It is my profound privilege to present before the esteemed readers the English translation of the most inspiring and enlightening ancient classic Maansagari which was composed by Janardan Harji, the son of a head priest from Gujarat who was a devout scholar of Vedic Sastras and was known for his great virtues.

Maansagari Paddhiti as the textual nomenclature suggests is the unique system of delineating horoscopes. It is a complete text explaining the use of many Yogas, different Dasa systems, transits as such and various Chakras. There is no other text that deals with all these lesser known tools of astrological prognostication namely Vargas, Dasas and Chakras. In this translation, all possible cross-references are cited to present the views of other writers as well as an explanation of the principles through examples and horoscopes that have been presented, for use by the students and scholars.

    Panchmahapurusha Yogas

    ये महापुरुषसंज्ञकाः शुभाः पञ्च पूर्वमुनिभिः प्रकीर्तिता

    वच्मि तान्सरलनिर्मलोत्तिभिः राजयोगविधिदर्शनेच्छया ॥

    The auspicious effects of Panchmahapurusha Yogas as expounded by my preceding sages (savants of astrology-Munies ), the same Raja Yogas are being described by me in delectable verses and in a lucid and propitious manner.

    The Panchmahapurusha Yoga:

    स्वगेहतुड्​गश्रयकेन्द्रसंस्थैरुच्चोपगैर्वावनिसूनुमुख्यैः

    क्रमेण योगा रुचकाख्यभद्रहंसाख्यमालव्यशशाभिधानाः ॥

    At the time of birth, if Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn severally occupies its own or exaltation sign corresponding to quadrant position in a chart, it will give rise to Ruchaka, Bhadra, Hamsa Malavya and Sasa Yogas respectively.

    Notes: The literal meaning of Yoga is the combination of two or more planets or any specific mutual disposition between the two or more planets. But Panchmahapurusha creates a genre of typical Yogas formed out of a single non-luminary planet which technically is not in the ambit of Yogas format per se. However, all the classical texts have defined these Yogas as such and we accept their prevalence on the premises that these unique placements of the planets give rise to a situation, potentially of conferring high quality of benefic effects and thus these Yogas become sacrosanct.

    Varaha Mihira propounded the concept of these five Yogas in chapter 69 of Brihat Samhita and brought them in the ambit of great Yogas with the distinctive phraseology of Panchmahapurusha Yogas capable of producing five kinds of outstanding persons. As contained in the above verse, these Yogas get activated when any of the five planets from Mars to Saturn (excluding the luminaries and soli-lunar nodes) is posited in a quadrant house duly identical with its own sign (Swagrahi) or its sign of exaltation (Uchcha).

    It is a well established fact that though one or more than one Panchmahapurusha Yogas are available in numerous horoscopes, all such natives do not get results as denoted in the scriptures. Most of these natives possess ordinary personalities and lead unnoticeable lives. Therefore, it would be prudent to declare the effects of such Yogas after making a due assessment of the strengths as well as good or bad influences those are exerted over the planets involved. Shada Bala i.e. Six-fold measurements of the strength are the subtle method of ascertaining planetary strength. All the five planets have distinctive and unique significations and their natural qualities will abound the stated benefic effects when they are dignified and favourably placed in the nativity.

    Panchmahapurusha Yogas are qualified by a condition that if the Sun and the Moon conjoin the Yoga producing planet, it will not manifest the intended results, though they might give some favourable results during their effective Dasas. Nonetheless, the auspiciousness of Yoga will somewhat be lost.

    Should the concerned planets stay away from the luminaries, the respective Yoga will get fructified fully subject to other influences caused to the said planets and the native will experience the effect throughout his life, of course, in a variable magnitude. An unblemished Yoga will have full manifestation while negative interferences of the other planets, will alter the results.

    Leaned Mantreswara in Phaladeepika opined that if these five non-luminous planets have similar placements with reference to the Moon Ascendant, it will also produce identical auspicious results. The author further intended that the methodology of interpretation of Yogas adopted in the case of birth Ascendant, the same delineation procedure be followed while analysing the effects of the Yogas through the Moon Ascendant. Mantreswara also presented some add-on effects; in the event of more than one such Yogas are available in a birth chart. While dwelling on this theory, he elaborated that if one of these five Raja Yogas exists, the native will be fortunate; if two planets have such Yogas, the concerned person will have a royal status; if three planets get involved, he will be a King; if four such planets form four such Yogas, the native will hold supreme authority and should all the five Yogas are available, the native will be King of the Kings and will hold apex power in any gigantic set-up either in private or government or even be the head of a kingdom. However, so many Yogas will be practically not possible to exist, if these are just confined to birth Ascendant alone. But the involvement of the Moon Ascendant will help creating such a coveted situation, as displayed in the appended, illustration.

    In this chart, while Ruchaka, Sasa and Malavya Yogas are shown to have been formed by virtue of being in their own sign and duly located in the quadrant houses from the Ascendant, the remaining two Yogas viz, Bhadra and Hamsa Yogas could be reckoned from the Moon Ascendant where Mercury is placed in the 7th house and Jupiter is in the 4th house.

    It is a settled fact that the Panchmahapurusha Yogas become efficacious only when relative planets are unqualifiedly powerful and untainted because these Yogas have the propensity to give rise to great men. As stated earlier, it is absolutely rare to come across a fully fructified and unblemished Yoga. These Yogas do not get activated, if planets involved in the said Yogas become weak by their placements, aspects or conjunctions and hence, they will fail to deliver the stated results in true postulations. While dealing with each Yoga, an attempt is made to cite a few examples wherever possible. The readers will observe, that some of these Yogas have lower potency of deliverance.

    Effects of Ruchaka Yoga:

    दीर्घायुः स्वच्छकान्तिर्बहुरुधिरबलः साहसी चाप्तसिद्धि-

    श्​वारुभ्रू नीलकेशः समकरचरणो मन्त्रविच्वारुकीर्तिः ।

    रक्तः श्यामोऽतिशूरो रिपुबलमथनः कम्बुकण्ठो महौजाः

    क्रूरो भक्तो नराणां द्विजगुरुविनतः क्षामजानूरुजङ्घः ॥ 1 ॥

    A native born is the Ruchaka yoga, will have a long life, will be an essence of beauty, strong due to excess of blood, courageous, successful; will possess beautiful eyebrows, bluish hair (darkish) well formed hands and feet; will have knowledge of Vedic hymns and dark red complexion. He will be widely known, a conqueror of enemies and will have a voice like (sound of) conch. The native will be valorous, wicked, humble like a Brahmin and a teacher, compassionate towards people and will possess slender limbs above his feet and below the waist.

