Preface
Life is Strange.
Life is a Mystery.
Life is unpredictable at the Best of Times.
The fact is, we can never predict what Life—or Fate, for that matter—will bring to us. Life is full of surprises!
After all, in the early experiences of Childhood and the early days of school, initially there really are no real aspirations for us at all, until we reach high school possibly, then we start to wonder, not too seriously, about this thing called the Future.
Ahhh, yes, the Future. Yes, Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be, the future is not for us to see, que sera sera.
Yes, the words from a famous Doris Day Hit back in the fifties, yes, the fifties, back in the Old Days, but still very relevant today.
Will I be handsome? Will I be Rich?
Yes, those words still linger in all our brains.
But regretfully, we can never predict what life will bring us, or what Fate has in store for us or will throw at us. Just when things appear to be going quite normally and happily, Fate steps in and throws us a curve ball that upsets the proverbial Apple Cart. Then we have to adjust to the new Ground Rules and pick up the pieces or pick ourselves up and start all over again and put our life back together again to the best of our ability.
Listen. Yes, we all have dreams that we aspire to. Who doesn’t?
Sometimes One’s Life’s Passions—or Dreams, if you will—tend to overshadow, or invariably cloud, the real issues in One’s Life. One gets too tied up in issues that are only a part of One’s own life. Then Possibly, in some cases, the Profession, Business, the Wheeling-and-Dealing aspect or side of life becomes so overpowering that one’s Personal Life is forgotten and those in your Personal Life are neglected, forgotten, ignored, to the point where suddenly you will wonder whether they still exist at all, almost in another world, a world you had forgotten about.
Yes, Life is unpredictable!
Yet sometimes fate will introduce something new, something that suddenly appears out of the blue, and sometimes this something or this someone is able to awaken you up from the fantasy world that you had created and bring you back to the World of the Living!
The Reality…
The Reality…
The Reality!
The Reality!

Chapter 1.01
Earl James Westgate
Earl Westgate was born on the small Island of Nantucket late in the Summer. Ashley, his mother, had spent the whole summer in their Nantucket Cottage in the peaceful setting of the Cape Cod and its two Major Islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. Civilization seemed and was far away, and Ashley, who was expecting, was able to just relax on the beautiful sandy beaches and the ever-present sand dunes, being guarded over by their all-white Border Collie, Ruby. She just loved sitting on the soft sands in among the Sand Grass and listening to the relaxing tunes that the blades of glass played as the Wind caressed and blew through them. Finally, the day arrived, and her son, Earl James Westgate, joined the Family.
As the peaceful summer days were coming to an end, Ashley and Edward Westgate and their new little Baby Boy, Earl, returned to their lovely home on Long Island and waited for Autumn to arrive and then for Winter to settle in on New York.
Little Earl was a very happy and content little Baby and was a Dream Child growing up. Ashley and Edward were blessed. He caused no grief to his Parents whatsoever.
As Earl grew into childhood and attended all the applicable public and High Schools on Long Island, his parents discovered he had a very inquisitive mind and a very active brain, and he loved academic subjects at school, but regretfully he had very little interests in Sports. Yes, he did what he needed to do to stay in good shape, spending hours in the gym, but there was no interest in competitive sports.
He was a relatively handsome and happy-go-lucky Kid and, he grew up into a handsome young man.
As his Father had been in the Building Industry, so Earl’s interests followed in the same areas. He chose to study to become an Architect, so he enrolled in the well-established School of Architecture at Yale University, north some ninety minutes by Train from New York.
Earl’s own Father had been a small-time Developer in New York, and he chose to remain small. His Father was not an ambitious Man and was quite happy living with his wife and young son in their comfortable home on Long Island. The house was not a Mansion, but it wasn’t small either. Yes, it was nice and comfortable and met all their needs.
So Earl grew up on Long Island and went to all the applicable schools and graduated out of High School with Honours. He participated in various sports, but they were not a priority for him.
