Excellent story -- like the art, like the arc, like the characters. An imaginative universe, but what is up with the Robots? Man, they are weird.

I remember reading this and just not vibing with it originally. Cut to a couple of years later, and a buddy convinces me to try it again, and I was HOOKED. Cut to several years later yet again, and re-reading the entire series in anticipation of the release of the very long overdue next issue in the series after hiatus, and damn this story still holds up. I don't know

Wow. Another fast paced, hard hitting volume. My head is all over the places because I never know how to cheer for.

It was okay. So far I'm still iffy on this series. The character designs, clothing, personalities, etc have a lot to be desired. No one is really likeable. And honestly the nudity adds nothing to the series. It's just there for people to whack off to or for the shock. For me, if it serves no point then there is no point. It's just... pointless perversion. Reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones in this way. I do not see the series letting up on it so we'll see how long I can put up with. I have continued thus far because it has made me laugh a few times I guess.

If Saga were published as one large tome instead of multiple volumes, I doubt I'd be nope-ing out at this point but here we are. Too much violence for my current mental state and volume 4 will not get a chance to impress.

It continues to impress. The page where the child and former sex worker is talking to the lie detector cat while stranded on the evil hallucinations planet (I know, this comic is just as crazy as that makes it sound) was so beautiful it made me tear up. I've been doing a project of checking out the first volume(s) of a bunch of different graphic novel series this year, and while many of them have been really, really good, "Saga" is ending up the winner (possibly tied with "Blacksad") that I will have to prioritise finishing first.

    I love this series.

All sides and characters converge in an excitingly heavy volume, both in terms of plot and character development.

I writing the same review for all the Saga Volumes that I read since fundamentally it is one long story just broken up in multiple volumes.

This is what a graphic novel can be when it is combined with singular vision and style. There can be strengths in multiple people (writers, artists, producers) being involved in a long comics cycle, but not changing all the time can lead to an even better experience--if it is a good vision. Fortunately Saga follows through with something that feels both epic and personal at the same time. Weird but relatable. Well worth the read.

Having traveled across the galaxy to meet with their favorite author, Alana and Marko hide out briefly in his lighthouse. Meanwhile, Gwen and the Will are stranded on a lush but remote planet waiting for their ship to be repaired. Unbeknownst to them, the plants on this planet are infused with a hallucinogenic that pits them against each other. Slave Girl attacks the Will and nearly kills him. Now Gwen is chasing down Marko hoping for a healing spell. All groups collide at the lighthouse for a bloody showdown.

This series just gets better and better for me. I like how Alana and Marko try to find the author of their favorite book, D. Oswald Heist. It is also great to see The Will's growing relationship with Sophie, and the budding family unit he is making with Sophie and Gwendolyn. Also, those cyborgs with the televisions for heads. Crazy!

Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga, Volume Three collects issues no. 13-18 of the titular series. Picking up after Volume Two, Marko, Alana, and their party finally make it to the planet where author D. Oswald Heist resides. Once there, they must plan what next to do with their lives. Meanwhile, The Will and Gwendolyn are trapped on a planet with the slave girl they rescued awaiting a repair service to fix The Will’s ship. While the planet seems to be a paradise, all is not as it seems. Tabloid reporters Upsher and Doff are investigating Marko and Alana, interviewing past comrades, family, and even Alana’s former commander, Countess Robot X. Amid discussions about the types of media that exist in the world of Saga, including board games, children’s books, and an interactive networked television called the Circuit, Prince Robot IV makes his way to Heist’s lighthouse. Unbeknownst to him, Gwendolyn is bringing The Will there, too, since she needs Marko’s healing abilities. The end result is modern space opera of the best sort, with Staples’ art gorgeously filling out the world and characters Vaughan describes. Some of the best comicbook writing currently available.

Action packed, great characters, compelling plot - Saga Vol. 3 is just as good as the two that came before. Onto #4!

I'm spacing these collected volumes out which means each time a pick up a new one I have to go back and read everything that's gone before to bring myself up to date. I'm not complaining. This third volume brings to a close all the opening threads of Saga and there's still enough going on to justify the crazily ambitious title. This is a masterclass in plotting, pacing and pathos. A continuing delight.

I love this series. So imaginative, a space opera in graphic novel format featuring alien humanoid species in an intergalactic war, with a couple at the heart of it all who have fallen in love and made a mixed species baby and must be on the run or risk death or other unthinkable fates. I can’t imagine enjoying this kind of story in a non-visual medium, and the visuals are stunning. Really well written too. Super addictive stuff and I’m glad I’m less than halfway through the ongoing series and still have plenty of Saga enjoyment ahead of me.

There's a war going on, among alien races, and two of our principal characters are soldiers for opposing sides who fell in love, had a baby, and took off to raise their child together. There's technology, robots and space ships, here, except that one of the spaceships at least is a tree, and people talk about healing spells, not medication or surgery.

It's the third book in the series, so a lot of the background is just assumed. I have no idea what the war is about, or if Wreathians and Landfallians just hate each other. It's confusing and left me frustrated.

