Profitable New T Shirt Printing Business - Lee Lister
What Kind Of T Shirt Business Do You Want To Run?
The T shirt printing business is very competitive so you need to have your own niche. Whether it is the selection of your shirts, your designs, your services or who you sell to you MUST find your niche quickly.
There are two key things you need to look at and these are Subject Area and Target Audience.
Subject Area and Theme
Some subjects and themes do better than others and if you decide to do too many of them then your business will look unfocussed and unstructured. So, it is important to choose your subject area and theme very quickly. It also makes it so much easier to promote your business if you can say Xeon for Fantasy T Shirts
for example.
Look at one key theme or subject area and then look at adding complimentary themes or subjects as you get asked or you wish to expand. Choosing a theme that particularly interests you is a good way to start. Some possible themes might be:
Fantasy
Groups and bands
Sports
Animals and pets
You might also look at your company specializing in the following kind of themes:
Family or children
Digital photos
Hen nights and stag nights
Club
Sport
Uniforms
Target Audience
Now you need to decide who you are targeting. That is what age group, income level and geographic area. This will help you with your marketing so that you do not market or advertise where your potential buyers are not situated.
Of course, your themes and designs will need to be compatible with your target audience.
Research
Now you will need to undertake your research. You will need to be able to find enough designs to ensure that you have enough of them for a good, attractive and varied range.
You will also need to undertake similar research to ensure that you can also find the appropriate T shirts, fleeces etc.
If you want your T shirts to be topical, you might also like to keep an eye on the news and different trends.
Designs
You must be careful when seeking out designs that you only use royalty free images. This means that Mickey Mouse is out, as is any image your find on the internet. There are many sites that provide royalty free images for an annual or per image fee. Of course you can also use your own designs, sites such as Canva enable you to make them quite easily. In fact they have a lot of t shirt templates for you.
Ways To Print Your T shirts
There are a number of ways to print T shirts, here are the most common.
Heat Transfer Equipment
One of the most popular methods of transferring your design onto your T Shirt is with the use of a heat transfer machine. These are very cost effective and enable you to print from your computer very quickly. You can also use them for small orders or even one of a kind printing like a child’s picture onto a T shirt. If you want to offer T shirt printing from a stall of van, these are the machine to choose.
The heat transfer printer actually looks like a large sandwich toasting machine that you put the T shirt into. The design is transferred onto a special printing paper from your computer and then pressed
onto the T shirt.
If you get into larger orders there are larger drum version heat transfer machines.
At the very start of your business, you can simply use a domestic iron to press the design onto the T shirt. This is time consuming as you get busy gest far too slow for your production. It is important when pressing your image onto the T shirt that you do not use the steam option, otherwise your will have runny ink on your
