True Love

Hitting all the right notes

Khulani (40), better known as Khuli Chana, and Lamiez (30) seem to have got it figured out. They’re one of those couples who inspire each other to be better and achieve more. We’re shooting Khuli and Lamiez at the beautiful Vivari Lodge and Spa in Mogale City. As the couple are avid spa-goers who enjoy weekly spa treatments together, the setting couldn’t be more fitting.

That Lamiez had a schoolgirl crush on her famous husband is now common knowledge. But on their first meeting at a gig, there was no way she wanted him to think she was a groupie. “I was pretty dismissive. I played my gig and left. Then, years later, we met at an event in Nelspruit where he was performing and I was playing. He stayed for my entire set and danced throughout it.”

He says: “My gig was a bit of a flop, but she was amazing. I was totally blown away. I thought she was the most gorgeous girl, and so talented. I was an instant groupie! There was something about her – and I loved her charisma. One of our mutual friends asked her if I could sing a few songs in her set as I had driven all the way to Nelspruit for this gig. I did, and it was great. A week later, we had our first date and ...”

“But we talked every single day leading up to the date,” she says. “I was so taken aback when he brought me tulips, my favourite flowers, and a Mickey Mouse teddy – just because I had mentioned in passing that I liked those things. I was impressed by his ability to listen. But it was more than that. I loved how attentive he was, how he treated the people around him and how much he loved his daughter – that was a big thing for me. He reminded me of my father – how he had lived for me too – and that was everything. And a month later, he told me he loved me.”

And that was just the beginning
