    Spoiled - Vanna Moore

    Momma's girl.

    Currently:

Iris sat looking over at her daughter in disbelief.

It was still hard to believe she went into labor on the day of her graduation. Iris never considered a few things: One she would miss her graduation and two she would be having a baby at the age of 22. She thought it was ironic she had only been out drinking maybe three or four legal times before she found out she was pregnant and quit. Not because she was partying too hard but because she found out she was pregnant.

She looked at her daughter who was currently a pale beautiful little girl with gray eyes and a head full of hair.

Iris could barely see the resemblance with her brown skin, slanted doe-shaped eyes, and dark curly hair.

Iris was half Japanese and black, carrying more black features than anything. She had full lips and her skin was on the darker side like her mother with her slim curvy petite frame which was a combination of both her parents. She looked a lot like her mother with a few of her father's Japanese features.

As she looked at her daughter she noticed she looked more Japanese than her as she smiled.

Without a doubt, even with barely any traits of herself, Iris was completely in love with the little girl she had carried for 9 months and just given birth to. She smiled because out of all things going on right now, besides her missed graduation her daughter was her best accomplishment.

She didn't think her pregnancy wasn't terrible but she was alone most of it. Her so-called friends abandoned her. Her classmates became distant. She stepped away on her own accord but not one of them came to check on her. Especially once word got out that she was pregnant. Iris was once a spoiled princess with a social life a mean girl would die for but it all changed in a course of a few months.

Iris stayed out of social events and only was spotted on campus for class. She was glad she carried small because as long as she wore an oversized hoodie no one knew. It wasn't as if she was ashamed but she was. She was having a stranger's baby and planned on being a single mom disregarding her own father's thoughts on the situation. Although she had set her mind to it her father didn't agree. He found out about the baby a few months ago and completely cut her off. It was a  pretty fucked up situation but she still managed.

Iris was used to her father paying all her bills, expenses, and all of her shopping extravaganzas per usual.

As harsh as it was he thought leaving her in a position like that would leave her helpless and subject to following his rules. In all actuality he was wrong. His cold shoulder only disappointed his daughter and made her resent ever telling him in the first place. Iris didn't need money. Her grandfather left her with a trust fund that she began to access since announcing her upcoming graduation last month. Prior to that, her grandfather had been paying her rent and still sent her a monthly allowance. Iris was technically still spoiled on all accounts; it was just not by her father anymore. She knew he was too busy spoiling his new wife by buying her happiness instead of earning it.

Iris turned to knock at the door as it broke her trance from her daughter.

Come in. She said to the knock.

In came two nurses smiling with three large vases. There was a set of iris, a small wisteria plant, and purple orchids.

    Iris smiled.

They were her favorite flowers as she knew it was her grandfather's doing.

Ojiisan (Grandfather). Domo arigato (Thank you). She answered his phone call as soon as she saw his name on her screen.

He laughed at her thanking him.

He knew his granddaughter knew no other Japanese unless it came to asking and thanking.

Iris, how are you? He asked her in his thick accent as he spoke English requesting to Facetime her.

He just so happened to be the only person she talked to nowadays as she accepted his request she smiled.

Good. Tired. She admitted in an oversized t-shirt and joggers with her hair pulled back.

Babies tend to do that. He chuckled, as usual, he was in a business suit.

She assumed he was at work. That didn't matter since he was a CEO he would call her any time of day. Even with a nearly 10 hours difference, he made sure they would talk. He simply loved his granddaughter and she admired how smart and wise he was. To the business world, he was ruthless. He was seldom seen as a happy man but for his granddaughter, he was just that.

She is beautiful. I wish you would come to bring her to see me. He said to her.

We will soon. I get to go home tomorrow and I can plan for a flight. Iris said, sounding happy.

She looked forward to bringing her daughter home, their home.

It does not have to be soon. He laughed knowing that a trip with a newborn baby wouldn't be easy going all the way to Japan.

Well once you're settled I can come visit? He offered.

He knew she was still mad about telling her father she gave birth but she could never be mad at her grandfather for long.