Despite that, I got to like Marko (the Wreathian) and Alana (the Landfallian), as well as some other characters. The artwork is lovely and, honestly, held me until I started to get caught up in the characters.

In the end, though, I think too much of the background needed for the story to make sense is just not here. It's likely in the two earlier volumes, but it's not here in Volume 3, which is what I'm being asked to judge. I suspect I would like this a good deal better if I'd read the earlier volumes. As is, though? Art, very nice. Story, meh.

I received this as part of the Hugo Voters' packet.

I'll start with my favorite line of the TPB,when Alana walks into D. Oswald Heist's house and says 'Bookgasm'. It's that sorta humor that makes this title so awesome. In this TPB Alana, Marko, Hazel, and Marko's mom finally find the author. I'm still not entirely sure where D. Oswald Heist exactly fits into the story, but, his was a super cool character. We also have a nice subplot about The Will, Gwen, Lying Cat, and Slave Girl. Who also gets a name in this one. And we meet The Brand, and I sorta found I liked The Brand, The Will, Gwen, and Slave Girl, and their story grew on me.It's still one of my favorite non-capes comic titles for sure, up there with Lazarus and really, the next TPB can't come out soon enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed this volume more than the previous two.

I'm loving the development of the story and how it's progressing. I like the new characters and how they're introduced, and I'm really intrigued by the whole thing and wanna know more about this story!

I really hope The Will gets better! (yes I know he's after Hazel and her parents but still! I like him.)

    Baby Hazel started walking aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

So this is only the third comic series I've gotten into...no, fourth, but that's just my way of saying I've only gotten into comics over the last few years. Comic Con probably had something to do with that. Went for the celebrity panels, kept going back for the comics, lol!Anyway, I. Love. This. Series. It's really hard for me to review. The story is fun, the art is beautiful, the characters, even the antagonists, are so likeable. Just A+ for the whole thing. I just have one thing to say. If anything really bad happens to Lying Cat... I will be one pissed bee! And see, I kept it classy by using harsh letters

Alana, Marko, their newborn daughter and co. are still being pursued across the galaxy by representatives of different sides in an intergalactic war. Continuing with the theme of family in this volume: a couple of journalists investigating Alana and Marko’s disappearance interview someone from Alana’s family and later are threatened by someone who turns out to be related to another character; a found-family dynamic begins to emerge around one of the pursuers; the other pursuer tries to phones home to talk to his pregnant wife; and our main gang seek shelter with someone whose perspective has been deeply shaped by the family he has lost.I enjoyed this volume. I liked the moments where a character made a choice or revealed a motivation which I wasn’t expecting - and yet, upon reflection, was in keeping with my previous understanding of that character. Not some dramatic twist, just rich characterisation. There were dramatic twists too, and funny moments, and lovely moments, and heartbreaking ones (AHHH, STOP HURTING CHARACTERS I LIKE), and the sort of weirdness I know to expect from Saga. I’m still super invested in the characters - and still super worried something really awful will happen that will just ruin everything. I know I’ve come to the wrong story if I want everyone to be okay, but I just want everyone to be okay, okay?Anyway, my favourite scenes were the ones with Alana, Marko and co. just hanging out on Quietus, and Sophie’s interactions with Lying Cat.I read an old interview with Vaughan, in which the interviewer asked him about the “picture-book quality” to some of the narration and his response was “I’ve been reading a ton of children’s books since my kids were born, and I love the way text in those stories sometimes playfully interacts with images. Felt like a cool device to steal”. I was interested that it was a conscious style choice, and it’s probably another reason why Saga appeals to me. I really like picture books. Some parents let their young kids win at games, but mine never did. I don’t think it was because they were particularly competitive, they just wanted to teach me a valuable lesson. Life is mostly just learning how to lose.

THIS IS SO GOOD. And weird, and profound, and what-the-hell, and awesome. Okay, listen. There are flying sharks, walrus oxen, psycho ex-girlfriend Gwendolyn suddenly gets almost likable, the opposite of war, a parasite that alters its victim's brain chemistry to trick them into joining the local ecosystem, seahorse businessmen... Not to mention continuing metaphors about what it takes to make a family, raise a child.

A roller coaster of fantasticness. Get your tickets now.

This was another amazing volume in the Saga graphic novel series. I am reading these in trade paperback and really enjoying them a lot. This volume was especially intense and I devoured it in one sitting and loved every minute of it.I have really enjoyed the characters, the action, the unique settings, and the story in this series. This installment in the series is both strangely domestic and has the highest body count yet. The illustration is well done in full color and very easy to follow. The characters are just amazing. I love all the crazy aliens we run into along with both the heartwarming and hilarious moments. Vaughan does such a great job of making the crazy characters in this sci-fi world seem totally plausible and human. I love it!Overall this was another amazing installment in the Saga series. I just can’t get enough of this series! The characters, the worlds, the story...all of it is absolutely amazing, engaging, hilarious, and strangely heartwarming.