    खटङ्गपाशवृपकार्पुकचक्रवीणाविज्ञानङ्कहस्तचरणः

    सरलांगुलिः स्यात मन्त्राभिचारकुशलस्तुलयेत्सहस्रं

    मध्यं च तस्य गदितं मुखदैर्ध्यतुल्यम्​ ॥ 2 ॥

    A person born in Ruchaka Yoga, will possess line marks on his hands and feet, like, epithet and bull (Nandi) of lord Shiva, bow and Veena; will have straight and beautiful fingers; be adept in Mantras and Yantras (mystical lore); be one amongst thousand; be neither tall nor short (medium height) and will have a longish face.

    सह्यस्य विन्ध्यस्य तथोज्ष्थिन्याः प्रभुः शरत्सप्ततिरायुरस्मात्​

    शस्त्राग्निचिह्नो रुचकाभिधाने देवालयान्ते निधनं करोति ॥ 3 ॥

    One born in Ruchaka Yoga will be the ruler of the Sahyadari and Vindhyachal mountains and will be the king of the Ujjani area. He will be of 70 years of age with injury marks of weapon and burn spots on his body and who will leave the world (dies) at Devalaya (holy place).

    Notes: Ruchaka Yoga premised upon the preponderant influences of Mars on the nativity. The person concerned will be endowed with the unique significations of Mars: valourous, domineering and adventurous nature pervades in him and he would be exposed to physical hazards leading to injuries, etc. However, a powerful Mars will have the potential of delivering the effects to a great extent.

    Saravali’s Chapter 37 is devoted to Panchmahapurusha Yogas. The effects drawn over there for Ruchaka Yoga by and large conform to what has been covered in this stanza with the addition that the native will have a longer face, be a great fighter. He will rule over places, live upto seventy years and will meet his end by means of weapon or fire and will attain heaven after his death. Chapter VIII of Jataka Desamarga authored by learned Podumanai Chomadiri of Malabar covers the details with respect to these five great Yogas. The added feature of Ruchaka Yoga stated in this text is that the native will be endeared and acclaimed by the sovereign and will have a bilious disposition. He will be reckless and will get irritated easily. Phaladeepika in Chapter-6 supplements the effects by saying that the native will acquire wealth by means of intrepid and undaunted pursuits. He will have dominating disposition with a flavour of arrogance. However, Sage Parasara in Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra describes the native as fervent, refulgent but will be a polite person who will be the leader of swindlers. However, he will be devoted of Brahmins and will practice occultism.

    Besides these eminent classical works, there are other ancient texts which touched upon this subject, like Sambhu Hora Prakasha, Hora Ratnam, Hora Makarand etc. Further more Shloka 60 of Chapter III of Jataka Parijata contends that the native will have erudition in science, endowed with fine qualities and well versed with sacred hymns. It emphasized the fact that such a person will become a king or will acquire the status comparable to royalty and will command an army with a big fleet of soldiers. Akbar the great and mighty Hitler were conferred with these Yogas. (Refer Chart-6 and Chart 7 respectively).

    The following notable persons are endowed with Ruchaka Yogas in their nativity, which made the native a dominating person who enjoyed a kingly position. Late Queen Elizabeth, John Major, Ex-Prime Ministers of UK, Narsimha Rao Ex-Prime Minister of India to name a few.

    This horoscope holds several prominent Yogas. Mars is located in the Ascendant in exalted position, causing Ruchaka Yoga. Mars is the lord of the 4th and the 11th houses and unafflicted. Mars being in the 2nd house from the Moon gives rise to Sunapha Yoga as well. A person with these Yogas is very successful, widely known, self exerting and intelligent. The influences of Mars generate an elevated spirit, courage and wealth. A Vargottama (and hence strong) Ascendant took him to new heights and provided the kingly status of elevating him to the Prime Minister of a strong country like the U.K.

    Example: Queen Elizabeth; Female: Born on April 21, 1926; London (51 N 32; 00 W° 5)

    The above is the chart of Queen Elizabeth, who is known for her impeccable conduct and devotion to public duty. She is the richest person in England and is also ranked very high amongst the wealthiest people in the world. The 11th lord Mars is in the Ascendant duly exalted, and having an exchange with the 2nd (Dhanasthana) and the Ascendant lord. Mars is also in a quadrant house from the Moon also caused Ruchaka Yoga according to the savant Mantreswara.

    From the effects of this Yoga enshrined in various texts, one thing which prominently stands out is that such a native will be the conqueror of enemies, will have a strong liking for war (Saravali ), a reckless person (Jataka Deshmarga), will acquire wealth through undaunted pursuits (Phaladeepika ). An apt example conforming to these effects is the chart of Mohammad Ali.

    Mars is located in its own sign in the 10th house, giving rise to Ruchaka Yoga (even from the Moon). Mars is the planet of valour and is placed in a strong position and is favoruable for success through self-efforts. The 10th house makes the person an achiever in the real sense. If we look into the career pattern, we will find Mohammed Ali was the most ferocious boxer that the 20th Century has produced.

    Example: R.K. Hedge; Male: Born 29-8-1926 at 11:23 a.m.; at Latitude: 17 N 22; Longitude: 76 E 47.

    The other renowned personalities who held the Ruchaka Yogas are Sh. Rama Krishna Hedge ex-chief Minister of Karnataka and also a central cabinet minister. He was born with a Libra Ascendant with Mars in Aries is the 7th house. Further, a great economist and Noble laureate Amartya Sen also have Ruchaka Yoga from the Moon.

    Example: Adolf Hitler; Male: Born 20-4-1889; at 18-20 (LMT); Latitude: 48 N 00, Longitude: 13 E 02

    Adolf Hitler, who was yet another most fearless and spirited person with the intense fortitude of his time, has Ruchaka Yoga predominately formed in Aries sign in the 7th house accompanied by exalted Sun along with its nearest planets Mercury and Venus, also giving rise to Buddha Aditya Yoga making Hitler invincible with most irascible attitude (combination of the Sun and Mars). Since the attributing planet to this yoga is Martian sign Aries, his all planning and actions were carried out single-mindedly, focussed on his objective of grabbing the world power through war.

    Example: Emperor Akbar; Male: Born 4th December 1542 at Umrankot (Lat. 25N19 and Long. 69E47) at 3.39 a.m. (LMT).

    The native has Ruchaka Yoga, which is culminated with exalted Mars in the 4th house.

