    Yet we esteemed Him stricken,

The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

    Foreword

Many books on healing and health are available today in bookstores and on the Internet. We can all learn so much from these ministers, doctors, and laymen. How truly blessed we are to have so much information available to help get our bodies well and keep them well! I believe that God is revealing His wisdom on these subjects more than ever before.

We know that when we belong to Jesus, our bodies are His temples (Acts 17:24; II Corinthians 6:16), and we are the caretakers of our bodies. The Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 10:31 (NASB), Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God. This God-given job of maintaining our temples has many facets. We should pay attention to the natural elements that God has put here on the earth for our benefit, and that can help us live long, productive lives. We can add vitamins, minerals, and supplements to the healthy food we eat; drink plenty of water; practice appropriate exercise, and get adequate rest and sleep. Just as natural truths add to our bodies, there are spiritual truths that add to our spirits. We should always maintain our spirits by prayer, Bible study, speaking God’s Word, and obedience to His Spirit.

The subject of this book is healing from the Word of God, the scriptures themselves. After all, if you want to find out about a subject, the best way to do so is to go right to the source. My own study began over forty-five years ago, before my first child was born. Through Bible study and prayer, the Holy Spirit led me to see that God wants all of His children well and that Jesus is just as wonderful a Healer today as when He walked on this earth (Hebrews 13:8). With my Bible and a Strong’s Concordance, I wrote down all the scriptures on healing that I could find. I added them to my list over the years, and this book is a result of my study. I encourage you to add to the list through your own study of the Word of God.

This book lays out God’s plan for our healing from Genesis through the Revelation. You will see God’s dealings with man, His attitude toward healing, man’s attitude, the consequences of sin, the methods of healing, and how to hold on to that healing. With all these healing scriptures in one place, it will be apparent that God has always been dealing with His people on the subject of healing. Reading these scriptures one by one reveals that His will is divine health and healing for every one of us. We can apply these truths to our lives through faith in His Word. In fact, we know that healing is His will because Paul wrote in Hebrews 1:3 that Jesus is the express image of [God’s] person, and while He was here on earth, He healed the sick wherever he was received. So, the evidence is overwhelming that this is His heart and His will for us.

Healing Scriptures is a compilation of healing and related scriptures throughout the Old and New Testaments. We believe this arrangement will be easy to use for people of all ages and faiths. In addition, you can write notes and prayers in the notes sections as you study the words of the Bible. Let me encourage you to write in this book your personal revelations of health and healing as the Holy Spirit leads you. Date them, and make this a book of victory that you can use for years to come. Remember to always approach God’s Word in a prayerful and reverent manner, letting the Holy Spirit guide you in your studies. Be diligent and build your understanding one scripture at a time. Receive what belongs to you by believing in your heart and speaking God’s Word with your mouth. Healing belongs to us as members of the body of Christ.

Keep in mind that we do have an enemy—the devil. He may constantly try to stop God’s plans and purposes for your life, but Jesus has already defeated him and put all enemies under His feet (I Corinthians 15:25, 26). Furthermore, we enforce that defeat every day because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of [our] testimony (Revelation 12:11, NASB). The good news is that we are not alone in our walk with God as we come against the forces opposing us. Angels protect and help us in our battles, and the Holy Spirit leads us into victory (Psalm 91:11–12; Psalm 103:20; Psalm 104:4; Hebrews 1:4, 5, 13, 14).

I generally read from the King James Version (KJV), which was published in 1611 and translated mainly from the original texts. The beauty of the language touches my heart and makes each verse memorable. Other translations may not be from the original texts but are written so that they are easier to understand. In this book, all Old Testament selections, including the psalms and proverbs, are from the New King James Version (NKJV), an updated translation of the KJV, for easier reading while keeping with the historical tone and context of the Old Testament. The New Testament selections are provided in two modern word-for-word translations, the New American Standard Bible (NASB) for the gospels and the English Standard Version (ESV) for the epistles. Both of these translations are recognized for their excellence in adding both clarity and accessibility to the Word of the Lord, particularly for your use in personal confessions of healing.

As you read these selections, you may notice that some words, phrases, or even whole scriptures you recall from other translations are missing or changed. In your own studies, we encourage you to find the translation that speaks to you, making note of its authenticity, and become familiar with your own Bible.

So, are you ready to begin? Get a pen or pencil, your Bible, and a comfortable place to sit. A Strong’s Concordance, in print or online, is wonderful for Bible study because
