Kevin Anderson exited his nardo gray RS7 and walked across the parking lot toward the lobby. He was in an unwelcoming mood. One he had been in for the past four weeks. And he knew the cause of his ill mood. Tammy Barnes. It would be the understatement of the year to say she left an impression on him. The feelings she stirred up inside of him just could not be put into words. But it was enough to scare him off. He knew he had encountered someone special.

Tammy needed the whole commitment framework. Quite frankly he just could not provide that for her. It was best that he ended things before it got serious. And he did. She looked hurt when he broke it off, but he couldn’t be the committed man she needed. It was better she only suffered a surface hurt now than invest years into a relationship only to gain deep scars. He had avoided her at all costs and so far, it had worked. However, she was the best friend of his soon to be sister-in-law and they were bound to cross paths soon.

He was brought back to the present by the slamming sound made by the sliding door on the Florist’s van. He turned around slowly and took in the grand opulence unfolding before him. He then slowly made his way over to his brother Michael in the lobby area.

You would think she was getting married with all the flowers. Said Kevin, as he looked at the Florist unloading an abundance of floral arrangements from the van.

Michael sipped on his red bull and replied, Well, you know Mom, everything has to be extravagant.

Yea...did you talk to Greg? Does he know he needs to be here on time? I’m not taking any grief from mom if he’s late. Said Kevin with a scowl.

Nah, I think he’ll be on time. Fran keeps him punctual. Said Michael with a snicker. Their brother Greg had just gotten engaged a month ago to Fran his childhood best friend. He had even found out that he had a daughter with her. They had gone through a kidnapping with Fran, but they seemed to be doing well.

Michael turned to his right and saw Kristy coming through the double glass doors at the entrance. His heart immediately skipped a beat. She didn’t see him yet, so he turned his attention back to Kevin. He didn’t realize Kevin had stopped talking and was silently watching him.

Kevin’s face broke into a grin like a Cheshire cat.

Well, well, it looks like your wings are clipped by an old flame. He said with a raised eyebrow. Kristy was Fran’s cousin and everyone knew that Michael and Kristy had dated when they were teenagers in Jamaica. Every time you were around them you could feel the tension between them crackling in the air.

I totally understand not wanting to repeat the mistakes in a relationship that your parents made and how that can have you second guessing things, yet I feel Kevin allowed for those feelings to consume him. I don't think he deserved a chance with Tammy after the way he dumped her. I was hoping she would move on to better. Either way, I hope he stays true to her and loves her unconditionally.

Good short read. Onto book 3.