We will be expecting a visit. She smiled at him since she was a sucker for her grandfather.

I love you and I'm proud of you. He said to her, making her smile.

She knew without a doubt he loved her.

Iris accepted her father's stipulations for love but knew her grandfather's love was unconditional. She showed him her daughter as the two talked. It was about an hour before they decided to hang up as she waved at him.

Thank you again Ojiisan. I love you. She said to him before they hung up.

Dai, Iris' grandfather was Japanese and just so happened to have a large company that produced both in America and Japan. He was a man who judged people off their character. That's why he loved Iris's mother Annabelle. Even when people judged his son and said he was crazy he accepted her just as if she was a Japanese girl from his social class. Dai enjoyed spending time with Annabelle. She was not only funny but smart. He enjoyed how family-oriented she was but the moment she gave birth to his grandchildren he was forever grateful.

Iris made her way over to lay her daughter down as she once more began looking her over.

It was crazy how easy it was for her to love her, she thought.

She looked at her and leaned close to smell her scent.

Baby you are so beautiful. Iris told her to kiss her as she slept.

Not even with an unsuspecting knock, she turned to see her father Ren entering her room as he quietly opened the door.

You could have called. He arrogantly walked in adjusting his Armani suit.

For what? So you can call my daughter a bastard and say how much I disappointed you? Iris looked at her father.

He was a handsome Japanese man. He stood about 6'0 ft with a sturdy frame. He as usual was dressed in a suit as he walked up to her. He always wore a suit; she never understood it. It was like he was incapable of relaxing.

She hadn't spoken to her father in over a month and hadn't actually seen him in nearly four months. It was as if no matter how their conversation began it always ended in an argument. Iris rolled her eyes, sick of her father's hot and cold moods toward her and not up for dealing with what energy he was coming with.

Ren looked down at his granddaughter and he smiled.

He may have been many things but he was not one to deny his bloodline.

Her dad's Korean? Chinese? White? He said trying to place her facial features.

Black. Iris said not saying much more.

Really she wasn't sure what she could say. All she knew about the man who fathered her daughter was that he was called L and he was tall, handsome, and African American with light brown eyes. Everything else was all unknown.

She barely looks it. Her father said as he looked at his daughter.

You don't even look like you had a baby. He said shocked looking her over.

Iris stood 5'7 with a nearly flat stomach. He knew her mother Annabelle's pregnancy was much different. Looking at his daughter it was easy to see how he missed her being pregnant she wasn't even showing.

Dad what? Iris said knowing there was a reason he was there.

I noticed you didn't make it to graduation. I mean with a baby how will you make it to work? He asked her and she knew there was an underlying reason.

    Lately, there always was.

She rolled her eyes she knew that she wouldn't have any luck with getting a job with her father anymore. Her four years studying business practically went down the drain when her father said he couldn't have an unwed mother directing his business. He may have been her father but he was also a boss and he had his stipulations.

Nothin you'll have to worry about. Iris said as her father stood there.

The day you were born I promised to give you everything. I did and I regret it. He said as she shot him a look.

She was spoiled she knew that but it wasn't as if she was rotten.

Of course, Iris was used to getting her way. It wasn't as if she was a slacker socialite. It was since her mother's and brothers' death she masked her pain with socializing.

It had been four years and the pain still felt the same.

Is there anything else? Iris said as her father stared at her.

Some days it was hard not to see her mother. Just like his daughter, he missed his wife and son. Instead of spending his time with family, specifically his daughter he put it all into work.

Yes, Iris. The baby. He said, putting his attention back to his granddaughter.

She's perfect. Iris said making sure he knew she didn't regret having her.

    He nodded.

She is. He said, surprising her.

Iris gave him a look of confusion.

I know you'll be busy with work. So I figured the mishap in which she was born can be rectified. He said as Iris's face immediately changed.

He knew she was not even going to hear him out but he decided to try.

Me and Sophia can adopt her and raise her as our own. She won't get anything less than what you've received. Treated just as you were- He looked at Iris.

He was about to reach for his daughter's face and she slapped his hand away.