He loved the Building Industry and the Business World of the High Flyers, so he decided to become an Architect, but he wanted the best education in his new field, so he considered Yale, Harvard, MIT and UCLA, ultimately selecting Yale, where he obtained his Undergraduate Degree in Architecture, but he was not satisfied with that, so he next tackled Postgraduate studies, a Yale Master’s Degree, also in Architecture.
Then at the same time, finding his courses relatively easy, he also took his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, dealing in Real Estate, from Harvard. Then over the next five years, he obtained his PHD in Business Administration, again specializing in Property Management and Real Estate Development.
However, once Earl joined his Father’s Firm, with all his degrees and his Doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard, he now put all his education into practice. His Father basically went into retirement. Yes, things changed very quickly as Earl took over the operations, and suddenly the word small was removed from the dictionary. Within several Years, the Small Developer became the Westgate Development Corporation, which quickly grew to become the National Wolverine Development Corporation. Earl was always one step ahead of his opposition.
Now, instead of Building for other and having these others cashing in on his expertise, he began to wheel and deal and buy vacate properties himself, designing the developments to the maximum allowed by the existing zoning bylaws.
Promising sites, he applied for the Rezoning of these properties to allow greater density on these sites, and his presentations were so professional that on most cases, he was granted approval for his Rezoning Applications. Suddenly he was now cashing in on these developments for himself. No longer was he building for others; now he was developing his own Properties and enjoying the financial rewards himself.
Yes, Earl had a brilliant Brain, and he utilized it to its limits, taking vacant land and turning it into new suburbs for the American Middle Class. He had the Midas touch, but it all came from his complete understanding of the Industry. Yes, the Westgate Corporation flourished beyond his own expectations.
Earl married Dawn Laine, his childhood sweetheart on Long Island, and after a year of marriage, they had a daughter, a beautiful little girl, Tasha Sherri Westgate, that both Dawn and Earl were so proud of.
In no time, he had become a Millionaire and, a few years later, a Multimillionaire. Now he was able to provide his Family a new Larger Mansion on Long Island, Luxury vacations on the Caribbean Islands, a Weekend Retreat right on the Coast on the small island of Bermuda, which was great. He was living out his Dream.
Regretfully after only eight years of married bliss together, Dawn succumbed to Cancer, when Tasha was only eight. Losing his loving Dawn really broke Earl’s Heart. He really felt like Fate had cheated him, so he immersed himself and buried his grief in his growing and expanding Business.
At a Social Gathering among friends, Earl then met and soon married the gorgeous Blonde, Alycia Nicole Winters, who really looked after Earl. Alycia adored little Tasha and virtually adopted her as her own daughter.
Now Earl had been happily married to his second wife, the feisty thirty-two-year-old Alycia Nicole Winters for over ten Years, and he also had a gorgeous eighteen-year-old daughter, Tasha Sherri Laine, a real live-wire brunette, from his first Marriage to Dawn Laine, who had passed away. Tasha, however was just like Alycia, her stepmother, and got along with her exceptionally well, so Tasha had happily agreed to live with her stepmother in their Beautiful Mansion on Long Island that Earl had as their Official Westgate Family Home.
When things got really busy, Earl himself lived in a huge Luxury Condo Tower. His suite took up the entire rooftop floor right in New York City, but not on Manhattan Island. He had built the Condo tower for himself on the East side of East River, which had a private Elevator to his floor right from his ground-level private secured Garage for his Ferrari sports car, which he seldom drove himself, and his Lincoln Continental Limousine. Most of the Time, however, he had his Lincoln Continental with a driver to take him around to his various Meetings, along with his now bodyguard, Jimmy, an Oriental Martial Arts expert.
Whenever he travelled out of town, Earl Westgate always travelled with his personal Secretary, a thirty-six-year-old spinster, Emily Dawn Watson, who took care of all his Travel arrangements and Business/Meeting commitments and much of his Personal Affairs as well. She was a real Tiger. She was all business and looked after Earl more like a Mother. Earl respected her totally and treated her as if she was his sister, but it was all Business. She knew more about Earl than he himself. Earl trusted her unequivocally.
