    chapter 1

    Know How

    The dearth of Muhurtha mentioned often in modern Panchanga has proper science behind it. A few avoidable months like Adhika or Kashya masa that dodges muhurtha. Frequent Moudhya of Venus that coincides these months and at times concurrently occurring Jupiter combustion might farther away the chance of muhurtha. In general, they combust in different periods. Unfortunately, in either case the Panchanga deprives the muhurtha for both reasons though they are having different matters for muhurtha and their combust is to be considered individually. Despite exemptions sometimes the Shoonya masa is also included to avoid Muhurtha. With proper judgment several muhurtha can be included in a year.

Therefore, similarity or compatibility of Nakshatra is a process. This Processes is called Tara Bala to link favorably of the stars between Native and the Day in question. The Moon position in a Nakshatra, the Lagna posited in a Nakshatra, the Muhurtha representing a Nakshatra or the Naadika representing a Nakshatra are all important components of Nakshatra. With this multiple nakshatra representations it becomes the essential task to link a desired day to a person.

    A time Kundali is Muhurtha

    It is only the Gochara graph (transit) outline to the minutest time division of 48 minutes and effectively adjusted in Naadika of 24 Minutes. Insightfully the muhurthakaras (creators of Muhurtha) have delegated matter requiring muhurta to speak through Lagna.

    The Mind is a Must

    सौंदर्यकान्यदि मुखा गुणाश्च नासाविहीनस्य भवन्त्य साराः।

    This shloka tells about the prime importnce of the Thithi in Muhurtha.

    2अ. तिथे: पञ्‌छा दशोभागः क्रमात्‌ तिथिपादितः

    क्षणसंज्ञा तदर्धानि ता सामर्थ प्रमाणातः ॥

    2ब.तिथेः पंचदशो भागः क्रमात्प्रतिपदादयः

    द्विघटिप्रमितं तत्र मुहूर्त कथितं बुधैः ॥

    These shloka permits the division of each thithi into Micro divisions. (Logicaly they can be a support to Thithi or it can be alternative if necessiates on the day of Muhurtha. (can even ward of any dosha of Chidra, or Rikta dagda etc).

    3.वारादोषाश्च ये प्रोक्ताः रात्रौ न्‌ प्रभवंति तेः ।

    शनिभौमार्कवारेषु विशेषादिति केचन ॥

    After Sunset the none of the Dosha of Vara exists

    4.वारं प्रोक्तं कालाहोरासुतस्यधिष्ण्ये प्रोक्तंस्वामितिध्यंशके २स्यः ।

    कुर्याद्धिश्शूलाधिचितंत्यं क्षणेषुनैवोल्लंघ्यः पारिघुश्चापिदंडः ॥

    यस्मिन्नक्षत्रेतु यत्कर्मनिखिलं कथितंचयत्द्य

    तद्देवत्ये तन्मूहूर्ते कार्य यात्रादिकं तथा ॥ mc ॥

    In this Shloka If the Vara prescribed is not suitable then any suitable Hora on that day can be selected. Similarly, if the days Nakshatra is not auspicious or if it has no Tarabala then any of the suitable Muhurtha Nakshatra out of 30 Muhurtha or any of 60 Naadika representing Nakshatra can be used for both as Nakshatra and for linking Tarabala.

    5.योगस्य सप्तविंशांशो योगमानं भवेदिति ।

    एकस्मीन्नपि योगेपिसर्वयोगा भवन्तिहि ॥ v.s ॥

    The 27 Nitya yoga has also Micro Yogas of 27 to each of this Yoga. Therefore, the option to select right yoga in the absence of favorable yoga of the Day or it can be used for fine tuning of a particular yoga with supporting good micro division.

    Note: The micro divisions of Nakshtra, Vara, Thithi and Nitya yoga can effectively be used to form different yogas at the selected Muhurtha

    Lagna

    6.देवेज्यः पूर्ण शुभद श्शुखो पातत्रय श्शुभः

    पूर्णचंद्र गुरोस्तुल्य शुक्रतुल्यो त्रिपात्शशिः

    बुधतुल्यार्ध चंद्रस्यात्‌ क्षीणश्चेत्पाशोभनः

    The "Devajya" indicating Deva Guru as Jupiter who is 100% beneficial and Paksha guna bala Chandra is equal to Guru. and It says the Rakshasa Guru is Venus and 75% benefic (this means in his good ness there shall be element of Papa or suffering) This is again represented by 3/4 of full Moon. Then 1/2 Moon is equated with Mercury who is another Guru.