    This chart possesses three potent Mahapurusha Yogas Ruchaka, Sasa and Malavya Yogas. With Mars and Saturn duly exalted in the quadrangular houses, make the emperor a heroic and magnificent personality. Exalted Mars made him the most proficient commander who was reckless and daring, while Saturn endowed the support of the loyal public. The charm of Venus in the Ascendant gave rise to a fervent desire to create a united India.

    Effects of Bhadra Yoga:

    शार्दूलप्रतिमाननो द्विपगतिः पीनोरुवक्षःस्थलो

    रम्या पीनसुवृत्तबाहुयुगलस्तुत्तुल्यदेहोच्छ्रयः ।

    कामी कोमलसूक्ष्मरोमनिचयैः संरुद्धगण्डस्थलः

    प्राज्ञः पङ्​कजगर्भपाणिचरणः सत्त्वाधिकोयोगवित्​

    A person born in Bhadra Yoga will have a face like a lion and the gait of an elephant, will have a broad chest, stout body and his height will be equivalent to his stretched arms. He will be lustful and his head will be full of fine hair, is intelligent. His hands will be soft like lotus, will have Satvic qualities, knowledge of Yoga system and philosophy.

    शङ्खासिकुञ्जरगदाकुसुमेषु केतुचक्राब्जलाङ्​गलसुचिह्नितपाणिपादः

    यात्रागजेन्द्रमदवारिकृतार्द्रभूमिः सत्कुंकुमप्रतिमगन्धतनुः सुघोषः ॥ 2 ॥

    On born in Bhadra Yoga, will have marks like conch, sword, elephant, mace (club), flower, arrow, flag, Chakra (Circular mystic figure), lotus, plough etc., on his hand and feet. During traveling, he will trample the earth under his feet like a drunken elephant. His body will have the fragrance of fine Kumkuma (saffron) and will be endowed with a sweet voice.

    सम्भ्रूयुगोऽतिमतिमान्खलु शास्त्रवेत्ता

    मानोपभोगसहितोऽपि निगूढ़ागुह्यः

    सत्कुक्षि धर्मनिरतः सुललाटपट्​टो

    धीरो भवेदसितकुञ्चितकेशपाशः ॥ 3 ॥

    Both the eyebrows will be beautiful; he will be intelligent and well versed in Vedas. He will be highly acclaimed, given to carnal pleasures and a secretive person. He will have an impressive abdominal disposition, be religious, will have an attractive forehead, be well composed and will have soft curly hair.

    स्वतन्त्रः सर्वकार्येषु स्वजनं प्रति न क्षमाः

    भुज्यते विभवस्तस्य नित्यमर्थिजनैः परैः ॥ 4 ॥

    The native will undertake all work independently, will not pardon even his own people and will perpetually enjoy the wealth and assets of other people.

    भारं तुलायां तुलयेत्प्रयत्नैः श्रीकान्यकुब्जाधिपतिर्भवेत्सः

    भद्नोद्भवः पुत्रकलत्रसौख्यो जीवेन्नृपालः शरदामशीतिम्​ ॥ 5 ॥

    A person born in Bhadra Yoga will measure his wealth on a balance and will be the king of the Kanya Kubja area and after having enjoyed the pleasures of having a son and wife, will live upto 80 years.

    Notes: Mercury’s position in a quadrant house instead of Mars will give rise to Bhadra Yoga. This Yoga will come about only when the Ascendant is one of the dual signs. In other words, Mercury is incapable of producing this Yoga in any other Ascendant. Mercury signifies intellect and the manifestations of this Yoga will be characterised and have the essence of this denotation. Mercury, however, has to be powerful and dignified for one to experience its results and on the contrary, the effects will be a mere frivolity.

    Saravali holds identical views with the addition that the native will be firm in prowess, but will allow his associates to enjoy his wealth instead of pillaging other’s assets as averred in the above text. Phaladeepika’ s, extra views are that the native born in this Yoga possesses a sharp intellect, honest acclaimed, by learned persons, opulent and an impressive orator. He will have an unyielding mind so far as his own business is concerned, adds Jataka Deshmarga. It further says that he will be adept in expounding the sacred lore. According to Jataka Parijata, a person born under this Yoga will be a king who will be greatly responsive and ardently concerned about his brothers and a devout person. He will be widely known and a copiously rich person. Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra touches upon this Yoga in Chapter 77 and shares the views enshrined in the above Shloka except that the native will be inclined to apportion his extravagant indulgence and delights with his intimates and companions.

    The formation of Bhadra Yoga will be strong and most efficacious when Mercury is in its own or exalted sign in the Ascendant. Mercury is the only planet that gets exalted in its own sign viz. Virgo. The best example is that of late Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, former President of India, whose birth Chart is displayed hereafter.

    In Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga, Mercury displays a unique portrayal of the strength of its placement in the Gemini or Virgo sign identical to a cardinal house. This placement of Mercury touches upon the inner core of the individual which activates and conjoins with the physical life of a person to his inner being. By opening the passage to the spiritual intelligence (arousing intelligent quotient) of a person in his normal course or way of life will guide him to a sagacious refinement and make him a great and noble personality.

    Apart from Bhadra Yoga, there are two strong Raja Yogas in the chart. Jupiter alone in the Ascendant gives rise to Raja Yoga and the Saturn is being a Trine Lord is the Ascendant also produces an excellent Raja Yoga. It is during Jupiter’s Mahadasa (Aug. 1951 to Aug. 1967), he remained at the helm of the affairs of the country. He was appointed the first Vice President of Independent India (from 1952 to 1962) and then was the president of India from 1962 to 1967.

    The other important personality to hold the Bhadra Yoga is Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao, who has the Sun. Mercury and Mars in Gemini sign for the Yoga in the 10th house, as could be seen in the appended chart.

    The formation of Bhadra Yoga coupled with Budh Aditya Yoga in the 10th house made the native highly learned. Mr. Rao was well versed in many languages and both these Yogas falling in the 10th house have elevated him to the position of Prime Minister. However, as per the tenet, the association of luminaries will cause Yoga Bhanga. But the combination of both the powerful Yogas and the Sun and Mars getting directional strength in the 10th house resulted in making the native a great personality, but who faced many adversaries and passed through a most difficult and trying time during this priministership.

    Example: Swami Srila Prabhupada; Male: 01-9-1896; at 15-24 hrs (LMT); (Latitude: 22 N 32; Longitude: 88 E 22).

