When I open my door, I'm immediately blinded by what must be a dozen cameras.

"Olivia Liu, how long have you known the king of Ceannia?" a woman shouts.

"Uh, what?" I shield my eyes from the relentless flashing cameras. I gawk at the news vans on the street. What the hell is going on? "I've never even heard of Ceannia."

"But you were seen leaving the king's hotel room last night."

I blanch. "I have no idea what you're talking about," I say. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get my mail..."

However, I never reach my mailbox. Because as soon as I take a step, Alistair Last-Name-Still-Unknown is standing in front of me.

I WAKE UP, FEELING lonely in my twin-size bed.

My skin tingles as I remember last night. Under normal circumstances, I avoid nightclubs like they’re the plague, but my friend Josie insisted on dragging me to a club called Liquid Paradise because she thought it would help me get my mind off my ex-boyfriend Lin, who I’d recently discovered had been cheating on me with several sorority girls.

Josie ended up being right because I met a handsome stranger named Alistair. Like, he was really handsome. My ex is attractive, but Alistair made Lin seem like a homely dork in comparison with his chiseled everything and deep voice like dark chocolate.

Under normal circumstances, I would never go somewhere with a guy I just met. That just seems like a recipe for getting murdered at the age of 22.

But Alistair was just so damn handsome, and Lin — who, at one point, I thought would maybe become my husband — had broken my heart.

So when Alistair asked me to go to his hotel with him, I agreed, though I didn’t even get around to learning his last name.

In addition to being ridiculously good-looking, Alistair turned out to be filthy rich. He took me to the Violet Deer. A regular room at the hotel costs upwards of $1,000
