Christmas Poems for the Common Folk Like Me - Frances Tucker

    The First Christmas Eve

The shepherds were cold on that winter night

Having no thought of what was in sight

All stood still, dark was the sky

Yet they would encounter power from on high

For an angel came down to them on earth

To tell of a wondrous, Holy birth

The shepherds were filled with such awful fear

To have an angel from God come so near

Fear not, said the angel to calm their fright

As they stared with awe at such a sight

A King has been born, the angel did say

Now lay in a manger upon the hay

Because of this birth, all people can be free

Free of the sin that has come to be

Soon a host of angels arrived to say,

Glory to God on that Christmas Eve day

The shepherds rejoiced when the angels went away

They hurried to see this Babe in the hay

The message is true, oh, hear what I say

For our Savior was born on that Christmas Eve
