    Bhaavatraya Prabhakaram - Muthireddy Prabhakar

    Part – I

    Principles of

    Bhaava Lord System

    Chapter-1

    The Concept of

    Bhaava Lord System

After a thorough research, Sri Nallan Chakravartula Venkata Varadachari garu, the Adiguru of this system, founded a principle that all the planets are good and have a specific role to play in every person’s birth chart and that no planet can be generalized as a benefic planet or a malefic planet. All planets will give good or bad results as per ownership of the bhavas (Houses) from the Ascendant.

The planet which gets ownership of the 1st, 5th and 9th bhavas from the Ascendant (Lagna) will always give good results, no matter whether they are malefic, or benefic. The Ascendant or Lagna bhava, 5th bhava and 9th bhava are called a trine (trikona) and the planets which get ownership of these bhavas, as per the Lagna of an individual’s horoscope always give good results.

Likewise, the Lords of 7th, 11th and 3rd bhavas from the Ascendant always give bad results. The reason is that they are opposite to the trine of 1, 5, 9 Bhavas. 7th house is opposite to Lagna bhava or Ascendant, i.e., at 180 degrees. 11th house is opposite to 5th house and 3rd house is opposite to 9th house.

The planets Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus and Mercury have lordships over two houses in a chart. Out of these, the planets which get ownership of 1st, 5th and 9th bhavas from the Ascendant always give good results to that horoscope, irrespective of the 2nd ownership they may get. For example, Saturn is the lord of Ascendant Capricorn and hence, it’s naturally good (1st, 5th and 9th bhavas from the Ascendant always give good results). He also gets ownership of 2nd house (Aquarius), then based on the first house, 2nd house is also good. Similarly in a horoscope with Aries Ascendant, Mars is the lord of Ascendant-Aries. He also gets ownership of 8th house (Scorpio). Here Saturn and Mars though they are naturally malefic planets as per Indian Traditional astrology, they would still give good results to Capricorn Lagna and Aries Lagna respectively.

The lords of 3rd, 7th and 11th bhavas, even though they are natural benefics like Jupiter, Venus, Moon etc. as per Indian traditional astrology, will always give bad results, whatever be the 2nd ownership they get.

This is the main concept of Bhaava Lord System. Based on this fundamental principle, Bhaava Lord system is framed by Adiguru of this system.

The second guru of this system Sri Ganapati Kadirappa garu formulated a table showing the strength of the planets in degrees. My master, Sri Vere Kondappa garu reformed the system. I have been practicing this system for the past many years. After examining several charts and through practical experience, I have updated the Bhaava Lord System.

    Chapter-2

    Uniqueness of

    Bhaava Lord System

Often, people are curious to find out as to what is the special feature in Bhaava Lord system and what is its Significance. Is it different from traditional astrology? It is humbly submitted that it is a simplified method of Indian traditional astrology following the dictum-Sarve Trikona Netaro Graha Shubha Phala Pradaha sloka by Sage Parasara.

In other systems, in order to examine a horoscope, so many other ingredients and charts like navamsha chart, ashtakavarga points etc., are required. In Krishnamurthy Paddhati, sub-lord is the key factor to judge a horoscope. In these circumstances, it is difficult to judge a horoscope unless you have a very good software catering to these needs. However, it is clarified that all the systems are equally good and give good results if we follow the recommended procedure prescribed therein.

The advantage with Bhaava Lord system is that only the natal chart (D-1 chart) is enough to examine a horoscope. With the help of the natal chart, we can give predictions very quickly. In this system also we do have some caluculations to determine the strength of the planet. But these calculations are easy and if we learn these calculations perfectly, predictions can be given within 5-10 minutes.

Once we understand the system, we immediately get the idea on the strength of the planets and their connections to the Bhavas and Bhaava Lords. One more salient feature in this system is that once we practice this system with full attention and devotion, by knowing the character of a person, we can predict the planetary position in his horoscope. So, if predictions can be made based on character, just imagine how simple normal predictions would be. Needless to emphasise, tremendous dedication and hard work is required to achieve this stage.

