Innocent Hunter - Bria Lexor
ONE
ALESTI
It was raining hard. I was soaked to the bone as they hauled me into the Hunter’s Administration HQ. A male Hunter pulled open the glass door and roughly shoved me inside. Move it, you filthy vampire!
he growled as he grabbed me roughly by the arm and started dragging me up the long hallway. Curious Hunters watched as I passed by them. I didn’t care. I was drop dead gorgeous for being a vampire. And they knew a hot chick when they saw one. The man stopped in front of a closed door and rapped on it.
Come in!
A male voice spoke loudly from the other side. The man opened the door and shoved me roughly inside the room before entering and closing the door behind him.
Pardon the intrusion, sir,
he spoke as he quickly saluted the man. I found this vampire wandering around the Acadia Academy grounds.
Then why didn’t you just exterminate her?
Bancroft scoffed.
I was going to, sir,
the Hunter protested. But she has the crest of the royals on her cloak.
He grabbed my head and pressed it downwards, revealing the crest on the front of the black hood.
So, she does,
Bancroft spoke unable to hide the surprise in his voice. I know who all the royals are,
he paused. I don’t recognize this girl?
Just then, the door opened, and someone entered the room, closing it behind them.
What the hell is she doing here?
A failure male voice demanded. I knew who it was. I didn’t have to turn around to see his face. It was Blake Lumex. My ex-Guardian.
You know this girl, Blake?
Bancroft asked. She wears the crest of the royals from the Light Region on the hood of her cloak.
Sir,
Blake spoke cautiously as he walked over to my right side. I glanced at him out of my peripheral vision, but stayed silent. She is the most important royal out of them all.
Tell me who she is, or I will kill her!
Bancroft screamed in fury as he pulled out a gun from the drawer in his wooden desk. He cocked the chamber and aimed it at my forehead.
STOP!
Blake screamed with panic in his voice as he shielded me with his body. He pulled me tightly into his arms and turned his back towards Bancroft. His metal wings would make the bullet ricochet off of them and hit some other target that wasn’t me.
I am Princess Alesti Winchester,
I spoke with power in my voice. You already know who my parents are.
It took a moment for it to register in Bancroft’s head. But when it did, he was confused.
You are Exley and Elisa’s daughter?
he asked. I nodded curtly. But you were just born a few weeks ago?
I aged quickly,
I shrugged. I don’t know how or why, but I did.
With all due respect, sir,
Blake spoke. I would like to volunteer to become the Guardian of the princess.
Why you?
the Hunter asked. Any of us can do the job.
Maybe so,
Blake scoffed. But she is a vampire... and I will keep her away from the royals in both the Dark and the Light Regions.
Very well, Blake,
Bancroft nodded curtly. You are the Gardian of the princess.
ALESTI
I screamed in pain as I grabbed onto my head. It felt like it was going to explode. I wasn’t sure how much more I could handle.
You had another vision, didn’t you, Alesti?
Cade asked as he entered my bedroom.
Yes,
I spoke in a quivering voice. It was more real this time.
Your mother has visions as well,
he spoke as he sat down on the edge of the bed beside me. I was staying in his house on the Acadia Academy grounds. I was the only vampire here, of course. He had sent all the student’s home for the rest of the year. He couldn’t tell them why. To keep them safe, he had to lie to them.
"I hope you will adjust to
