I would never have written this book without the constant support of my husband Nick. Thank you for always believing in me and giving me the time to create. I love you.

My kids, Matthew, Lucy and Dominic, thank you for always being my guinea pigs and trying the many different test runs of everything that I cook.

Lucy, my partner in crime, I wouldn’t have done this if it weren’t for you. I wanted you to have an easier time growing up with Celiac disease. You inspired me to learn as much as possible.

To my parents, Jim and Cathy, my in-laws, Jim and Diane, my sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Joe and my sister, Kim and her husband Patrick. Thank you for always making sure that we are always safe when we eat at your homes and for putting up with this crazy lifestyle.

You’ve been diagnosed with Celiac disease, or you have a gluten intolerance. Whatever your reason is for choosing to read this book, stop and take a breath. And if you’ve been crying, you can stop now. I know the feeling, I’ve been there. You feel like you can never go out again, that you can’t enjoy life the way you planned. You think food is going to be awful tasting forever. The overwhelming feeling of what do I do now? is crippling at first. And, while life is going to be a bit more difficult, it is not going to be tasteless or hopeless. This book can and will ease your way into your new gluten free lifestyle. It’ll even help you save money.

Spending money on food and ingredients that you don’t know will taste good gets expensive. The number of meals or premade gluten free food you end up throwing out, because you can’t even get it past your tongue, is just another kick to the gut we will have to face living life gluten free. I am going to share with you some really great tips on how to navigate during this time in your life. Once you see how, you’ll be able to take these tools and apply them in your own way. Then you can use this book as a door stop.

I used Google a lot when I was first diagnosed (and still do) and came across countless books and websites that all said the same things. First the long-drawn-out definition of Celiac Disease, what it is and what it does. Then they all say to stay on a strict gluten free diet. Ok, that’s great. But how? Where do I start? Someone please give me a shopping list!

It’s been almost 5 years now and I thought I would put together some of the most valuable information and tips that I’ve learned and implemented. I wanted to try to help that person who just hung up the phone with their doctor and has no idea where to start. I am not a doctor by any means. I am just a woman, a wife and a mother who has had to learn a new lifestyle, and if I can help make others transition just a little easier, so that they are not drowning in questions and fear, I’ll feel like I’m doing good in the world.