    Chapter-3

Introduction to Astrology and Bhavatraya System

    imgp7

Azs the reader may be aware, the Zodiac is the sky and it forms a full circle of 360 degrees. Our ancient sages have divided the zodiac into 12 equal parts called Signs, comprising of 30 degrees each. This Zodiac circle is called Bha-chakra in Sanskrit. Bha means light or Rasi chakra. The 12 Signs are shown hereunder:

There are 9 planets namely, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. Out of these, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn are alloted two Rasis each. The planets Sun and Moon are alloted one Rasi each, i.e., Sun is allotted Leo and Moon is allotted Cancer. Rahu and Ketu do not own any Signs. Thus, 12 Rasis (Signs) are divided between 7 planets. The planets Rahu and Ketu do not own any Rasi. They are called as ‘Chaaya Grahas’ (nodes).

The sages furher divided the zodiac into 27 parts called Stars, each comprising a span of 13 degrees and 20 minutes. Each star is further divided into 4 parts called Padas, having a span of 3 degrees and 20 minutes each. Thus, there are a total of 108 padas (27×4= 108).

    imgp8

The zodiac commences at 0 degrees from Aries. Each Sign covers two and quarter portion of the stars (a total of 9 Padas) and that they are juxtaposed by the Signs as detailed in the table given on previous page.

The ancient sages alloted these 12 Signs to 7 planets as shown below:

    Bhavatraya system

The Bhaava Lord system is based on Parasara Paddhati (method), given by the great sage Parasara. This system is also called as Bhavatraya system. Traya means three. As the planets get ownership of two Rasis as mentioned above, while examining any bhava in the horoscope as per this system, we have to examine the two Rasis owned by the planet and also the placement of that particular planet which owns that bhava. Thus, while examining any bhava, we have to examine the two houses owned by the planet as well as the planet itself. That is why it is called bhavatraya.

Of course, Sun and Moon have only one house and therefore, they are referred to as bhava dwaya i. e., Sun and Leo, Moon and Cancer. In Bhavalord system only 9 planets are considered. The other planets like Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are not considered. The reason is that Parasara Maharshi mentioned that Sun’s light effectively reaches only until the planet Saturn and gets reflected on the earth. The other planets are too far away for their reflections, if any, to impact the earth.

    Movement of Planets

The Sun takes one year to go around eclipitic, i.e., 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 45 seconds. The movement of the Sun in each Rasi is called a Solar Month. In the telugu speaking States i.e., in Andhra and Telangana, the solar month is not considered and only the solar year is considered.

Moon goes around the 12 Rasis in 29 days 12 hours, 44 minutes, 3 seconds or 29. 530589 days. Thus, the time taken by Moon to go around the Rasi chakra in one year would be 354 days 8 hours 48 minutes 36 seconds. The difference between the time taken by the Sun and Moon to go around the Rasi chakra in a year is 10 days 21 hours and for 3 years, it comes to 32 days 10 hours. In order to adjust this difference, the lunar calendar inserts one extra month in its calendar once in 3 years. This extra month is referred to as an Adhika Masa. The system where lunar months are followed is known as Chandramana. Though Islam also follows a lunar calendar, there is no adhika masam for them.

There are 12 months in the Lunar Calendar. The name of the Lunar month is given on the basis of the star occupied by the full Moon of that month. The names of the 12 months are as follows:

    Days of the week

There are 7 days in a week. and the 7 planets will rule these 7 days as detailed below:

Thus, we may observe that there is a difference in the order of planets placed in the Zodiac and the order of the planets in a week. The reason for this is---

The day is divided into 24 hours. An Hour is called as hora and each hora is ruled by each planet in the following order as per their placement in zodiac:

Saturn is a farthest planet is followed by Jupiter, Mars, Sun (placed in lieu of the earth), Venus, Mercury, Moon, in that order.

The planet which rules the hour at the time of Sun Rise would rule that day.

The day on which Sun rules at the time of Sunrise, i.e., at 6 AM, will be called Sunday.

