About this ebook

Elizabeth Bennet felt as if the world was collapsing around her...

A mere month after mother leaves for an adventure in India with newly married Charles and Jane, Mr. Bennet falls gravely ill. As she is the only daughter left living in Longbourn, Elizabeth Bennet is tasked with caring for him, something she does without question. But alone in her home with only her beloved father and their housekeeper, Elizabeth can not help but feel she is not capable of doing this on her own. How will she manage without the help of her family?

Fitzwilliam Darcy made a promise... and he intends to keep it.

Fitzwilliam Darcy is on his way to Netherfield for a holiday in the country. However, not far from Netherfield, his coach drives through a massive hole in the road and two of the wheels break into pieces. It just so happens that the accident occurs in front of Longbourn, the Bennet family's home. When he stops to ask for assistance, he discovers an overwhelmed Elizabeth Bennet, caring for her ailing father all on her own. Without a second thought, he agrees to send for his personal doctor from home and stay with her until he arrives. However, it does not take long before their time together caring for Mr. Bennet invites proof that their first impressions of one another might have been wrong...

Can two former enemies find a path to love as tragedy looms on the horizon?

Truly wonder how familiar author is with the story of P&P! Or even the general locations in the original story. For instance, LAMBTON and PEMBERLEY are a three day journey from Longbourn, if his coachman is going there to collect his personal things and a doctor and then returning then ten days is not an unexpectedly long wait. Unless it was supposed to be to LONDON, which would've been a journey of several hours one-way and then yes a ten-day delay would be worrisome. There should've been more servants than just Mrs Hill at the least, but no explanation given for why just Elizabeth and the housekeeper; if we are supposed to infer they left because of Mr Bennet's illness than the inference is poorly done because it is made to seem as though Mrs Hill has been the only servant ever. I have other issues with the story, but I could rant on them for longer than it took to read this short story.
Not really worth reading but at least it didn't take much more than 20 minutes to do so. I really wouldn't recommend this.

CHAPTER 1

ELIZABETH

L izzy! Lizzy, darling, I need you!

Elizabeth Bennet stood in the drawing room of Longbourn and leaned against the fireplace with a sigh. The sound of her father’s voice calling out to her had become more familiar than the sound of her own heart beating. She knew she should go to him, but she was so tired. It had been two days since she last slept and her back was sore from sitting by her father’s bedside all night long.

Three weeks ago, her mother left for an exciting holiday in India with Charles and Jane, gone for months to explore a country she never imagined she would see. Seven days after her departure, Mr. Bennet began to complain of a sore throat and an ache in his head.

By the time the rash came, their housekeeper, Mrs. Hill already suspected scarlet fever.

The doctor came and did what he could, but now it was just a matter of waiting for him to get well… if he ever did. With Jane and her mother gone, and all her sisters married and spread out all over England, only Elizabeth was left to care for him. She adored her father and wished to do all for him that she could, but there never seemed to be an end to his needs. And despite the doctor’s promise that he would improve, Mr. Bennet only appeared to be getting worse.

Miss Elizabeth? Your father is calling for you.

Elizabeth turned around to find Mrs. Hill standing in the doorway. She looked just as tired as Elizabeth felt.

I will be there in a moment, Mrs. Hill. It is time for papa’s honey and borax mixture. Can you see that he gets it? Then you should get some sleep. I will tend to him tonight.

Mrs. Hill appeared as if she wished to argue but did not have the will to do so.

Are you sure, Miss Elizabeth? You have not slept more than an hour or two in days. If you continue on like this, you will be sick next.

She shook her head and sat in the chair nearest the fireplace.

I am well enough. I only need a few moments to close my eyes. Mrs. Hill, have we received a letter from Mary or Kitty? I wrote to them both weeks ago.

No, I am sorry, Miss.

Mary was living in Scotland with her husband and Kitty moved to Brighton with a young soldier she married over the summer. No one was sure where Lydia was living with her husband until they received a letter, and it came from a different location every time. Elizabeth hoped one of them would receive her plea for assistance and return to Longbourn, but thus far, neither had arrived.

Thank you, Mrs. Hill. I am grateful for all your help.

The housekeeper nodded and left to tend to Mr. Bennet, leaving Elizabeth to stare into the fire and drift in and out of sleep. She had never been this tired before in her entire life. She did not know how her mother tended to all five of her daughters when they would fall ill, though Mrs. Bennet did have a measure of help.

Elizabeth was overwhelmed, tired all of the time, and
