

"I’m done." Reign shook her head.

"You are the future Queen, her father reminded. You will never be done, my dear."

Reign walked over to her father and pressed a kiss against his cheek. I love you, Father. Then, she turned around and walked out of the room.

Quickly, she made her way down the hall and out the front door. She jumped into the family car and pulled out of the drive. The entire time, her father called her name from the entryway and staff members stared, open-mouthed.

    Reign hadn’t cared.

She had driven across the small village to the docks, and without looking back, she walked aboard a boat heading to the mainland. Once there, she simply hopped on a plane… and never looked back.

    ~ ~ ~

Until now, she said out loud.

Staring at the crown in her hand, Reign also recalled the day it was returned to her. She had just come home from the club and exited the elevator of her high-rise apartment building to find Marshall, her mother’s assistant standing in front of her door, waiting on her.

Marshall had been with the family for as long as Reign could remember, and he understood her need to leave. He understood her desire to buck the system. Marshall had simply smiled at her, hugged her neck and handed her the box with a card. Then, he’d left without a word. It had been Reign’s twenty-first birthday. Three years since she’d seen or heard from any members of her family or the Royal Court. Reign had been shocked to see him, and even more so that he’d brought her a gift. She had rushed inside to open it, only to discover her crown, and a note from her father to let her know he was thinking of her.

Reign sighed, pulling away from the memory.

She stood from her desk and set the crown back into the protective box. Pacing her office, she tried to stretch the tension from her neck and shoulders. However, with each step she took, Reign became angrier.

Who the hell did her mother think she was? Reign thought to herself. What is this? Sixteen-forty-five? Who still arranged marriages?

A knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts, which was probably a good thing because, with the way they were heading, Reign would probably do something stupid. Like rob a bank. If she was in jail, she couldn’t leave, right?

    Come in, she called.

Slowly, the door opened and the two people she didn’t want to see stepped through. Princess Rian. Marshall bowed. Queen Eliza.

    Chapter One

    Reign

Reign’s stomach turned at the reminder of her real name and title.

Her eyes narrowed as her mother walked in, looking around her office as if the place somehow offended her. Immediately, Reign became defensive. Truly, her mother brought out the worse in her.

Can I help you? Reign said, not bothering to bow in her mother’s presence.

The plane leaves in an hour, Queen Eliza replied.

And your point is? Reign asked.

You shall watch your tone, young lady.

I shall do nothing of the sort, Mother, Reign countered. "This is not Inis Oírr. You have no authority here. And this is my house. Therefore, if anyone stands above another, it is I."

Please. the Queen waved a dismissive hand. "This place is nothing to be proud of. Sex. Drugs. And who knows what else. Really, Rian? You should be ashamed."

Reign laughed. Tsk, tsk, tsk. She shook her head. Seriously, Mother. If anyone should be ashamed, it is you. Selling off your child for what? A few acres and some sheep? Classy. Real classy.

Her mother rolled her eyes. Reign wanted to smack her.

Is there anything that you wish for me to fetch for you, Princess Rian? Marshall asked, trying to break the tension in the room.

No, Marshall. Reign turned to look at him. And I will not be flying back with you. I shall arrange for my own transportation.

You will do no such thing! Her mother shouted.

Reign raised a brow, and slowly a humorless smile spread across her face. Reign took a step towards her mother but stopped within arm’s reach. She could tell the close proximity had gotten to the older woman, but she didn’t care.

    Good. Let her worry.

Out loud, Reign said, Um. Let’s see, shall we? Out of all of us in this room, I am the only one with legal rights to be in this country. Reign tapped her chin. And really, all it would take is a phone call to the Embassy to inform them that my mother, the Queen of Inis Oírr, wishes to force me into marriage with a stranger so that she can gain an extra ten cents a month. Reign crossed her arms. Do you really think the US government would force me to leave?

Do not try me, Rian. Her mother warned.

    That goes both ways, Mother.

Reign wasn’t giving in. If she was returning home and agreeing to this stupid mind-fuck of a charade, then she would do it on her terms. And truthfully, she’d rather fly coach in a plane full of screaming infants, while being sandwiched between two hillbillies who haven’t bathed in a week, than be stuck in an airplane with her mother for the next ten hours of her life.

My Queen. Marshall interrupted. Maybe allowing Princess Rian to come via the Commoner’s aircraft will be best.

Her mother looked at him, and then back at her. She saw the gleam in her mother’s eyes. Reign know what Marshall was trying to do. He was making it sound like the idea of Reign traveling in such a manner would be a punishment. Therefore, manipulating her mother into agreeing to Reign’s terms. And right then, Reign wanted to hug him. But she didn’t. She stood there, eyeing her mother, daring her to disagree.

Very well, her mother finally conceded. However, if you are not back home in three days, I will use everything in my power to have your status here in America revoked.

Reign bit her tongue. She was getting what she wanted, kind of, so she wouldn’t push her luck. Also, she knew her mother had the power to make good on her threat. As much as she had enjoyed her freedom and liked living in the States, Reign had to wonder – was she ever really free?

She watched as her mother turned to leave, but before she did, Reign didn’t fail to notice the look of disgust on her face.

    Whatever.

She knew that no matter what she ever chose to do with her life, Queen Eliza O’Brien would never be happy. Reign could have become the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, and her mother wouldn’t have cared. The Queen wouldn’t be happy until Reign took her rightful place. And honestly, she didn’t think that would truly make the older woman happy, either.

As Marshall turned to follow her mother, he handed Reign a folder and winked. Be safe, Reign, he whispered.

She gave him a small smile.

She really did like Marshall. How the man was able to tolerate her mother, she would never know. But Reign made a mental note to give the man a medal of honor for his effects.

When the door closed, she walked back over to the desk and sat down. She had a few more things to get done before she could leave, and she needed to decide what to do with her condo – leave it empty or rent it out. Not to mention, Reign needed to get the paperwork together for her friends to run Club Reign while she was gone.

Turning on her computer, she opened her email and downloaded the packet that her lawyer had sent. Inside, contained the detailed roles of everyone – Savannah, Dominic, Storm, and Brooklyn. The four people she was trusting with her life. Or at least, her livelihood.

After that, she would need to head home, pack, and purchase her plane ticket. Reign had no intention of stay in Inis Oírr for long. As far as she was concerned, she would be racking up frequent flier miles between Chicago and Inis Oírr. She might have to lead a small Irish country, but she wouldn’t be giving up her life. It was modern times, after all. Women