Do you think me or my daughter are business transactions? She scoffed at him.

Iris, you know that's not how it should be taken, Ren told her.

She's mine. Not yours. Or Sophia's. Iris started to shield her.

She's my blood. Ren said as it only enraged her more.

Do you think you have any claim to her? By blood? Didn't you tell me to leave wit my extra baggage? That she was the worst decision of my life? Iris said, getting upset.

Ren saw the hurt on her face and he felt guilty for saying those exact words.

Iris just think- He started before she calmly raised her hand.

Leave. Iris told him not even bothering to raise her voice.

Ren looked at her as she fumed with rage. He knew it wasn't good for her or his granddaughter as he nodded. He glanced them over once more before sitting down a manila envelope and walking out.

Iris looked at her daughter and knew no amount of money could buy her. It wasn't as if they were without. Her business intern job offered her permanent placement. Adding her trust fund she knew she and her daughter could live comfortably. Last month with half of her trust she made lucrative investments and she knew if she could turn off her expensive spending habit they would be fine.

Things weren't going as expected and they weren't easy but Iris knew they could be content. The day she went into labor she had just finished her daughter's nursery. Iris accepted it would be just the two of them. She just thought she would have at least gotten the chance to walk across the stage for her graduation.

    She let out a sigh.

One night changed everything but looking at her daughter she couldn't even say she regretted it. Iris told herself that if she did it meant she would regret her. That was the last thing she wanted and she could never do that.

Her daughter popped her eyes open as she smiled.

Iris could tell when she wanted to eat.

She walked to her room door, closing it all the way before she lifted her shirt and started to breastfeed her daughter just as the nurse had taught her the day before.

    Daddy's maybe.

Logan woke up stretching looking at his phone going off as he grabbed it.

Logan was light caramel with a low cut, a well-kept beard, and hazel eyes. He stood about 6 foot 2 with a small muscular build from his games of basketball and running the street.

Where are you at? Sean, his older cousin asked him.

Nigga you had a baby like 3 times already. Logan yawned at him.

    Sean sucked his teeth.

Logan knew Sean was simple. He was big on the family aspect so he always expected Logan to show up. Sean was his older cousin who had taken him in a few years ago. Logan was a typical badass, hard-headed teen until he moved in with his cousin. He moved in at 17 and now six years later it was hard to believe where he came from sometimes. Logan had caught a case when he was younger and instead of leaving him hanging or allowing him to go to prison out of no where his cousin came and bonded him out. Stipulations were simple: his house, his rules. Logan didn't mind because it beat prison or jail. It was shortly after moving in with Sean and his wife Kesha, that Logan realized he was getting a deal of a lifetime.

His cousin offered him a new life as long as he stayed out of trouble and kept his grades up in school. Logan thought it was all bullshit until his 19 birthday when he got him his first car. By his 20th birthday, he helped him with a stable job and when get got into college he helped him get his own place. Logan graduated two days ago with his bachelor in science aviation and was working on completing his program to be able to repair the planes he had trained to fly. Logan wondered what Sean would have up his sleeve this time around. It was always something good. He knew the only reason they didn't make it to his actual ceremony was due to Kesha being in labor but his friends showed up for support like they had always done.

First off this is my third kid and bring yo big-headed ass down here to meet her. Sean said as Logan sighed.

Another girl? Logan said, making Sean laugh.

Girl dad, okay. Now get down here before everyone else show up. Sean told him as Logan sat up.

Although it was just him and his cousin Sean, they had an extended family. Mostly it was Sean's best friend who was like a brother to him. Logan never understood it but the two were always in sync. It was hard to believe looking at the two now but Logan knew it was a time his cousin and Pain once ran in the streets. Really that's how Sean was able to win him over. Logan wasn't trying to hear him out until he put it in layman's terms.

Ight ight. Cause we know when Joy shows up she acts like she is the only person in the room. Logan joked about Kesha's best friend.

Long as you know. Sean said, laughing at him.

Also L, I'm proud of you. Sean said and Logan can hear him smiling.

