To my sweet daughter,
Words could never fully describe my love for you. Thank you for gifting me the role of motherhood, for teaching me how to be patient and present, and for helping me to strive to be a better human. I will always cherish these precious first moments of your life with you cuddled up in my arms. You are my moon and stars, little one.
To my husband,
Thank you for providing so much support and comfort to me during my pregnancy and postpartum journey, and for always going above and beyond to keep me happy and sane. You are the only one I could do this parenting thing with, and I am so grateful for all you do for our family. I love you to the moon and back.
To my mother,
Thank you for enduring your hardships and carrying on with strength to bring me into this world. I am so grateful for our relationship and strive to have such a wonderful relationship with my own daughter throughout our life. I love you THIS much!
To my doula and soul sister Jaime Lynn,
Thank you for protecting me, supporting me, and taking care of me with so much love during my labor and transition into motherhood. You made me feel safe, loved and seen during the scariest moment of my life, and words can never truly express my gratitude to you. I will always be grateful that the universe sent you to protect me.
FOREWORD
Jacklyn’s work speaks for itself. So full of wisdom, humility, and love. You’ll shortly see what I mean but allow me to begin by telling you how I met Jacklyn. I had just moved to Long Island, New York. I am a birth and postpartum doula, and as you can imagine, building a birth business in a new state, during COVID no less, was challenging. I was able to connect with some local agencies and get some clients here and there, but it was Facebook that brought me to Jacklyn. A friend of a friend saw Jacklyn’s post in search of a local doula on the Brooklyn community Facebook page. My good friend Jenna sent me the post, encouraging me to reach out to her. Despite it feeling sort of strange to randomly message someone on Facebook, I figured why not. Worst case scenario, Jacklyn wouldn’t see my message at all or would be deterred by my unsolicited inquiry. Best case scenario, she’d be open to meeting me and would respond. As you could probably guess given that I am writing this foreword right now, she responded! And thus, our paths and our stars crossed.
I know it sounds cliche to say our stars crossed, but I couldn’t be more serious. There are people that walk into your life at the most perfect moment, and you can only attribute it to fate. That’s Jacklyn. And she would say the same of me. We had our first zoom meeting on a Monday afternoon in October and we immediately clicked. After our meeting, I thought, she’s the perfect amount of hippy dippy and earthy crunchy. The perfect blend of grounded and woo woo. She is so connected to herself and exudes warmth, kindness, and love. During our call she had expressed to me not only the vision she had for her birth, but the vision she had been given from her spirit guides that helped to carry her through her pregnancy and empowered her as she prepared for her birth. As a believer in raw, primal, natural, grounded birth, THIS was the kind of client I was looking for. Jacklyn was it. And once I met her and her hilarious, energetic, and kind husband, Jerry, in person I could
