CHAPTER 1

DENIAL

The Tao bar, Mid Town Manhattan, New York City, September 2017

The attractive man in his mid-forties, standing at the bar, nursing his Manhattan, was called Jack Sauer. Caucasian, short brown hair swept back, with a receding hair line, much like one sees in old vampire movies. He was of average height, just under six-foot-tall and elegantly dressed in a dark Brook’s brother’s suite. He’d made his money in office furniture, which started with some ex government cast-off office desks that he’d bought on a government surplus auction for $50, and sold for $ 1 000, while he was a student at NYU. Now he was divorced for the third time, and this time he had kids, two boys. The mother ran away, scared of responsibility, leaving the boys with him. This was his evening ritual, one drink before heading home.

Suddenly he realized that there was a gorgeous young brunette standing next to him at the bar, staring at him. He turned to look at her.

‘Good evening Sir,’ she said.

‘Good evening.’

The young lady was in her mid twenties and was looking at Jack quite lasciviously.

‘Are you ever going to give in to what you are Sir? Because if you do I would be honored if you would consider me as a potential mate.’

‘I’ve no idea what you’re talking about young lady!’ with that Jack turned away in disgust.

‘Oh, Sir I didn’t mean to offend, it’s just......mmmm, an Alpha Wolf like you! Brrrr, makes me shiver just thinking of the possibilities. You do know what you are Sir, don’t you?’

In reply Jack threw some dollar bills on the bar and motioned to the barman, indicating the money, and walked out of the bar.
