The music was loud in the house as Autumn arrived for the Halloween party. The front door had been propped open by a plastic jack-o-lantern filled with candy that trick-or-treaters would be coming to get. Inside, the decorations were spooky and gory, but the mood seemed light. People were drinking, talking and having fun. They were all dressed up, wearing various costumes.

Meanwhile, outside, a storm was raging. Only the most extreme trick-or-treaters would be out. Rain lashed down as lightning flashed in the sky, always followed by the roar of thunder. Thunder crashed overhead again making Autumn jump slightly before passing it off with a laugh. The storm only added to her nervousness about the party.

The moment Autumn walked in, she felt sudden shame for her basic costume. She had gone as a pumpkin this year, wearing a tight orange bodysuit with a plump pumpkin costume made from felt that forced her arms to stand out from her sides. She wore a hat with a dark green stem and a handful of leaves, covering her brown hair.

When Autumn had first been invited to the party, it had sounded like a lot of fun. But as the day grew closer, her anxiety got the best of her and she considered ditching. Still, part of her wanted to go, so she pushed through her fears and decided on her pumpkin costume. She chose it for its ease and because of her love of pumpkin spice flavoring. It was just a fun, low key costume.