So as Earl expanded his operations, he moved into the greater New York State, building vast Retreats/Lodges for his now Super Rich Friends from New York—the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, and others—in the Beautiful Adirondacks Mountains and Lakes, and the Thousand Islands in the Saint Lawrence River. These Super Rich Friends owned properties in New York City and had been so impressed by the work of Earl Westgate on their Holiday Lodges in the Adirondacks that when they wanted to develop these various Properties who did they call? Their friend, Earl James Westgate, obviously.
Then next he was opening new Offices in other states, buying existing Development and Construction Companies and adding them to his own Wolverine Development Corporation’s Portfolio. The Ball kept rolling until he had a National Development Corporation with major offices in the Major Cities and subsidiary Offices in the other smaller Cities.
With his increasing wealth, he began to look at overseas opportunities, like the Caribbean islands, the Hawaiian Islands, Canada, and eventually Europe. The World opened up for him as he began to explored new territories, new opportunities, new challenges.
Now all of a sudden, He and Emily were headed for Australia in their own Private Gulfstream Super Jet on an invitation by Australia’s Foremost Luxury Condo Projects Developer, the Mirvac Corporation, to investigate some new Development Opportunities initially in Sydney, Australia.
Chapter 1.02
The Wolverine International Development Corporation
Earl was a brilliant, crafty Businessman and had a Master’s degree from Yale in Architecture and a PHD in Business Administration from Harvard. Yes, he was very well educated, very intelligent, and needless to say, very astute. He also had become a natural Master of the Deal!
He had that uncanny ability to look at a Forest and see past the trees to what was on the other side.
Earl was very astute and took calculated risks, and to his Credit, he researched his options to the nth degree, so he made the right decisions each time. Consequently, he accumulated huge profits. By the time, he was Forty, he was married and a Father of a beautiful young Daughter. Financially he had already reached the status of a Billionaire and growing stronger every year, now with assets throughout the States, in Europe, the Caribbean Islands, the Hawaiian Islands, and Canada.
Also, by the time he was Forty, he had already employed, a long-time acquaintance, Emily Dawn Watson, a divorced spinster who was a brilliant Organizer with a Master’s in Business Administration, from Harvard as well. She’d become his personal Secretary, and she took control of his life and organized his Wolverine Empire all around the world.
Emily assumed the Title of Corporate Controller of the giant International Wolverine Development Corporation. Aside from Earl himself, She was the only one that Earl had taken into his business World, into his confidence. She knew everything that was going on in the Westgate World. It was as if she really was the Fourth Member of the Westgate Family, after Alycia, a gorgeous Blonde, his second wife, and Tasha, his equally gorgeous Brunette Daughter, who was attending Harvard to become a Veterinarian as she just loved animals.
Earl made the Deals, but Emily cemented the paperwork and details. She was brilliant and had a Photographic Mind.
In addition, with his success and subsequent wealth, he now felt like he needed a personal Body Guard to protect himself and Emily from the undesirables and opportunists whenever they travelled around. Every successful man invariably left a trail of Individuals behind who felt cheated by someone more astute, more comprehending of the situations, and hence more successful in the deals. Yes, Earl had made some enemies in Business in the past, but that was life, and that was the World of High Finance.
Earl never did anything Illegal, his Lawyers made sure of that, but with his Financial Wizardry, he was able to muscle in on deals where others just could not complete with him. Yes. there were those that did not like Earl Westgate.
So with some intense searching by Emily and himself, they’d found Jimmy, a Mongolian Martial Arts Specialist whose credentials were essentially excellent and his references impeccable.
So Jimmy Wong had joined the Wolverine Empire as Earl’s and Emily’s personal bodyguard.
Chapter 1.03
Vanessa Johnson/Jelena Jensen
Vanessa Johnson was the daughter of Harry and Nancy Johnson, a low-income couple that had immigrated over to America from Ireland, hoping for a better life, but regretfully that hadn’t happened for them. They had struggled hard, with both working to make ends meet, and that hadn’t been easy.