On Sunday the hora will be as follows as per the order of planets’ position in the zodiac listed above. For example, Sunday’s horas will be as under:

Next, the Sun will rule and this cycle repeats continuously. Therefore, on the next day, at the time of Sunrise, Moon will rule and the day will be called Monday. The hora will continue from Moon followed by Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sun, Venus, Mercury and so on…

The next day, at the time of Sunrise, Mars will rule. In this way, the hora will start from Mars and go on.

Ayana, Ritu, Paksha, Stars et al…

The year is divided into two parts, each part consisting of six months. One is Uttarayana and the other one is Dakshinayana. The transiting period of the Sun in northward direction of the Zodiac is called Uttarayana and the transiting of Sun in southward direction is called Dakshinayana. In Uttarayana, Sun travels from the Signs Capricorn to Gemini. In Dakshinayana, Sun transits in the Signs Cancer to Sagittarius.

There are 6 seasons called Ritu/ Rutu in Sanskrit. They are as listed below: 1) Vasanta Rutu; 2) Grishma Rutu; 3) Varsha Rutu; 4) Sharad Rutu; 5) Hemanta Rutu; and 6) Shishira Rutu.

A month is divided into two parts, each part is called a ‘Paksha’. Each Paksha consists of 15 days. The day staring from newmoon day is called Shukla Paksha. The day starting from Fullmoon day is called Bahula Paksha or Krishna Paksha. On newmoon day, the Sun and Moon will be together on the same degree and is referred to as Amavasya. On fullmoon day Sun and Moon will be in opposite rasis exactly 180 degrees apart and is called ‘’ Purnima’ ’. Each day starting from New Moon day is given a name, as listed below:

We have already discussed that there are 27 stars. The nine planets have rulership over these 27 stars as detailed below:

Ruling planets of the Rasis are as detailed below:

    imgp16

Mars rules over Aries and Scorpio, Venus rules over Taurus and Libra, Mercury rules over Gemini and Virgo, Moon rules over Cancer, Sun rules over Leo, Jupiter rules over Sagittarius and Pisces, Saturn rules over Capricorn and Aquarius. The above are very important and needs to be remembered well. In Bhaava Lord system, we will not consider exalted or debilitated planets.

The ancient sages considered the life span of human beings as 120 years and accordingly divided the dasha period among the planets as shown below. This is called Vimshottari Dasha.

The order and times of the maha dashas are shown in the following table:

The maha dasha will start from the time of birth of the Person. The lord of maha dasha is the ruler of the star in which Moon is placed at the time of birth. For example, if a person is born in Pushyami star ruled by Saturn, the person starts with Saturn dasha at birth and there after will be followed by Mercury dasha, Ketu dasha, Venus dasha and so on, in the order mentioned above. Every maha dasha is further sub-divided into antar dashas, sukshma dashas. etc. But most important is maha dasha.

    Chapter-6

Planetary Aspects under Bhaava Lord System

As we have already discussed earlier, the Rasi chakra consists of 12 Rasis (Signs) and each Rasi (Sign) will have 30 degrees, totalling 360 degrees. Likewise, Bhaava Lord System envisages that the planets also have 30 degrees influence on the Rasis/ bhava in which they are posited. All the planets will have 7th aspect and influence 7th Sign (Rasi) from the Sign (Rasi) in which they have posited. Thus, all the planets influence the Rasi in which they are placed, as well as the 7th Sign (Rasi) or bhava from their placement.

In addition to the fact that all the planets have 7th aspect as mentioned above, the outer planets namely Mars, Jupiter and Saturn have additional special aspects as listed below:

•Mars will have 4th aspect and 8th aspect from the house it occupies (besides 7th aspect).

•Jupiter will have 5th aspect and 9th aspect (besides 7th aspect).

•Saturn will have 3rd aspect and 10th aspect (besides 7th aspect).

•This is very important and to be taken note of. Now we see example charts.

    imgp32

In the chart given below, Venus is placed in Gemini. Let us examine the Signs which it influences.