Sean was actually the only person he ever met to believe in him. He had grown close with him over the years even with the age gap. He taught him so much and it was something he would always value. He was like a big brother more than anything and since being in his life he never steered him wrong. Logan thought he would look at him crazy when he said he wanted to be a pilot. Instead, he simply nodded and the next day returned with books for him and simple words of encouragement. Logan was forever grateful and knew one day when he got the chance he would repay him. In the meantime he figured doing well and showing up was the least he could do in return that gave him a new start.

Ight. I'm on tha way in 20. Logan said before hanging up.

Logan climbed out of bed and looked around his loft.

A bachelor pad in every sense of the word.

He had a one-bedroom loft that was right downtown. He was not only close to campus but in the heart of the city. He loved his place and wouldn't trade it for anything or anyone.

He glanced at the gold condom wrapper on the floor and picked it up.

    Last night he had company.

He was glad he kept a condom because if not he would be just like his cousin he chuckled.

One thing about Logan was that he was big on safe sex. He never had any slip-up and only had a condom ever break on him once and that had been recent. He started his shower thinking about that night. He recalled a beautiful woman screaming in pleasure. The two fell asleep after a night of passion and he ever saw her again. Ironic she was the only girl who didn't leave her number. He actually tried to find her but had no luck. He ran into her friend the same one who was with her that night. He passed along his number but never heard from her.

Logan licked his lips still thinking about her as he turned off his shower and dried off.

Logan got dressed putting on some sweats and a t-shirt before heading to the parking garage and getting into his car.

SEE NOW WHEN YO ASS fall in love you won't be actin like an ass. Sean warned his little cousin.

Uhm hmm you just whipped. Logan teased him as Sean laughed.

Who even says that? He asked as they walked down the hall.

I thought that was yawl lingo back in the day. Logan joked.

Bro fuck you. Sean laughed as he caught Logan doing a double-take.

The two were walking into the maternity ward towards Kesha's room when Logan stopped as he caught a glance of the woman he shared a night with.

He looked at her pushing the stroller and followed after her.

I'm be right back. He walked off leaving Sean.

Logan was sure it was her as he followed her petite frame.

He stopped when she approached the nurse's station.

Logan watched her as she stood asking questions.

So just fill these out and we can be discharged? Iris asked the nurse's station before she turned to Logan who caught her by surprise.

Yes. The nurse smiled at Logan who stood behind her.

Hey. He smiled at her causing her to nearly jump.

Iris grabbed her papers from the counter and turned toward him.

Uhm- She started unsure of what to say.

Logan. he extended his hand with a smile.

Iris Tanaka. She told him as he smirked.

Logan Light. He said with a small smile as she looked at him.

No bullshit my last name is Light. He chucked seeing she didn't believe him or a had a look of disbelief.

Iris gave him a small smile.

She didn't want to jump out with the first thing on her mind but she didn't know if she would ever get the chance to run into him. She had tried to find him months ago only to find out her friend Cassie had run into him and instead of giving her the number he left her with she tossed it in the trash. Iris knew she couldn't just assume she would run into him again as she had an internal debate.

Well, this is awkward? He said as she couldn't help but let out a light laugh in agreement because it was.

Uhm Logan do you have a moment? She asked as he nodded.

He seemed too oblivious to where they were or the fact she was standing in front of a stroller until the pair started walking.

Logan followed her around the corner to a hospital room in confusion as she walked in and stopped.

Can you shut the door? She asked as he nodded and shut the door to the hospital room.

He turned back around to see her writing on some paper's before looking up at him.

Iris straightened her composure before swallowing hard and letting out a deep breath.

He stood there looking at her confused as he scanned the room.

He noticed her name on the hospital board as he looked in disbelief. He was sure there was no way she just had a baby.

So this is goin to sound crazy but I'm jus going to put it out there. The night we got together umm the condom broke, I'm sure you can recall. Well, I got pregnant and I delivered my daughter, our daughter two days ago. She said as he looked at her and chuckled.

Logan noticed she didn't even change expressions.

He blinked a few times before looking around.

He was trying to figure out what kind of weird sick joke this was.

What? He said making sure he heard her right.