    Srila Prabhupada was the founder of the great movement called ISKCON or the Krishna cult. Exalted Mercury in the quadrant house gives rise to Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga, which made the native to acquire high standards of spirituality. Although Jupiter the Ascendant lord in the Dharmasthana (the 9th house) along with its dispositor, the Sun, supports his ascetic lifestyle, the formation of Mercury based Yoga in the 10th house (the Karmasthana), gives ample testimony of making a person to tread the path of divinity and excellence. He separated from his wife at the beginning of Mercury Dasa and gradually swayed towards renunciation.

    Bill Gates (Refer Chart 26) who was born on 28-10-1955 at 9.06 pm in Seattle, USA also has Bhadra Yoga is his 4th house in Virgo sign along with Mars. In addition to this, a profound Adi Yoga from the Moon anchors his horoscope and making him a towering opulent personality of the world. True to the merits classified by these Yogas, Bill Gates is blessed with plentiful of money, exuberant luxuries and yet a great philanthropist who is truly involved in humanitarian activities.

    Effects of Hamsa Yoga:

    रक्तास्योन्नतनासिकासुचरणो हंसप्रसन्नेन्द्नियो

    गौरः पीनकपोल रक्तकरजा हंसस्वनःश्लेष्मवान्​ ।

    शङ्खाब्जाङ्​कशमत्स्यदामयुगकैः खट्​वङ्​गमालघटै-

    श्वञ्चत्पादकरस्थलो मधुनिभे नेत्रे सुवृत्तंशिरः ॥ 1 ॥

    A person born in Hamsa Yoga will have a red face, lofty nose trail, beautiful feet, swan-like body, fair complexion, a wellrounded forehead, reddish nails, voice like a swan and will be phlegmatic in temperament. His feet and hands will bear the figure of conch, lotus, hooks (Ankusha ), fish, trident, a string of beads (rosary). He will possess honey coloured eyes and a robust physique.

    जलाशयप्रीतिरतीव कामी न याति तृप्तिं वनितास नूनम्​ ।

    उच्चः षडष्टांगुलमानयुक्तो देहस्तथास्यायुरिहास्ति षष्टिः ॥ 2 ॥

    He will roam aside water, highly lascivious and will never be satisfied with his wife. He will have a height of 60 Angulas and live upto sixty years.

    वाह्लीकदेशादर-शूरसेन-गन्धर्व-गङ्​ग-यमुनान्तरालान ।

    भुक्त्वा वनानते निधनंप्रयातिहंसोऽयमुक्तो मुनिभिः प्रमाणैः ॥ 3 ॥

    The native will live in Vahingika, Shurusen, Gandharva provinces and in between the countries (places) of Ganga and Yamuna and will finally leave his mortal body in a forest. These effects have been predicted by the ancient sages.

    Notes: The other astrological works have also dealt with this Yoga enumerating near about the same results. Parasara in Shalokas 13 to 16, Ch. 75 contends that this Yoga is favourable for all the auspicious affairs. The native will be endowed with a kingly appearance and he will rule places between Ganga and Yamuna. According to Jataka Deshmarga, the native will be a sagacious and happy person who will be honoured by the Royalty. He will display great regard towards his elders, Brahmins and God and will be widely known and will possess a benevolent disposition.

    According to Jataka Parijata, he will be inclined to acquire knowledge of the sacred scriptures. He will be a king who will be glorified by the wise people and will be fond of lavish and delectable food. These are the additional effects shown in Phaladeepika. Saravali supplements the results by saying that the native will be endowed with great virile power and will be very passionate and will enjoy cohabiting with women but yet will never be contented.

    While scanning through the horoscopes of some of the great personalities, it is observed that either the glorified artists and leaders or the eminent spiritual torch bearers of the country hold this Mahapurusha Yoga. Some of these horoscopes are illustrated over here.

    Example: Jayalalitha; Female: Born 24-02-1948; at 02-34 pm; Latitude: 13 N 04; Longitude, 80 E 15.

    Ms. Jayalalitha Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was the most celebrated cine star of South India.

    Both Hamsa and Malavya Mahapurusha Yogas are making the present chart so special. She captivated the hearts of the masses of her state. This refinement of the chart denotes the potential for many achievements, rare benevolence and sagacity of heart.

    The native is an illustrious spiritual leader of a very high Yogic order and Kriya Yoga. A paragon and epitome of fondness for God and devotion to the upliftment of humanity found full expression in his life. He spent much of his life abroad following his spiritual pursuits. He was intensely revered as a saint in his country. His book "autobiography of a Yogi " is reckoned as one of the finest works on a spiritual classic which has been translated into many languages.

    The Ascendant lord Jupiter is forming Hamsa Yoga in the 4th house and Jupiter is duly conjunct with the 5th lord Mars. The Sun and Mercury conjoining in the Ascendant give rise to Buddha Aditya and Dharma-Karma Yogas (being 9th and 10th lords). These Yogas indicate that the native was born in an affluent family and later on turning to spirituality. Jupiter-Mars (4th and 5th lords) gave the inclination for the teaching of Kriya Yoga, till his last breath.

    Exalted Jupiter in the Ascendant creates Hamsa yoga, giving the native birth in a princely family and later turning him into a great activist for the downtrodden and other social causes. He has a righteous disposition, is a great thinker and possesses a purity of mind. His chart also has Gajakesri Yoga, the Moon is being in the quadrant from Jupiter. Amala and Malika. Yogas also exist. Jupiter exalted in Cancer sign in the Ascendant endows high status and responsibility in life duly ingrained with great counseling propensity.

    As notified earlier, this Yoga from the Moon also becomes efficacious and making the native a great person. Nasuli Wadia (chart-79) and Ambitab Bachchan (chart-39) are the other examples that are discussed at the appropriate places in this book.

    Pt. Motilal Nehru, who was born on the 7th May 1861 (the day Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was born (chart-123), has Jupiter exalted in Cancer sign in the Ascendant giving rise to Hamsa Yoga. With the Sun and Mercury in the 10th house, making a strong Budh Aditya Yoga, turning him into a great personality who was an active participant in the founding meeting of Indian National Congress on the 28th December 1885. His philanthropic disposition is quite evident from the fact that he donated his palatial house Anand Bhavan and copious wealth to Congress. The combination of Cancer Ascendant with Jupiter in it and the Moon is being in Pisces, creates the Mahayoga. The exchange between the 9th and the Ascendant lords endowed great benevolent traits to the native. This Mahayoga also conferred a great amount of wealth by way of his being a leading advocate of his time. At the same time, he donated a huge amount to the congress organisation without any qualm or hitch. No rich person spends without profit, but he was a Yogi in this matter.

