    Dedication

I dedicate this book to my grandfather, Clark Pop Pop Hays. This amazing God-fearing man went to Heaven a few years back. He was a preacher, farmer, and dedicated family man.

He found Jesus in a culvert where he laid helplessly after falling in to save a young calf. He was not sober that day, but after the Lord told him to change his ways he became a new man.

Prayer was always on the fruit of his lips. He talked to God about everything, asking the Good Lord to save and protect his family. Holidays brought the Hays clan together, and Pop Pop would lead us in prayer as we held hands. There was never a dry eye when we were led to talk to Jesus.

Thank you, Pop Pop Clark, for teaching me to pray!

    Preface

    Personal Prayer Journal

Journal Entry 1. When I was contemplating writing Propelled, it dawned on me that to write this book, prayer was the necessary component for the words I was to pen.

On a cool spring day, I began with prayer, Lord, help me write your words, what do you want to say to those who will read this book?

Seek Me was whispered into my spirit. That was the beginning I needed. When we seek the Lord, we find Him. But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul (Deut. 4:29, NIV).

The journey of this book will include my seeking time with the Lord before I type a single letter. The adventure awaits!

Journal Entry 2. Prayer begins with coffee, porch-sitting, and birds singing. Prayer begins with opening the Bible (reading it, of course), worship music, and baby snuggles. This is my prayer life.

But it does not end there.

I pray throughout the day. When I feel my heart get anxious, I pray for peace and for me to trust the Lord. When my children leave the house, I pray. When I drive, I pray. I am so glad God is God; otherwise, he might get annoyed with my voice. But he eagerly awaits to hear me talk to Him. He eagerly waits for you to talk to Him. Love ignites my voice to his reception of my words, and a sweet aroma enters His throne room. Each one had a harp, and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people (Rev. 5:8, NIV).

Journal Entry 3. As I begin to write today. I feel the Lord calling me to do something else. That’s how it happens sometimes. You have a plan and God directs you on another path, even if it disrupts your attention for a few minutes. My plan was to pray and write. I feel in my heart I am supposed to watch something.

God knows. He is my best guide. God is so good.

I believe God directed me to watch a Sid Roth episode. The guest’s message was for people to have the faith to pray. We need faith to know that God hears us and loves to act on our behalf.

In the Scriptures of Mark, a desperate father seeking healing for his son asked Jesus if he could show pity on his son. Jesus questioned the man, If you can? said Jesus. Everything is possible for one who believes.

The father replied, I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief! (Mk 9: 21-24, NIV).

Journal Entry 4. I began my prayer time with the Lord listening to the song Talking to Jesus by Maverick City Music and Elevation Worship. This song just dropped, and my husband, 18-year-old, and I were watching it on a social media channel. It was amazingly powerful! Just a simple song about talking to Jesus.

That’s what prayer is. In the purest form, we just share our hearts with Jesus. He is our friend. We just need to talk to Him, he’s always listening.

I heard our prayers are stumped sometimes. But how can they be when Jesus said,It is finished when he hung on the cross? Our prayers are always heard.

So, talk to Him. Spill your guts. Rest, rejoice, request, and receive from your faithful, forgiving, loving, listening friend. He hears every word!

Journal Entry 5. At this moment, I am praying for all that read this book. If you do not get further than these last few words, I am praying for you. May you walk in total freedom to express yourself to a loving Father, forever friend, and be comforted by His presence. May you know Him.

Lord, ignite the reader of these words in power to receive all that you have for them. Protect, love, guide, and give them peace. May their broken hearts be mended, and relationships be restored. May they trust in you and know your love for them, dear God. Lord, let them see you, the real You! Let them hear You. Let them know your touch, kind and loving arms holding them up. Today is a new day. For those who don’t know you, may they receive your ultimate forgiveness and choose you as Lord as their life, believing that you died and rose for them. Let all who read this, call you friend!

Journal Entry 6. I remind you that I begin with prayer each time I write in this book. I must practice what I preach. What good would be my words if I did not abide by them? Our purest and utmost example is how prayer is conveyed in the Bible. I will touch upon some of these nuggets of wisdom; however, I encourage you to research the Scriptures yourself on the subject. The beauty of present-day technology allows someone to research the Bible and other Spiritual matters easily. Typing a key word like prayer can have Scripture, different versions, Hebrew and Greek, and other pertinent information available at the stroke of a keyboard.

Journal Entry 7. The lyrics of Talking to Jesus from Old Church Basement is playing in my ear. I love this song and how it encourages the listener to talk to Jesus like a friend. Last night, I was sharing with my eldest son to talk to Jesus. There are no magic words, just your voice crying out to Him. Let Him know your wants, desires, your needs, your desperations. He is listening.

Journal Entry 8. Prayer is listening. God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer (Mother Teresa).

Journal Entry 9. My heart and brain are racing.

I call on the Lord Jesus:

In the midst of my turmoil

    I seek You.

As my thoughts roar through my mind

    I hear You

As I listen and quiet my soul

    I feel you.

My soul longs for You, fill me with your Presence, may all who I am rest in You.

Journal Entry 10. Again, as I begin to write while listening to music, Talking to Jesus randomly comes on. Is it random? I have found my life often has coincidences. But I know, some of these occurrences are not random. Rather, they are God ordained. I believe He’s reminding me to talk to Him and encourage others to do the same. I am at the point of this book of proofreading and editing.

All comes down to this… as we pray, we connect with the One who created us, reaching out to commune with us. Yes, prayer propels supernatural action! But most importantly, there is a connection with God that no one can take away from you. Dear brothers and sisters: pray today, pray always, just talk to Him.

    He hears you.

Thank you for taking this personal journey with me. I only journaled a few times in the writing of the book. However, I prayed continuously. My mission for this manuscript is to encourage readers to begin and keep a prayer life. It’s the one thing we can do that will mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually sustain us. As we dialogue with the Almighty, God intervenes
