About this ebook

Lola returns to Thatcher College for her senior year. She is living in a house with her three best friends, Madeline, Karen, and Annette. Everything seems to be perfect for the start of the new school year.

But Madeline is no longer the woman she once was. Instead of the art major they all knew and loved, there is now Maddi, a bimbo. Lola and her normal friends are surprised and flabbergasted by the new Maddi. And it comes down to Lola to find out what happened to their friend.

Can Lola discover what happened to her friend? Is Maddi really a bimbo or is she just playing an elaborate trick on her friends. Will something happen to Lola along the way? Find out in Housemates.

This short story is 8,100 words long. It is the first book in the Back to School Series. All characters depicted in this work of fiction are 18 years of age or older.

    HOUSEMATES

H ello, Lola called out as she entered the house. Is anybody here? She had just arrived back in town to start her senior year at Thatcher College. It had been a long four-hour drive to arrive, but Lola was happy to be back at school and away from home. Three months of summer vacation was nice in theory, but it was liberating to be on her own.

Or mostly on her own. Lola and her three best friends had rented a house for the year and this was Lola’s move in day. There was no set time for them to move into the house. Their lease started all the way back in June and it was now the end of August, a week before classes were set to start. Lola had mostly kept in touch with her friends over the summer, but they each had something that kept them busy and made communication difficult sometimes.

Hi, Lola, Karen called back as she and Annette entered the living room where Lola had dropped her suitcase. Lola’s car was filled with more belongings, but she could not carry them all in a single trip. It was better to get herself situated first and figure out which of the house’s four rooms she would be living in for the next nine months.

It’s so good to see you, Annette added as the three came in for hugs. Lola felt relief at not being the first person to arrive. Although the fact the front door had been left unlocked was a good sign that someone had been home.

Is Madeline here yet? Lola asked once the greetings were complete. She was the last of the four friends.

She’s here, somewhere, Karen answered. But we haven’t seen her anywhere yet. She’s probably off at the art gallery.

Did you see her door? Annette asked. It’s all done up in pink and glitter and the sign on it says Maddi, with just an i at the end.

Lola shrugged her shoulders. Madeline had always been an odd duck. She was an art major and she seemed intent on making that clear from the way she presented herself. She had