    Effect of the Malavya Yoga:

    अस्थूलोष्ठोऽप्यविषमवपुर्नैव रक्तङ्​गसन्धि-

    र्मध्ये क्षामः शशधररुचिर्हस्तिनासः सुगण्डः ॥

    सद्दीप्ताक्षः समितिशितरहो जानुदेशप्तपाणि-

    र्मालव्योऽयं विलसति नृपः सप्ततिर्वत्सराणाम्​ ॥ 1 ॥

    A person born in Malavya Yoga will have sleek lips, a robust body, the joint of the body devoid of blood, slender waist, splendour equal to that of the moon, nostril alike elephant Tusker, attractive forehead and beautiful piercing sight. He will be persistently assertive, will have arms extended to knees and will rule upto seventy years.

    वक्त्रं त्रयोदशमिताङ्​गलमस्य दीर्धं

    तिर्यग्दशाङ्​गलमितं श्रवणान्तरालम्​ ॥

    मालव्यसंज्ञनृपतिः ससुतो भुनक्ति

    लाटा ंश्व मालव-ससिन्धु-सुपारियात्रान्​ ॥ 2 ॥

    One with the birth in the Malavya Yoga will have 13 Angulas lengths of his mouth and the width between two ears will be ten Angulas. He along with his son will rule Laata, Malawa, Sindh provinces duly extended upto Pariyatra mountains.

    Notes: The effects narrated in the above verses hardly characterise any particular trait of the native except describing certain limbs of the body and the native’s possessiveness. However, in other texts, certain additional significations of this Yoga have been listed. For example; According to Jataka Deshmarga, the native will be fond of music, jewelry, women, fine clothes, etc. He will be richly dressed and given to pleasures to satisfy his passion and will be an elegant person. (All these qualities fall in the ambit of Venus significations). In Phaladeepika, it is stated that the said native will be resolute, opulent with good fortune. He will enjoy a variety of pleasures including good conveyances. He will be erudite, renowned and possess a steady mind. Jataka Parijata describes him as a meritorious and powerful person who will be well versed in the sacred scriptures, who will prudently apply his skill of counseling, capacity to work and energy. He will be passionately inclined towards other women and hold liberal views. Saravali holds near about the same views that have been contained in these texts.

    Malavya Yoga is prominently available in the chart of some of the very great personalities of the world who have been instrumental in writing the history of the world. Mahatma Gandhi has Malavya Yoga duly formed in the Ascendant of his nativity.

    Venus is located in the Ascendant in Libra sign owned by Venus giving rise to Malavya Yoga. The country attained independence in August 1947 when Gandhi Ji was running Venus Sub-period, in the main period of Jupiter which is posited in the sign of Venus. On one hand, Venus was responsible for the culmination of his cherished dream of India’s Independence, it brought along much grief and discomfiture because of riots, bloodshed and especially the injustice faced by the millions of people, particularly women and children during the partition. His mission of life of non-violence crumbled. The Dasa lord Jupiter is functionally malefic in the chart, ruling the 3rd and the 6th house and getting posited in the 8th house and aspected by Saturn. The Maraka lord Mars getting conjunct with Venus in the Ascendant has further weakened the Yoga. (Besides, the Dasa and subperiod lords are in 6th/8th position).

    Jayalalitha apart from Hamsa Yoga in her birth chart (see chart-11) also has Malavya Yoga with the placement of Venus in the 10th house in Pisces, the sign of exaltation of Venus. This great and powerful Yoga getting formed in the 10th house gave sumptuous success to her career which was related to Venus’s significations. Both Hamsa and Malavya Yogas enabled her to cherish worldly ambitions. Besides, Venus also being the ruler of the 5th house in the 10th house provides great strength to the native. According to sage Satyacharya, the disposition of the 5th lord in the 10th house duly powerful, gives much success in the political career.

    Another personality on the horizon of this country in Ms. Sonia Gandhi has Malavya Yoga.

    Venus giving rise to Malavya Yoga is posited in Mooltrikona sign in the 4th house duly conjoined with Jupiter. During the Subperiod of Venus, she emerged as a member of Parliament, which opened the path of her political career. This Yoga has bestowed on the native a status like a king (national leader). She is resolute, opulent, with good fortune and enjoys all sorts of pleasures including good conveyances (Phaladeepika ). It shows that the impression of Yoga is subtle and peaked at the right time.

    Princess Diana is yet another worldly known figure born under Malavya Yoga.

    Venus is forming Malavya yoga in the 7th house endows dignity and contributed to the high status to her husband and thereby her own ascension through marriage. Venus in the 7th house in its own sign has been very positive for the Princess. She was so beautifully attired that her impact on the British fashion industry and British designers throughout the 1980s was so great that she single handily changed the way the royal women dress. Venus certainly empowered Princess Diana. Venus in Taurus in the 7th house cast its aspect on the Ascendant denoting physicality and personality, attached to Diana’s beauty, charm and artistic orientation.

    The other most important personalities who have Malavya Yoga in their nativity are Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru (Chart-31) and Mahatma Ghandhi (Chart-15). Pt. Nehru’s birth chart with Cancer Ascendant is occupied by the Moon. Venus and Mercury are in the 4th house in the Libra sign creating Malavya Yoga. The birth chart of Mr. Gujral also has Libra Ascendant with Venus posited over there giving rise to a strong Malavya Yoga. He became Prime Minister of the country in the major period of Jupiter (placed in the 10th house) and Sub-period of Venus.

    Effects of Sasa Yoga:

    लघुर्द्विजाऽस्योऽद्निगतः सकोपः शठोऽतिशूरो विजनप्रचारः

    वनाद्निदुर्गेषु नदीषु सक्तः प्रियातिथिर्नातिलघुः प्रसिद्धः ॥ 1 ॥

    A person born in Sasa Yoga will have a smallmouth with short teeth. He will reside in the mountains, be wrathful, a great warrior and will wander in the forests. He will be fond of areas like forests, mountains, fort and rivers and will be endeared to guests. He will have medium height and a famous person.

    नानासेनानिचयनिरतो दन्तुरश्चापि किञ्चि-

    द्धातोर्वादे भवति कुशल श्​वञ्चलो लोलनेत्रः

    स्त्रीसंसक्तः परधनहरो मातृभक्तः सुजंघो

    मध्ये क्षामः सुललितमती रन्ध्रवेदी परेषाम्​ ॥ 2 ॥

    He will be engaged in marshaling the army of the assorted kind, will have large teeth, be an expert metallurgist, will have the restless nature with twinkling eyes. He will get engrossed in the woman’s company, will usurp others’s wealth; be devoted to his mother; will have beautiful thighs and a thin waist. He will be highly intelligent and will indulge in finding faults in others.