Without any real qualifications, Harry worked for Macy’s in their shipping and receiving department, and shortly after arriving in America, Nancy hade regretfully become ill and was unable to work for Health Reasons. They had a young daughter, a beautiful young child, and they did provide for her, even though they themselves had to do without. Yes, they loved their little girl.
Then tragedy struck. At the age of fifteen, Vanessa’s Mom passed away, so Harry was left to look after Vanessa himself. He did whatever he could for his gorgeous young daughter. As a teenager, Vanessa dated different boys but found that none were interested in her, only her body, and once Harry realized her Beauty really was a disadvantage, he introduced her to Mace, which Vanessa had to use on different occasions whenever the young men refused to accept the word NO. From then on, she always carried a container of pressurized Mace in her Handbag.
The Johnsons’ daughter, Vanessa, was a beautiful young gal and grew up to be a beautiful young lady, but due to limited funds, she was unable to go to college after she completed high school, so she ended up working for Macy’s as well, in their Ladies’ Clothing department at Minimum wage.
Then when she turned twenty-one, her Dad passed away, leaving her their small Condo, the only possession they had, and a little money, but not much else.
Yes, Vanessa lived alone in the small nondescript low-rise Condo that her deceased Parents had left for her. She had completed high school and now drifted from one part-time job to another.
After auditioning almost daily for endless parts in the Broadway Plays and Musicals, regretfully she was always passed up. Yes, she was extremely beautiful, which they always acknowledged, but the problem was, she just wasn’t a dancer. Irrespective, she was persistent and kept on trying and kept on looking, but without any success.
Being so beautiful was also a disadvantage as the young men that dated her were only after one thing, and that obviously was passionate sex. Yes, she loved sex, but she preferred it with someone that cared for her, but at this point, she hadn’t found that particular young man as yet.
Life was not easy for Vanessa.
Then she heard about Santana’s Place, a Nightclub that was looking for Girls, so she decided to go there, as it was pretty close to where she lived, to see if there was anything that would interest her. She was not a Hooker, so any job that required her to participate in sexual activities she just wasn’t interested in.
She dropped by the Nightclub to see what the role of the Girls was supposed to be at Santana Place. There, she met with Julio Santana, the Nightclub Owner himself.
Look, Miss, I am not a Pimp, but I do own this here Nightclub, and I employ beautiful young ladies like yourself whose job is to basically entice our Clients to treat them and the other Girls to drinks, so your role is simply to keep them company and to dance with them, if they want to dance. There is no sex involved! Regretfully there are many Businessmen and travelling Salesmen that are stuck in town for a period of time knowing no one, so we provide them with some company—good-looking Company, but no sex.
Good, you see, Mister, I am not a Hooker. My body is Not for Sale!
"That’s Fine, Miss, all you need to do is to encourage the men to buy more drinks. That’s where we make our Money. The longer the Customers are there buying drinks, so they can dance with you in a respectful manner, the more money we make. If anyone starts to manhandle you or tries to grope you, they will be immediately thrown out of the Club, so you needn’t worry about that.
"If they want sex, there are plenty of Pimps around out there to give them what they want. We don’t provide sex, only company and some dancing, and as I already said, the Longer the Customer is here and the more often he buys you drinks, the more money we make.
If anyone suggests or insists on sex, we just ask them to leave. Like I said, we are not selling Sex. However, if you change your mind and find someone that you want to have sex with, that obviously is your prerogative, your choice completely. We have nothing to do with that, but I do have a nice luxury Condo suite close by that you would be obligated to use, and only if you wanted to, and it is free. If there is any money exchanged, that is totally up to you, or if you want to have sex for free, that is also up to you.
So based on the fact that there was no sex involved, she took the Job, five days a week, six to Midnight.
What’s Your Name, Miss?
Vanessa Johnson.
Listen, to make you sound much sexier, we’ll change your name to, let’s say, Jelena Jensen. Any problems with that?
Jelena Jensen, Yeah, that’s Fine, Mr. Santana,
responded Vanessa.
You work six to twelve. That’s six hours through the week, five days a week, thirty hours a week, and I pay you $500.
What Julio didn’t mention was that he saw the extreme beauty and the potential in Jelena, and he knew