If Venus occupies Gemini his influence is on Gemini and by his 7th aspect influences Sagittarius. The question that may arise in the reader’s mind is, does Venus influence the entire 30° of Gemini and Sagittarius? The answer is affirmative only and if only when Venus is posited at 0° in Gemini, otherwise Venus does nor influence the entire 30° of Gemini and Sagittarius. This is the most significant feature of the Bhaava Lord system. In traditional astrology, when Venus is placed in Gemini, it is deemed that it exerts its influence on Gemini and Sagittarius, irrespective of the degrees of Venus. But in Bhaava Lord System, the degrees in which Venus is posited (in this example) plays a very important role, since a planet influences a Rasi to an extent of 30° commencing from the degree in which he is posited. That’s how the astro gurus have created the Bhaava Lord system

Now we see another example chart

    Chart No 1

VENUS placed at 27 degrees in Gemini.

In this case, Venus is placed at 27 degrees, hence his influence on Gemini is only 3 degrees and his influence on Cancer is 27 degrees. Here, Venus cannot influence Gemini much, since he is placed in the last few degrees of Gemini. Likewise, by his 7th aspect he influences Sagittarius only to the extent of 3 degrees and influences Capricorn to an extent of 27 degrees. The above two examples make it abundantly clear that a planet influences the Rasis/ bhavas to an extent of 30 degrees, from the point (in terms of degree) in which they are placed in the bhava. Similarly, their 7th aspect will fall at the same degree in the 7th Rasi from its placement.

In case a planet is placed at 10 degrees in Gemini, his influence on Gemini will be 20 degrees and 10 degrees on Cancer. Like wise his 7th aspect will be on Sagittarius (last) 20 degrees and on Capricorn (first) 10 degrees. Like wise we have to calculate the influence of the planets from the point of degree in which they placed.

Some more examples of planetary aspects:

In the previous example, we have examined how Venus, who is placed in Gemini at various degrees influences the Rasis, by way of his occupation and by way of his 7th aspect. Now let us examine the influences of Sun placed at 1 degree in Taurus .

    Chart No 2

In the given chart, Sun is placed at 1 degree in Taurus. The Sun, by way of his occupation, influences Taurus 29 degrees and Gemini 1 degree. By his 7th aspect, Sun influences Scorpio 29 degrees and Sagittarius 1 degree,

Example charts relating to Special Aspects:

In Chart No. 3 Saturn is placed at 5 degrees in Virgo. Let us examine his influence in various Rasis.

    Chart No 3

Saturn at 5 degrees in Virgo.

    imgp35

In this chart Saturn, by the way of his placement, influences Virgo 25 degrees and Libra 5 degrees. By his 7th aspect, he influences Pisces 25 degrees and Aries 5 degrees. We have already learnt that in addition to the 7th aspect, Saturn will have extra special aspects over 3rd and 10th Rasis from his placement. His 3rd aspect will fall at 5 degrees in Scorpio. Hence, he influences 25 degrees of Scorpio and 5 degrees of Sagittarius. Similarly, his 10th aspect falls at 5 degrees Gemini and continues till 5 degrees Cancer. Thus, to sum up, the influence of Saturn will be as follows.

Summing up the above, we find that Saturn will have following influence over the following:

Let us examine one more example chart to see how the planets influence the various raasis as per their placement.

    Chart No. 4

    imgp37

In this chart Mars is placed at 4 degrees in Libra. Since Mars occupied Libra at 4 degrees, he influences the Libra from 4 to 30 degrees i.e., 26 degrees and Scorpio from 0 to 4 degrees i.e., 4 degrees.

We had discussed earlier that Mars has extra special aspects on 4th and 8th houses from his placement. With his 4th aspect he influences Capricorn from 4° to 30° i.e., 26° and Aquarius 0 to 4° i.e., 4°. With his 7th aspect he influences Aries from 4 degrees to 30 degrees i.e., 26 degrees and Taurus from 0 to 4 degrees. With his 8th aspect, he influences Taurus from 4 degrees to 30 degrees and Gemini from 0 to 4 degrees.