    पर्यङ्कशङ्खशरशस्त्रमृदङ्गमाला-

    वीणोपमः खलु करे चरणे च रेखाः ।

    वर्षाणि सप्तति मितानि करोति राज्यं

    प्राप्तं शशाख्यनृपतिः कथितो मुनीन्द्नैः ॥ 3 ॥

    The hands and feet of the native born in Sasa Yoga will bear figures of palanquin, conch, arrow, Mridanga, (percussion), beads string (rosary), lines like Veena. He will rule for seventy years as stated by the sages.

    Notes. The effects enshrined in the Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra are also notified in the above Shalokas except the native is said to live upto seventy years and will rule for the same length of the period as contended above. According to Jataka Deshmarga, the native will be a royal favourite and be a chieftain of an area or an agriculturist and will have abundant food grains. He will pre-empt others’ disloyalty. These are the supplementary effects shown in this text. He will be well acclaimed by everyone says savant Mantreswara and adds that the native will have a fraudulent disposition and will fall for other’s wives and will lay hold on other’s wealth for his personal satisfaction.

    As per Jataka Parijata, the native will be either king, minister or hunting around forests and mountains. He will be bountiful, forceful and a lustful person. As per Kalyana Varma, the native will be deceitful, very courageous but fickle-minded. This Yoga has also created great personalities and some of them are discussed over here.

    Saturn in his own sign in the 10th house creates Sasa Mahapurusha Yoga. Mars in Scorpio and 7th from the Moon is construed to give rise to Ruchaka Yoga. These Yogas confer great opulence and coveted position in one’s life. Saturn Dasa was operating at the time, he was conferred with a Nobel prize for economics. His concept on economic policies is focussed on poverty, inequality and deprivation and directed to the upliftment of the masses as denoted by Saturn.

    Saturn, forming Sasa Mahapurusha Yoga is also the dispositor of the Moon and has given Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) through inheritance from his father (Sun’s mutual aspects with Saturn). Venus the lord the Dhanasthana posited in the 4th house., the real place of family wealth is directly aspected by Saturn and conjoining with the Sun over there, giving a hold on an institution or a company. Saturn (significator of steel TISCO) laid the foundation to build the edifice of Tata empire.

    Panchmahapurusha Bhanga Yoga:

    केन्द्रोच्चगा यद्यपि भूसुताद्या मार्तण्डशीतांशुवशा भवन्ति ।

    कुर्वन्ति नोर्वीपतिमात्मपाके यच्छन्ति ते केवल-सत्फलानि ॥ 1 ॥

    (This yoga is formed) When Mars, etc., five planets placed in quadrant in the state of exaltation (or own sign), but should these planets are in the grip of the Sun and or the Moon, all the five planets instead of conferment of kingship (to the native) will render just auspicious results during their respective periods. Therefore, the Raja Yoga or Panchmahapurusha Yoga be considered only after ascertaining the position of the Sun, the Moon and the strength of the involved planet.

    Notes: The most appropriate example of this maxim is that of Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao (chart-9) wherein the formation of Bhadra Yoga in the 10th house has an attachment of the Sun and Mars. It is on account of mollification of the effects of this Yoga, Mr. Rao did not reach to a great height equal to royalty and even failed to enjoy the fruit of his success and was subjected to humiliation. But he did receive auspicious effects of holding the top political position and managed to complete a full term of five years.

    Chapter 19

    The Moon Specific Yogas

    Sunapha, Anapha, Durudhara and Kemadruma Yogas:

    रविवर्जं द्वादशगैरनफा चन्द्नात्​ द्वितीयगैः सुनफा ।

    उभयस्थितैर्दुरुधरा केमद्नुमसंज्ञकोऽतोऽन्यः ॥ 1 ॥

    Barring the Sun, if any, another planet occupies the 12th house from the Moon, it will give rise to Anapha Yoga. Should it occupies the 2nd house (from the Moon) will create Sunapha Yoga and when planets occupy both sides of the Moon, it will originate Durudhara (auspicious) Yoga. When there is no planet on either side of the Moon, it will cause Kemadruma (inauspicious) Yoga.

    Effects of Sunapha Yoga:

    भौमादीनां फलं यत्स्याज्झात्वा त्वविकलंबुधः ।

    प्राज्ञाय प्रवदेत्सम्यक्​ सुनफादिकृतंफलम्​ ॥ 2 ॥

    In the succeeding verses, the quality and the nature of the effects of Mars etc., Planets are described. If Sunapha Yoga is formed through these planets, conformity to the, quality and nature of such planets shall be assimilated.

    विक्रमवित्तप्रायो निष्ठुरवचनश्वभूपतिश्चन्द्ने ।

    हिंस्त्रो नित्यविरोधी सुनफायांभौमसंयोगे ॥ 3 ॥

    In the Moon Chart, if Sunapha Yoga is formed by Mars, the native will be an exertive, wealthy, hard talker, royal, violent and will antagonize people.

    श्रुतिशास्त्रगेयकुशलो धर्मरतः काव्यकृन्मनस्वीच ।

    सर्वहितो रुचिरतनुः सुनफाया सोमजो भवति ॥ 4 ॥

    If Mercury gives rise to Sunapha Yoga, the native will be well versed in Vedic scripture and music; sagacious will compose poetry; and be an intelligent, person. He will be the beloved of all and will possess an attractive physique.

    नानाविद्याचार्यं ख्यांत नृपतिं वृषप्रियं चापि ।

    सकुटुम्बधनसमृद्धं सुनफाया सुरगुरुः कुरुते ॥ 5 ॥

    If Jupiter gives rise to Sunapha Yoga, the native will be a scholar of many studies, famous, king and devoutly religious. He will be endowed with wealth and family.

    स्त्रीक्षेत्रभूमिगृहपश्वतुष्पदाढ्यः सुविक्रमो भवति ।

    नृपसत्कृतः सुवेषो दक्षः शुक्रेण सुनफायाम्​ ॥ 6 ॥

    If Venus forms the Sunapha Yoga, the native will possess women, agriculture field (Khethi) landed property, house and animals (cattle). He will be laborious, honoured by the king, attractively attired and a clever person.

    निपुणमतिर्ग्रामपुरैर्नित्यं सम्पूजितो धनसमृद्धः ।

    सुनफायां रवितनये क्रियासु गुप्तो भवेन्मलिनः ॥ 7 ॥

    Should Saturn creates Sunapha yoga, the native will be intelligent, revered by the people of the town and the rural area. He will be wealthy, secretive about his work and a frugal person.

