The curse, as I thought of it, began in childhood. For many years, as far back as elementary school, I felt that I had to be on a diet. I didn’t think there was even a choice. To me, this was just a fact. As I got older, the feeling I had was that of being chained to dieting. I certainly felt shackled, that I had no choice in or freedom from this pursuit of the perfect diet. I didn’t like dieting and was much happier when I was not on a diet, free to eat all the yummy stuff that I really wanted, but it never occurred to me that it didn’t have to be this way.