To sum up like we did earlier, the influence of Mars on various Rasis in this chart will be as follows.

The following three charts are added so that you may attempt them on your own as revision and compare the results with the explanation given thereunder:

    Chart No. 5

In this chart Moon is placed at 29 degrees in Pisces.

    imgp38

He influences Pisces from 29th degree to 30th degree. i.e., only 1 degree. He further influences Aries from 0 degree to 29 degree.

By his 7th aspect he influences Virgo from 29th degree to 30th degree and Libra from 0 degree to 29 degrees.

Thus by his placement, he influences Pices ruled by Jupiter 1 degree and Aries ruled by Mars 29 degrees.

By his 7th aspect he influences Virgo ruled by Mercury by 1° and Libra ruled by Venus by 29°.

    Chart No 6

In this chart Jupiter is placed at 6 degrees in Scorpio.

    imgp39

Now let us examine how Jupiter placed in Scorpio at 6 degrees influences the Rasis by the way of his placements and aspects. Please note that Jupiter has special aspects in addition to 7th aspect.

Jupiter by his placement influences Scorpio from 6 degrees to 30 degrees i.e., 24 degrees and further continues till 0 to 6 degrees in Sagittarius. The 7th aspect of Jupiter will fall at 6 degrees in Taurus and continue till 6 degrees in Gemini. The 5th aspect of Jupiter will fall at 6 degrees in Pisces and continues till 6 degrees in Aries. The 9th aspect of Jupiter will fall at 6 degrees in Cancer and continues till 6 degrees in Leo.

To summarise Jupiter influences the Rasis as shown below.

    Chart No. 7

In this chart Mercury is placed at 10 degrees in Aquarius.

    imgp41

By his occupation he influences Aquarius from 10 to 30 degrees and continues from 0 to 10 degrees in Pisces.

His 7th aspect will fall at 10 degrees Leo and continues till 0 to 10 degrees in Virgo.

Thus, Mercury influences Aquarius ruled by Saturn 20 degrees, Pisces ruled by Jupiter 10 degrees, Leo ruled by Sun 20 degrees, his own house Virgo 10 degrees (by 7th aspect in the last two cases).

    Chapter-7

    Retrograde Planets

Retrograde motion is the apparent motion of a planet in a direction opposite to that of other bodies within its system, as observed from a particular point on the earth.

The term ‘retrograde’ is from the Latin word retrogradus–backward-step, the affix retro-meaning backwards and gradus meaning step. Retrograde is commonly used to describe the path of a planet as it travels through the sky, with respect to the zodiac, stars and other bodies of the celestial canopy. In this context, the term refers to planets, as they appear from Earth, stopping briefly and reversing direction at certain times, though in reality, of course, they perpetually orbit in the same uniform direction.

There is a need to understand the difference in retrogression of inner planets (Mercury and Venus) and outer planets (Mars, Jupiter and Saturn). The outer planets retrograde when they are farthest from the Sun and closest to the earth. Since the motion of the earth is faster than that of the outer planets, it appears that the outer planets are moving backwards. This apparent backward motion is known as retrogression. Because they are closest to the Earth, the retrograde planets are considered to be very strong planets, as per Bhaava Lord System.

It is also to be remembered that when these planets are farthest from Earth and closest to the Sun (they go behind the Sun), then it is called Astangatva (Combustion). Astangatva (Combust) planet is considered to be very weak planet as per Bhaava Lord system. The reason is when it is in Astangatva (Combust) state, that particular planet will be far from the earth and its light will not reflect on the earth and it merges in the light of the Sun. That is why they are called weak planets.

Rahu and Ketu are the nodes/ shadow planets and they always move in anti-clockwise motion. They are caused by the intersection of the Orbit path ways of Sun and Moon. The intersection occuring in North of equator is called Rahu (ascending node or dragon’s head) and that of the South is called Ketu (descending node or dragon’s tail) They are always 180 degrees apart, exactly opposite to each other. Since they are very near to the earth, they are considered to be strong.