    Notes: Almost all the ancient classical works touched upon the Moon based Yogas showing different shades of consequential effects. Saravali: The native with the planet other than the Sun in the 2nd house from the Moon, causing Sunapha YOGA, which will promote his prospects of riches and will be a self-made person. The auspicious planet viz., Venus, Jupiter or Mercury will confer prosperity so is the case with exalted Mars and Saturn. This fact is affirmed by Varaha Mihira in Brihat Jataka which interprets that the native will be a king or equal to the one, provided the planets generating such a Yoga are dignified or in a state of exaltation. Should the planets involved be weak or in debilitation, though they will deny the full results, they will certainly show some good effects. Maharishi Parasara in chapter 37 of the Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra also endorses the effects that the native will be famous, intelligent and will possess self-earned wealth.

    The occurrence of this Yoga is rather too frequent and it enjoins upon the person interpreting the status, to make a careful assessment before delivering any judgment, as it greatly depends upon the nature of the lord or lords of the planet(s) located in the 2nd house. According to Shaloka 4 of chapter XIII of Brihat Jataka, there are 3 varieties of Sunapha and Anapha Yogas. The results of different planets, causing this Yoga will deliver different effects to what has been notified in the above text. All other classical by and large gave away similar effects.

    The horoscope drawn as chart-2 of John Major, the former Prime Minister of Britain, has an exalted Mars in the 2nd house from the Moon. As stated by Varaha Mihira, an exalted Mars and Saturn forming Sunapha Yoga will bestow great prosperity. Here Mars is posited in the Ascendant having the lordship of the 4th and the 11th houses which provide comforts and opulence to the native. Amar Singh spoke person of Samajwadi Janta Party is a born organizer, has a Sunapha Yoga formed through Jupiter.

    The Moon is in its own sign Cancer, which makes the native generally devoted to public life and humane at heart. Jupiter placed in the 2nd house from the Moon, gives rise to Sunapha Yoga which endowed great opulence, intelligence and a renowned public figure. The other prominent Yoga present in the chart in Parvatha Yoga will be discussed at an appropriate place.

    Sunapha Yoga with Saturn being in the 2nd house from the Moon gave the native dominating and towering personality with profound intelligence. He has been a secretive person with a frugal disposition. His dedicated work was acclaimed by one and all. (Also see his chart-72 for more details).

    Effect of Anapha Yoga:

    चौरस्वामी दृप्तः स्ववशो मानी रणोत्कण्ठः ।

    क्रोधात्सम्पत्साध्यः कुजेऽनफायां प्रगल्भश्च ॥ 1 ॥

    If Anapha Yoga is created through Mars the native will be the chief of thieves and endowed with brilliance. He will exercise self-restrained; be a frugal person and be quick to pick up a fight. He will acquire assets by force and be a haughty person.

    गान्धर्वो लेखपटुः कविः प्रवक्ता नृपाप्तसत्कारः ।

    रुचिरः सुभगश्व बुधे प्रसिद्धकर्माऽनफायां स्यात्​ ॥ 2 ॥

    If Mercury forms Anapha Yoga, the native will be proficient in musical art etc.; an ingenious writer, poet and orator. He will be honoured by the king; will be beautiful, fortunate and will become famous for his noble deeds.

    गम्भीरः सन्मेधासंयुक्तो बुद्धिमान्नृपाप्तयशाः ।

    अनफायां त्रिदशगुरौ सञ्जातः सत्कविर्भवति ॥ 3 ॥

    Should Jupiter give rise to Anapha Yoga, the native will possess a serious nature, prudent, wise and will receive felicitation from the king.

    युवतीनामतिसुभगः प्रणयी क्षितिपस्य गोपतिः कान्तः ।

    कनकसमृद्धश्व पुमाननफायां भार्गवे भवति ॥ 4 ॥

    If Venus generates Anapha Yoga, the native will be the beloved of women, a favourite of the king will rear cattle (quadruped). He will be attractive and possess the wealth of gold.

    विस्तीर्णभुजः सुभगोगृहीतवाक्यश्वतुषपदसमृद्धः ।

    दुर्वनितागणभोक्ता गुणसहितः पुत्रवान्​रविजे ॥ 5 ॥

    Should Saturn forms the Anapha Yoga, the native will have long arms and will listen and believe in pleasant talks. He will have cattle, will make union with the wicked women and will possess merits and children.

    Note: According to Brihat Jataka, the person concerned will have good health, will be virtuous, will enjoy good pleasure, will be desirous of receiving awards and will be devoid of any mental tension. The pleasure connotation given by the savant will be in a manner one draws contentment from one’s intense desire but not in the sense of everlasting or divine happiness. This is more in the context with the material enjoyments which would gratify his ambitions but in a limited sense. This will not transcend beyond the frontier of worldly happiness to assimilate yogic pleasure which brings about mental strength and solace and will cause spiritual endowments and attainments. Jataka Deshamarga adds that the native will have affable and refined etiquettes and will display civility. He will be a renowned figure and endowed with material comforts. He will be impeccably attired and a happy and serene person. Phaladeepika holds identical views. Saravali almost said the same thing, but differently. According to this, the native will have eloquent speech, a benevolent and sagacious nature. He will be fond of sumptuous food and drinks, attractive flowers, garments and women. He will have a majestic appearance and will enjoy a good reputation.

    The premises of Sunapha and Anapha Yogas are that the planets second to the Moon will give the flavour of accretion of wealth, assets etc. While the positioning of planets in the 12th place to the Moon will relate to expenditures or spendings of the native on pleasure rendering matters. Therefore, the sway will be from accumulation to spending on enjoyments and comforts.

    Like Sunapha, Anapha Yoga also has 31 possible formations. The quality of Yoga needs to be carefully assessed before drawing any conclusions. Besides, these Yogas are formed by multiple planets and effects in each case will get altered suitably. Should the planets responsible is giving rise to these Yogas be in debilitation, they will manifest contrary effects to what has been notified. For example, if the Moon is placed in the Aries sign and Mercury occupies Pisces, the native instead of getting honoured will get disgraced by the authority and will become infamous due to ignoble deeds and so on.

    There is a good number of celebrities whose horoscopes are having Anapha Yoga contributing to their coveted status.

    It has been seen that one born in Anapha Yoga will have political acumen, ethical tutelage, perseverance and will be capable of attracting others. The formation of Anapha Yoga in the case of Mr. Advani is through an auspicious and unafflicted planet. Jupiter has provided prudence, seriousness and energy to tread successfully in his political career. He has been felicitated by those who matter and has been able to handle the ethos and basic spirit of national culture with great skill and astute.

