About this ebook

One Glorious Night is all about the night that Jesus was born. It's filled with truth and based totally on Scripture. But this book is very different from other books about the birth of our Lord. This book is a collection of seven unique stories of seven unique people who saw what happened that night. This author used her imagination to turn the facts into an emotional book about the glory that came down from Heaven on that very special night.

You will read each story through the voice of each person who was there, and you will see through their eyes the joy and the thrill that they beheld that night. The book begins with Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus, and how the angel came to tell her about her child, and you will live in her shoes as she tells her story of her engagement to Joseph, then her marriage, and then that amazing night when Jesus was born. You'll be there in the barn with her as she describes the glory from Heaven and all the angels that came down to the barn to worship Baby Jesus.

This book is filled with facts, highlighted with a bit of imagination, and loaded with emotion as you engage in each story and live that night through the eyes of those very special people. It is my hope that once you have read this book, you will feel in your heart the excitement and the joy and the glory that came down the night that Jesus, our Lord and Savior was born.

    Introduction

As Christians, it’s crucial that we know God so we can love Him and serve Him with a whole heart. We can only do that by praying and reading the Bible, and then we will understand who Jesus is and why His birth is so important.

We need to know the history that leads up to the events of Jesus’s birth so we can appreciate why it is so miraculous! It’s what the Old Testament prophets talked about, and it’s what the faithful men and women of God lived for. They knew that a Savior would come one day who would redeem them back to God, and so they waited and hoped for the promised Messiah.

This very message, the promise that God made to the Jews, was fulfilled in the New Testament with the birth of Jesus. His earthly life is set out in the four gospels of the New Testament but His birth is revealed in detail in the books of Matthew (chapters 1-2), and Luke (chapters 1-2)). These are the passages referenced in this book.

This promise of salvation was originally given to Abraham. His son Isaac had a son named Jacob, and Jacob’s 12 sons began the nation of Israel. These were God’s chosen people—His children—because they alone loved Him and followed His ways. But this promise now includes every person who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:13, by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Because of the salvation that Jesus has given freely to everyone, those who accept it are no longer defined as being either Jew or Gentile—we are now one nation now made up of Jews and Gentiles. So, every person who accepts the salvation of Jesus is part of this new nation, God’s kingdom.

Jesus truly is the reason for the Christmas season! The world may see Christmas as a time to party, and a time to decorate with Santa Claus and toys and Christmas trees, but as Christians, we see it as a time to celebrate our salvation! We want to worship God because He kept His promise and He redeemed us back to Himself through the shed blood of Jesus—and this is the same Jesus whose miraculous birth we celebrate at Christmas.

This book was written to emphasize the importance of this one glorious night—the night that Jesus our Lord and Savior was born. It’s filled with individual stories of the people who participated in this miraculous event. Each story is a personal recount of that amazing night according to each one’s own viewpoint as seen through the imagination of this author. Together with biblical facts, you’ll get a better insight into God’s love for you that was fulfilled on that night.

This author hopes that One Glorious Night will help you understand the wonder of Christmas and the magnitude of God’s glory that shone down upon the birth of His Son on that one glorious night.

    Preface

The story of the birth of Jesus is one of the most inspiring, and yet, controversial stories of all time. Those who don’t know the Bible claim it to be a myth that’s been passed down throughout the ages to appease the lonely mind. However, Christians hold fast to the Scriptures that foretell of this amazing event, and they rejoice in its truth.

Most people across the globe engage in some kind of celebration during the Christmas holiday season, even though it’s for different reasons and in many different ways. Regardless, there’s something in the air that has a great impact on almost everyone. It’s the time of the year when even the most humbug type of people are touched and extend acts of kindness towards others. And, of course, it’s that one time when the churches are filled to capacity with dutiful Christians who feel compelled to attend.

We can often sense a feeling of excitement and hope at Christmas time. Carols fill the airwaves, shoppers go on binges, and joy is felt all around us. Families come together. Laughter is heard everywhere. Feasts are shared with family and friends, and children delight in anticipation of Santa Claus coming with his presents. And although Christmas is often centered around Santa, it’s not this fictitious character that brings the heartfelt peace and joy during the season.

Unfortunately, though, the Christmas atmosphere has become one that’s inspired and regulated by the seasonal props of commercialism around us. Even Christians compromise the truth with the emotional worldly ambiance for the season, giving more attention to it than to God’s promise to us, which is our greatest gift.

Christmas is not about Santa or his reindeer, beautifully wrapped presents, family traditions, food, parties, decorated trees, wreaths and colored lights, or even yuletide carols. These make the season more festive, and it’s not wrong to enjoy them as long as we remember that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus, our Savior! Christmas is about Jesus!

The stories that are written in this book surround the night that Jesus was born. But to appreciate why this night was so special, we need to understand who Jesus is and why He came. And so we go back to the beginning to be reminded of what happened at that time that made it necessary for Jesus to come down from Heaven, take on a human body, and then be nailed to the cross.

When God created the Garden of Eden, He put two people in it. First, He made Adam and breathed His Spirit into him. He loved Adam and gave him full charge of the garden and of all the animals in it, but He also gave Adam one commandment. Adam was to never eat the fruit from one specific tree, which was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Then God formed a woman from Adam’s rib, and Eve was to be his helper and partner through life. God was pleased with His creation, and He spent a lot of time with Adam and Eve in the garden. It was a time of ultimate peace and joy for everyone.

But an angry devil was lurking in the shadows outside the garden, waiting to enter and destroy it. His name was Lucifer, and he was one of God’s angels, exceptionally gifted in musical talent and arrayed in beauty. And one day he decided that he wanted to be God. He wanted to rule over Heaven and over all the other angels, but his rebellion was caught at the onset, and he was cast out of Heaven and into the heavens, which we know as the universe. Then Lucifer’s name was changed to Satan, the devil, and in his anger and with a vengeance, Satan swore that he would take God’s world from Him and become king over it.

So, he possessed the body of a serpent and slithered into the garden and deceived Eve into eating the fruit. She then took some of the fruit to Adam, and although he knew it was wrong, he ate it. The devil got Eve to defy God by deceiving her, but it was through Adam’s disobedience to God that sin was brought upon him and upon all mankind after that.

God was angry, but He was also saddened because He could no longer be with Adam and Eve, His two children that He loved. God is Holy, and sin cannot exist in His presence; it will be instantly destroyed. So He had to withdraw His presence from them. Their hearts were no longer pure; they were tainted by the sin they had committed. Satan had got them to disobey God, and now the devil ruled over them because God could no longer live in them.

But this was God’s world, and He wasn’t giving it up. He warned Satan that He would send someone to destroy him and redeem His children. And so Adam and Eve clung to this promise, and they looked for this Savior every day of their lives, but He didn’t come during their lifetime.

Adam and Eve were put out of the garden and into a world that required their own hard work to survive. The soil for planting demanded their endless labor just to get it to produce enough food to eat. Unpleasant weather conditions and storms ravished their land, and the animals were no longer friendly; many were to be feared. Things no longer came easily to them. They had to work very hard for everything in their lives. Even their own children became cruel and filled with every kind of sin, totally refuting the holiness of God. Every day, the depth of sin spread throughout the land more and more, and those who loved and followed God became