The Sun and Moon are always prograde (in direct motion) and are never retrograde. Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde and never move in direct motion. Thus, only the planets Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury and Venus will have retrograde motion and will also face Astangatva.

In the previous chapter, we have seen how planets aspect the Rasis and to what extent it exerts influence on each Rasi (in degrees). We shall now see how retrograde planets aspect the Rasis and the extent of influence on them.

    Chart No 8

    imgp44

In this chart VENUS is placed at 27 degrees in Gemini He is in retrograde motion. Please note that due to his retrograde placement, he influences Gemini to the extent of 27 degrees. Earlier we had discussed that when Venus was placed at 27 degrees in direct motion, he influences Gemini from 27 degrees to 30 degrees i.e., 3 degrss only and continues to influence Cancer from 0 to 27 degrees.

But in this case, since he is in retrograde motion, his light turns back from 27th degree to 26, 25, 24, 23 so on and continues till 27th degree Taurus. i.e., from 27 degrees to 0⁰Gemini i.e., 27 degrees in Gemini and then continues from 30 degrees to 27 degrees in Taurus. i.e., 3 degrees in Taurus. Thus, by his placement he influences Gemini 27° and Taurus 3°.

Likewise, his 7th aspect will fall at 27th degree Sagittarius and turns back and continues till 27 degrees Scorpio. i.e., to say he influences Sagittarius 27 degrees and Scorpio 3 degrees.

To summarise, in this chart Venus influences Gemini 27 degrees and Taurus 3 degrees by his occupation and Sagittarius 27 degrees and Scorpio 3 degrees by his 7th aspect.

    Let’s see one more example:

    Chart No 9

    imgp45

In this chart Mercury is placed at 1 degree in Taurus and he is in retrograde motion. Therefore, his light instead of going forward, moves back till 1 degree in Aries. Hence his influence will be 1 degree in Taurus and then goes backward from 30 degrees to 1 degree in Aries. Thus, by placement his influence on Taurus is 1° and on Aries is 29°.

His 7th aspect will fall at 1⁰Scorpio and turns back and continues till 1⁰Libra. Thus, by 7th aspect his influence on Scorpio will be 1 degree and 29° on Libra.

It is hoped that the concept of influence of planets on Rasis when they are in retrogression is clear. Since the outer planets have special aspects as well, let us now see how the outer planets influence the Rasis when they are in retrograde motion in a chart.

    Chart No 10

    imgp46

In this chart Saturn is placed at 5 degrees in Virgo. He is retrograde.

Since Saturn is in retrogression, its rays turn back from Virgo 5 degree and travel back up to 5 degrees in Leo. Thus, Saturn influence starts at 5⁰Virgo, then goes to 4, 3, 2, 1 degree and continues in Leo from 30th degree to Leo 5 degrees. Thus, by his placement, Saturn influences Virgo 5 degrees and Leo 25 degrees.

Here the reader may observe that when he is in direct motion he influences Virgo 25 degrees and Libra 5 degrees, whereas in retrograde motion he influences Virgo 5 degrees and Leo 25 degrees.

The third aspect of Saturn will fall at 5 degrees in Scorpio and back upto 5 degrees Libra. By his 3rd aspect he influences Scorpio 5 degrees and Libra 25 degrees (whereas in his direct motion he influences Scorpio 25 degrees and Sagittarius 5 degrees).

The 7th aspect of Saturn falls at 5 degrees in Pisces and it turns back and continues till 5 degrees Aquarius. He influences 5 degrees Pisces and 25 degrees Aquarius (if Saturn was direct, his influence would be 25 degrees Pisces and 5 degrees Aries).

The 10th aspect of Saturn will fall at 5 degrees in Gemini and turns back and continues till 5 degrees Taurus. He influences 5 degrees Gemini and 25 degrees Taurus.

Thus, the influences of retrograde Saturn placed at 5 degrees Virgo will be as follows.

The overall influence of Saturn will be on the following houses:
