About this ebook

The man turns around, and my eyes bulge out of their sockets. He says, "Raven?" at the same time I say, "Ian?!"

I'm staring at Ian Reyes, aka Aimee's stepbrother, though he's old enough to be her dad. Aimee's stepfather–Ian's dad–is old enough to be her grandfather. When her mom was first dating him, Aimee would call him "the ancient one."

Like always, my heart beats a little faster in Ian's presence. For a while, I had–okay, fine, still have–a crush on him, which of course, is something I haven't told Aimee. I'm not totally sure about the rules of lusting after your friend's stepbrother, but I'm fairly certain they're similar to the rules of lusting after your friend's brother.

When I manage to tear myself away from taking Buzzfeed quizzes and watching unhealthy amounts of TV, I write romance and smut. My works feature alpha males, sexy times, and/or my sarcastic sense of humor. I hail from Cleveland, aka the best freaking city in the world, and believe LeBron James is the perfect human being. Despite all of my efforts, I have never truly been able to quit caffeine. My favorites include Taylor Swift, Florence + the Machine, and SHINee. I love to hate/hate to love k-dramas. If I say I’m on a diet, I’m just lying to you and myself. One of these days, I'm going to get hypertension from an excess of salt, both literal and figurative. If I'm awkward around you, I probably don't know what to say to you and/or I think you're hot. And despite what anyone says, Forrest Gump so deserved that Oscar over Pulp Fiction.

    My Best Friend's Stepbrother

AIMEE WIDENS HER EYES when I tell the bartender, Another gin and tonic, please.

Um, Raven, I don't mean to sound judgmental, but isn't that, like, your fourth gin and tonic? my friend asks.

    I think it's my third, I say.

It's your fifth, Sam, the bartender, says gruffly.

I tap my empty glass. Aren't you going to give me a refill?

Sam shakes his head. I'm cutting you off.

What?! But I'm nowhere near drunk, I protest.

Uh-huh, you're practically the portrait of sobriety, he says dryly. So sober that you thought your fifth drink was your third.

Hey, counting is hard, I say.

Aimee shakes her head. That's such a weak defense.

Sam says to Aimee, Make sure your friend gets home safe, okay?

Don't worry, Sam. I'm driving her back to my place.

I'm perfectly fine! I exclaim. Come on, give me another gin and tonic.

Tell you what, I can make you a gin and tonic minus the gin, Sam says.

    Oh, screw you, I say.

Screw you too, he says lightly. To Aimee: Make sure nothing bad happens to your friend, okay?

Before I can insist on another gin and tonic with the gin, Sam walks away to serve other customers.

    Asshole, I mutter.

My friend lays a hand on my shoulder. We're only looking out for your liver, girl.

I sigh. In spite of the