    Therefore, Jupiter, Moon, Venus, Mercury all are Gurus. In this Moon takes up the roles of all the three gurus by his Paksha Guna Bala. Less than Half he does not take up the roll of Guru. Then he takes up the role of Krura.

    1. Swachhanda Guru = Independent nature, = Chandra, 2. Deva Guru Heavenly Guru = Brihaspati, 3. Asura (Supreme spirit) Guru = Shukra charya, 4. Sumathi (Intellect) Guru = Budha. - All are gurus.

    In this if Muhurtha Lagna is of Guru Group: The Jupiter Leads as Guru to them and his strength is essential as he owns either Shubha or Ati Shubha houses. Dhanus, Meena, Mesha, Vrischika, Karkataka, Simha if chosen as Muhurtha - Guru should be strong. He should not be combusted. For these Lagna muhurtha the Venus is being an opponent, it hardly matters about his weakness or combustion.

    Similarly, for Muhurtha Lagnas of Venus Group: That is Vrishabha, Mituna, Kanya, Tula, Makara, and Kumbha Lagnas the Guru is Rakshasa Guru Venus who should be strong. His combustion, His Debilitation and weakness to be avoided.

    For these Lagna the Jupiter is an opponent therefore his weakness does not matter much. Mercury is dual natured Guru, who has link to Jupiter group Lagna due to his foster father Deva guru whom he treats as equal.

    On the contrary since Jupiter treats Mercury as Enemy, the Venus as Rakshasa guru bestows blessing on Mercury. Thus, Mercury participates in both group as a reconciling Guru.

    Moon also has the quality of changing his position of Deva Guru, Rakshasa Guru and even the reconciling Guru by his Paksha Guna Bala (Paksha means the taking a side).

    That is why Moon Most Important in Muhurtha.

    Now let me complete the Shloka:

    कुज (Mars) स्त्रीपाद पापस्या (Mars is ¾ Papi) त्पूर्ण पाप शनि (Sat) ध्वजौ (Ketu) (Full Papi are Saturn and Ketu) त्रिपद पाप क्षीनेंदु (Less than half Moon turns ¾ Papi) र्धिननाधो (Sun) र्ध पापदः (Sun becomes ½ Papi) पापयुक्त बुधः (papa associated Budha is full Papi) पूर्ण पापस्यादिति निश्चय: ॥

    Mars is 3/4 Papi, Saturn and Ketu are full Papi, less than Half Moon behaves like 3/4 Papi, Sun acts like half Papi. Mercury associated with Papi turns full Papi.

    Note : The Sun is not a Papi in muhurtha as he is the main source of Nature of Chandra when stands at 180 degrees. If his rays turn Moon as utmost Soumya as Poorna Chandra, how we set aside Sun as cruel. Yes, the closeness causes combust of planets and Moon becomes invisible. This is to be understood before declaring the Sun as cruel.

    Since he is the Spirit and Atma Karka, the last rites and death rituals like Tarpana and Shraddha is assigned to his week day and his powerful day Amavasya. He is a strict planet being the Governor of the entire planetary cabinet. Since he is Atma Karka he is not supportive to any relational bondage. Therefore, for Relational bondage matters he should be kept aloof. Rest for all recognition status and success and health matters he should be considered as absolute Shubha. This applies in Muhurtha and also in Phala Jyotisha.

    Since Moon and Mercury are designatory of title of Gurus their influence on the Muhurtha Lagna is very much important. In Muhurtha Mars, Saturn are considered as Papi. Two Tamasa Graha Rahu and Ketu are also joining the list of Papi.

    With this authentication, the logic is applied to explore the opportunities available for selecting an auspicious time for an event. The decorum and the spirit of the classical texts are kept intact and no self-ordained maxims are entertained.

    7.There are no clear indication of Rahu and Ketu aspect. But they have the 5th and 9th Aachhadana (cover or eclipse). Rahu is like opposite of Soumya Guru and Ketu is opposite of Soumya Shukra. They both act extremely with the different qualities of Mercury when they cast their Aachhadana on Mercury.

    8.Moon and Lagna Strengths are utmost importance.

    9.The word Paksha bala is misinterpreted as strength of Moon. Moon in Shukla or Krishna Paksha does not indicate strength or weakness. It denotes the quantum of his kindness or cruelty. (higher percentage of cruelty results the nature of event, but it does not prevent or spoil the event. If Moon is strong despite his quality, will ward of many evils in the Muhurtha chart. Not deviate and get confused with traditional usage of word BalaI will just replace with Paksha Guna Bala".