    Jupiter giving rise to Anapha Yoga also conferred an illustrious political career. He was the leader of great eminence and had been able to occupy the country’s top most position of Prime Ministership. He however, encountered difficulties and turbulences and was let down by his own people twice. Although exalted Jupiter steered him through with some blemishes, the position of the Moon on the Rahu-Ketu axis with the Sun placed exactly opposite, did cause impediments and reverses. However, the disposition of solar eclipse in its radical position remained a source of discomfiture and embarrassment.

    Effect of Durudhara Yoga:

    अनृतवचा बहुवित्तो निपुणोऽतिशठो गुणाधिको लुब्धः ।

    वृद्धस्त्रीषु प्रसक्तः कुलाग्रणी शशिनि भौमबुधमध्ये ॥ 1 ॥

    If Durudhara Yoga is formed between Mars and Mercury, the native will be untruthful, highly rich, clever, wicked, virtuous and greedy. He will cohabit with older women and will be the elder of the family.

    ख्यातः कर्मसु कितवो बहुधनवैरस्त्वमर्षणो धृष्टः ।

    आरक्षः कुजगुर्वोर्मध्यगते शशिनिसङ्​ग्राही ॥ 2 ॥

    If this Yoga is created by Mars and Jupiter, the native will be famous for his work and deceitful. His wealth will create enemies, will be temperamental and haughty. He will be a protector and hoarder.

    उत्तमरामः सुभगो विवादशीलोऽस्त्रविद्​भवेच्छूरः ।

    व्यायामी रणशीलः सितारयोर्मध्यगे चन्द्रे ॥ 3 ॥

    Should this Yoga is caused by Mars and Venus the native will have a beautiful wife, will be handsome, controversial, skilled in weapons and a brave person. He will be laborious and enthusiastic about combat.

    उत्तमसुरतो बहुधनसञ्चयकारी व्यसनासक्तश्च ।

    क्रोधी पिशुनो रिपुमान्​यमारयोः स्याद्​दुरुधरायाम्​ ॥ 4 ॥

    If this Yoga is formed by Mars and Saturn, the native will be libidinous; will amass copious wealth, lascivious and a wrathful person. He will be a back-biter and surrounded by enemies.

    धर्मरतः शास्त्रज्ञो वाचिपटुः सर्ववर्द्धनसमृद्धः ।

    त्यागयुतो विख्यातो गुरुबुधमध्यस्थिते चन्द्न्रे ॥ 5 ॥

    If this Yoga is raised between Mercury and Jupiter, the native will be religious, learned of sacred scriptures, plain talker and endowed with a variety of things. He will be a renouncer and a famous person.

    देशे देशे गच्छति वित्तवशे नास्ति विद्यया सहितः ।

    चन्द्नेऽन्येषां पूज्यः स्वजनविरोधी ज्ञशुक्रयोर्मध्ये ॥ 6 ॥

    If this Yoga is formed by Mercury and Venus, the native will travel in domestic and to foreign countries; contented and be a learned person. He will be revered by others but will get opposed by his own people.

    प्रियवाक्​ सुभगः कान्तः प्रवृत्तगो यदि सुकृतवान्नृपतिः ।

    सौख्यं शूरो मन्त्री ज्ञमन्दयोर्मध्यगे च हिमकिरणे ॥ 7 ॥

    Should this Yoga be created by Mercury and Saturn, the native will be an eloquent speaker, good looking and an attractive person. He will be virtuous and have an exploring nature. He will be royal, happy, valorous and well versed in Mantras (Mystic hyms).

    धृतिमेधः स्थैर्ययुतो नीतिज्ञः कनकरत्नपरिपूर्णः ।

    ख्यातो नृपकृत्यकरो गुरुसितयोर्दुरुधरायोगे ॥ 8 ॥

    If this Yoga is formed by Jupiter and Venus, the native will be highly composed; will possess steady nature, will understand rules of working (diplomacy), be endowed with gems and gold, be famous and be the employee of the king.

    सुखनयविज्ञानयुतः प्रियवाग्​ विद्वान्​ धुरन्धरो मर्त्यः ।

    स-युतो धनी सुरूपश्चन्द्नो गुरुमन्दयोर्मध्ये ॥ 9 ॥

    Should the Moon is in between Jupiter and Saturn, the native will be comfortable, diplomat, scientist, eloquent speaker, erudite and capable of doing a variety of work. He will be blessed with sons and be a good-looking person.

    वृद्धापतिं कुलाढ्यं निपुणं स्त्रीवल्लभं धनसमृद्धम्​ ।

    नृपसत्कृतं बहुज्ञं कुरुते शनिशुक्रयोश्चरायुः ॥ 10 ॥

    If the Moon is in between Venus and Saturn, the native will be the husband of an older woman of noble descent and well versed in a variety of works. He will be beloved of females and a great opulent; will get regards from the king and will have knowledge of many subjects.

    Notes: Learned Varaha Mihira deposed the general effects of this Yoga and went on to explain that a person born under this setup, will relish the delight conferred upon him and also the pleasure of riches and conveyances. He will be bounteous, lavish and will have many servants. These convictions of the author stand to mean that the native will be felicitous and well off in the matter of worldly objects and would draw a great amount of pleasure out of it. Here again, the focus is on material happiness and not spiritual contentment.

    All other classical works dished out identical effects except in case of Saravali in which Kalyana Varma opined differently like the native will be widely renowned for his eloquent speech, prudence, courage and sagaciousness. He will relish the progression of his life, opulence etc., and will possess good conduct. Prithu Yasas, son of doyen Varaha Mihira, in Horasara gave away the effects like that one born under this Yoga will draw pleasure from self-indulgence and exuberance and he will be an impressive articulator. He will enjoy battles and will lead an army of men. Despite being royal, he will be a reclusive kind.

    Most of the ancient works in astrology described general results, but these effects to occur will depend upon the nature and dignity of the planets abounding the Moon. As could be observed from the current text which divulges the results elaborately and severally for each set of planets surrounding the Moon.

    Scholar Vaidyanatha Dikshita in Shlokas 106 and 107 of Chapter VIII of Jataka Parijata (JP) propounded a precept wherein the effectiveness of the Sutras relating to Moon’s Yogas narrated in this format are explained. Besides, the savant also expressed his opinion that should Rahu or Ketu get involved in the formation of these Yogas (who are otherwise non-entity), shall not be given any weightage.
