About this ebook

Some of these poems are inspired by places I have visited and people I have met along the way. Other poems describe my own perosnal victories and struggles. I find that the more personal ones have been the hardest to write but I have included some in this book.

I live in Porirua, New Zealand and work in another city as an electronic technician. I have enjoyed rhyming poetry since I was a young boy when my mum used to recite rhyming poetry to me that she had learned at school. I enjoy walking and running on all the seaside and bush trails here in Porirua and the surrounding cities. My favourite place to run is on the beach which thankfully New Zealand has plenty of. I belong to the Aurora Harrier club and have also joined a horticultural society with the aim of being an amazing gardener like my mum and dad were - I have a long way to go but I enjoy it none-the-less.

    Love

    Long Ago

In a time long since of forgotten lore

where I met a friend, sweet Eleanor.

Past blacksmith and stable did we run,

through meadows of violet in the noonday sun.

The landscape moves with a purple glow,

over rolling hills its cape does flow.

We skipped and ran through infinite days,

by fields and valleys of coloured haze.

Our feet were tickled by the grass so soft

and we played up in my uncle's old loft.

Our pitchforks were loaded with fresh new hay,

close by my side did sweet Eleanor stay.

By the garden well sat my Aunt Clementine,

singing of the harvest and newly pressed wine.

We did stop and ponder the reasons why

life was so long and awaited her reply.

Said Aunt Clementine, "it's not as it may seem,

one day like me it will all be a dream.

As you get older much quicker does it flow,

the less time you've got but more you know.

Your life is a breeze but hold it tight,

play the lark all day and all of the night."

So we loved and laughed recalling our town,

and lived longer than springs radiant gown.

    Companions

    Frozen earth and clouded heath,

    hides its dwellers far beneath.

    Through treetop canopy is sighted

a foxtrot of pansies are delighted.

    Rolling fog does now reveal,

    beauties vision here to feel

    a companions warmth beside.

    Closer now does she ride.

    Past the flowing crystal stream,

    reflected angel from a dream.

    Autumn leaves twinkle down,

    golden stars