    10.In considering Muhurtha Kundali, the planets are grouped as under:

    a.Samaya Anga Graha i.e., Sun and Moon.

    b.Shubha graha = Jupiter, Venus, Mercury

    c.Papa graha –Saturn and Mars

    d.Tamasa graha –Rahu and Ketu

    (See Lagna chapter for Further explanation)

    A table showing the above grouping with their friends and enmity is given bellow:

    Note: - Please remember this as this shall not be repeated. It should strike to you wherever you read Upachaya.

    In this statement there are other information about the planetary friendship, Equality and enmity. This is a best tool to substitute the inconsistent method of Upachaya stana which has material satisfaction but destruction of other side of life.

    The Evil planets in Muhurtha are Mars Saturn Rahu and Ketu. Mars belongs to Jupiter group and Saturn belongs to Venus group. Therefore in each other’s house they become weak.

    Rahu belongs to Venus group; Ketu belongs to Jupiter’s group. Mars is weak with Rahu and Saturn is weak with Ketu.

    Mars if aspects Rahu or in trine to Rahu will become weak. Saturn if aspects Ketu or in trine to Ketu will be weak.

    Rahu is weak in Sun, Moo houses because he cannot over rule their origin. Similarly, Ketu.

    Sun is weak in Saturn house. Sun is weak with Rahu. Moon is weak with Ketu. Mutual aspect between Saturn and Sun, Saturn and Mars will make both weak.

    Sun, Saturn, Mars if they are debilitated in whatever percentage (they should be in the degrees of debilitation. Debilitation is from 1 degree to 10 degrees, Mars is from 3:20 to 28 degrees. Saturn debilitation from 10 degrees to 20 degrees).

    If Saturn within 15 degrees and Mars 17 degrees on either side of Sun will be combust and that renders them weak resulting in strong Muhurtha.

    Moon cannot be treated as cruel in Muhurtha – His Paksha Guna will have some negativity or dissatisfaction in experiencing the event but does not harm unless he is ill placed.

    While using the selective Upachaya stana the above said points of cruel planet that reduces their cruel nature will have more impact in strengthening the Muhurtha Lagna. Whenever the Upachaya is mentioned simultaneously refer to this chapter.

    a.Prithvi (6 minutes)

    b.Jala (12 Minutes)

    c.Agni (18 Minutes)

    d.Vayu (24 Minutes)

    e.Akasha (30 minutes)

    These though need not be a part within the Naadika as no reference in classicals, but has its influence on the matters with further division of time in a different structure. It is because of this reason, I made it as different limb of direct Muhurtha.

    From Thithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Karna, Yoga –becomes one set of Panchanga for selection of a day.

    Rest that is Lagna of 2 hours, Hora of 1 hours, 48 Minutes of Muhurtha, 24 minutes of Naadika ruling at that time and if considered the power of muhurtha by Tatwa, all are to decide the right time on that right day. This is called Dashanga yukta –Muhurtha.

    These are the intergalactic time predefined with either good or bad energies that support or destruct the desired activities.

    In the event of fortunate or unfortunate ruling time of the native, if any event need be commenced, it is essential to match the activities, that strikes right chord with that beneficial span decided by the Cosmic energy.

    If fortunate, the right selection of time will doubly enhance the benefits and If Unfortunate, the same selected time will destruct the event. The key is Dasha Bhukti Antra from Phala Jyotisha.

    Concept of Muhurtha

    A person very much settled with extravagances like Bungalows, resorts, cabins, and a few latest luxury vehicles and having numerous drivers and workers on the off chance if he intends to go to any Pilgrim, he can choose the best vehicle from his carport and picked the desired driver and helpers to travel.     In both cases selection of time of travel is important, one to enjoy the fortune granted to first person and 2nd to enjoy the purpose of journey despite not having the fortune in his birth Kundali.

    To summarise, every event right from birth, are all ruled by the good energies and bad energies that are predominant every unit of time for the 24 hours. (the science and philosophy of intergalactic time is a voluminous and the space does not permit to discuss here). The selection of right time that releases the positive energies is the ultimately goal of Muhurtha.

    It doesn’t change or fix the destiny. In any case, the experience of an occasion gets positive support, if time of starting an activity is perfectly chosen.

    Gist of Shloka : Sun, Saturn, Mars, decreasing Moon, Rahu and Ketu are Krura and associated with these planets Mercury also becomes Krura. (Cruel)

    Rest all the planets –are Soumya (Kind)

    But the translation is Among these the Sun, Saturn, Mars, decreasing Moon, Rahu and Ketu (the ascending and descending nodes of Moon) are malefic while the rest are benefic. Mercury, however is a malefic if he is joins a malefic)This has misled the fundamentals.

