I SWALLOW THE LUMP of anxiety in my throat as the elevator doors start to close.

I’m standing inside the Violet Deer, a luxurious hotel that threatens to break out my commoner ass in hives. I hear it costs upwards of one thousand dollars to stay here for one night, and that’s for a regular room.

When the doors open up to the 11th floor, I’m tempted to stay inside the elevator and go back down to the lobby.

But I take a deep breath and drag myself out into the hallway.

Nausea creeps into my belly as I head toward room 1156. In room 1156, I will meet Mr. G, the stranger who paid a million dollars for my virginity.

I blink rapidly, trying to keep tears from blurring my vision. I always thought that my first time would be with someone I love. And I always thought that my dad was a good guy who would never ever put his family’s livelihood at risk.
