SARAH SAVES THE WORLD
CHAPTER 1: SARAH RAINES AND ANNE KUROSAWA
Racing down The Belle Of Houston Hotel hall, the eighteen-year-old concierge-extraordinaire, Sarah Raines slows down, waiting on her best friend. She begins tapping her foot on the plush, hotel carpet, Sarah looks back and calls out in a classic Texas drawl,
Anne honey, you know we’ll be late for your party? Let’s get a move on.
Then, shaking her head, Sarah is whispering to herself, I’ll tell ya’ what, girl."
Anne Kurosawa stumbles up behind Sarah and responds in her Washington, DC. lingo. Yes, I’m new to Texas. Not quite transplanted. Sarah, slow down, will ya! These shoes, I’m swimming in these things...but, you knew that, right...Ouch?
In the midst of her accusation, Anne falls out of a shoe, twists her ankle and stumbles toward her friend, hoping not to fall. As she lunges for Sarah she finds only air. Face first on the short plush, burgundy carpet, Anne settles down in temporary relief.
Thank god nothing’s broken.
Sarah stares down at her friend. Ann meanwhile has begun to inspect that carpet, up close and very personal. After a brief moment she smells some weird industrial disinfectant. Then she notices hundreds of tiny dirt particles. Suddenly, the particles appear to be moving, at least one of them. Anna spies a tiny little bug moving just in front of her nose. In a flash she springs to her feet, one shoe on and one off, spewing out a dark, grainy substance she just inhaled.
OH MY GOD! Phew! Pfft! Sarah!? Pfft! How could you!? Pfft!
Finally, spitting the last of the dirt out, she turns to her best friend. "And You, the fashion darling of Sam Houston High, and all that other bull! You need a life! Come on, Sarah? What exactly am I doing in these clothes? I’ve always thought of you as smarter than the average girl at Sam Houston."
Sarah responds meekly, Yeah, you’re right.
Sarah is smart. She’s done really well in high school. A’s and high B’s in all her classes. She’s especially proud of her straight A’s in all her fashion classes for four straight years. That’s why her bestie, Anne, has become her most recent fashion project.
That’s how Anne got into shoes that don’t quite fit. Yes, she is more determined than ever that Anne will be fashionably presentable, even fashion forward. Especially now that she’s a part of the team here at the hotel. No longer will Anne wear those old jeans, work shirts, and sneakers, Her current daily uniform. Nope, not anymore. Not here at The Sam Houston. Henceforth she will start dressing as a hip, fashion forward young woman should, with a knock 'em dead outfit to match all occasions. And today is as good as any to introduce Anne to her new interview suit. And, since Sarah didn’t get a chance to show the full outfit to Anne they are running late and find themselves in this funny, smelly hallway. And if Sarah isn’t able to intervene, you can bet when they get home, Anne will want to head straight for her computer like she always does. Check on some nerdy science project and immediately dress down into those jeans, sneakers and work shirts. Maybe, when Sarah gets back to her home, Sarah audibly gasps: I mean Anne’s home. Anne takes Sarah's chin and pulls it towards her own.
Where are you sister? You're a world away for almost 5 minutes, I thought we were in some kind of hurry, and that ‘gasp’; Are you alright?
Just thinking about home,
Sarah sniffles, "and what’s