    Parasara is clear in classication. Planets that are grahas are classified by their nature Soumya and Krura. Lords are classified as Ati Shubha, Shubha, Papa Ati papa. With missing clarity on this classification, at the higher studies of Jyotisha, the confusion gets confounded. This has led to constructions of indoctrinated combinations quoting doctored examples.

    The translation and later date authorships have muddled with these words and mixed-up Shubha papa even to Graha (planets). This is evident in the muhurtha books and translated Jyotisha books. Modern astrology books have indiscriminately induced many vocabularies leading to systematic onslaught of classicals in their original format. Evidently the substitute for Varga Kundali as Divisional chart yet short cut as D charts, transporting the sign dignities of 360 degrees to illogical geometrical impossibilities in Varga, ignoring the sanctity of interchanging Varga guna of grahas.

    The Varga Jyotisha is a science that is a high-power microscopic tool. All the activity and dignity of the planet must be seen in birth chart using the transitional changes in position that occurs in Amsha. The dispositer of a planet in Amsha lord plays vital role in Birth Chart. In this aspect Muhurtha is clear in assessing Shadvarga strength.

    For Muhurtha, the planets need a different grouping.

    1.Mars and Saturn = Krura (Cruel) graha can be attributed as Atipapa Most malefic.

    2.Lagna and Chandra (Moon) = (samaya soochaka) Time personified.

    3.Guru Group : Guru (Jupiter), Ravi (Surya).

    (Mars though same group is in a Krura group), Moon Chandra has become a time component.

    4.Venus group : Shukra (Venus)= Soumya, Budha (Mercury) Soumya, Shani (Saturn) has already in the first group Atipapa.

    5.Rahu and Ketu are Tamo grahas and they behave like the planet with which they are associated. They also capture the house where they occupy. Hence the sign lord occupied by them will also have the qualities of Rahu or Ketu as the case may be.

    Therefore, in an overall effect in Muhurtha –Shubha stana or Shubha graha means only Jupiter, (Ravi in specific cases) Venus, and Mercury. [पापयुतः चंद्रसुतश्च पापः(Mercury with Krura becomes Krura) This dictum apply only for Jyotisha in Bhava Analysis. But in Muhurtha Mercury is always Soumya.]

    Their signs and Navamsha signs are favoured. Muhurtha Lagna and planets in these Navamsha (treat Lagna longitude also as a planet) are deemed to be in good Navamsha. (nine planets + Lagna)

    B.Hora for the week day –Approximately lasts an hour within Lagna (Hardly taken note of now a days)

    C.Muhurtha –It is a crucial 48 Minutes of auspicious time to be selected.

    D.Naadika: The two division of Muhurtha 24 minutes each. This is highly ranked by Sage Bhargava as supreme catalyst that triggers either effective or evil of the event. (totally neglected by priestly class fixing muhurtha)

    E.Lastly –This is a temporary and quick heal method –to overcome the exhaustive labour in selecting Muhurtha and can be used for quick fix method. (Not for major matters) This is Pancha Bhoota Tatwa that runs in to 6 minutes of Prithvi Tatwa commences on Wednesday, 12, minutes of Jala Tatwa on Monday/Friday, 18 minutes of Agni Tatwa on Sunday/Tuesday, 24 minutes Vayu Tatwa on Saturday, 30 minutes Akasha Tatwa on Thursday. (but it has its essence if noted the right Tatwa at the time of Muhurtha, if Naadika has the powerful effect, the very fabric of creation should definitely have incredible essence)

    In the event of one failure designated nakshatra the other 3 options are open to fit in favourable Tarabala. All these nakshatra equally participating in Muhurtha for favourability logically they qualify to be as optional nakshatra to fit in link the individual to Muhurtha chart for a favourable Tara bala.

    While consciously we permit for such an alternative and settles down for micro division of nakshatra, what prevents to identify some of the nakshatras that ruled the native at the time of his Birth. Native’s birth details are nothing but a Muhurtha chart of the entry of native in to this world.

    1.He is born on a Nakshatra day.

    2.He is Born in a Lagna that resides in a Nakshatra

    3.On that day he is born in a particular Muhurtha Nakshatra,

    4.At the micro level he is born in a Naadika Nakshatra. All these nakshatra belongs to him. If Rishis have sanctioned these micro level considerations for a muhurtha day, obviously it is logically applicable to the native too.
