Chapter 1: Becoming
As Mallory left the airport she waited at the bench for her aunts. Her parents had died in a car crash one month ago and ever since Mallory has been living with her mum’s friend until she found out she had aunts in London. Mallory opened her journal and started to write in it until she saw her aunts standing in front of her. ‘’Hello Mallory! I am Aunt Anabelle, and this is my sister, Dorothy.’’
Aunt Anabelle said as Mallory smiled at the two of them. Aunt Anabelle wore a red dress with black flats, a gold bracelet, and had short ginger hair and green eyes. Aunt Dorothy had a white dress with brown boots, a gold necklace, brown eyes, and brown medium length hair. Mallory had just put on a blue dress with her signature black boots and rainbow hairclips. Her hair was long and brown. ‘’We can’t wait to show you to the bakery! We gave you your mother’s old room when she lived with us. Now let’s get you out of here.’’ Aunt Dorothy said as she took Mallory and Aunt Anabelle to the house with their new silver car. Mallory sighed and looked out the window as Aunt Anabelle looked back. ‘’Are you okay Mallory? You seem kind of down.’’
She said. ‘’I’m fine.’’ Mallory responds as the three continue the ride to the new house. When the family got to the house Mallory gasped at the sight. The house was big and blue with fresh glass windows and a huge sign that said, Beck’s! ‘’Nice house.’’ Mallory said as she went inside and looked around the bakery. ‘’Where do we live?’’ She asked. ‘’Upstairs. Let me show you.’’ Dorothy said as she walked with Mallory upstairs and opened Mallory’s room door that had a big brown box in the middle.
‘’What’s the box for?’’ Mallory asked. ‘’It is your mum’s things that she left in the storage from her teenage days. You can open it if you like. I must go help Anabelle.’’ Dorothy said as Mallory looked at the box and opened it to see lots of pictures and clothes. The box had pictures of Mallory’s mum and it had fancy dresses and skirts. But the thing that caught Mallory’s eyes was a purple necklace. ‘’This is so pretty.’’ She said as she put it on her neck and shoved the box into her closet.
‘’Where to start first?’’ Mallory asked herself as she looked around the room. She decided to put the clothes in her closet first and then move on to the bed. When Mallory finished her room up, she laid on her bed and crossed her legs. ‘’Home sweet home.’’ Mallory picked up a picture and looked at her parents faces. ‘’I wish you were here now.’’ Mallory said as she put the picture down. Mallory opened her window and looked at the trains and she sighed and saw somebody walking up to the door. Mallory went downstairs and opened the door as she saw a woman in front of it.
She had short blonde hair, brown eyes with a pink dress and a gift basket. ‘’Hello! I am Lucy Gardner and I wanted to be a friendly neighbour and give you these! Can I come in?’’ She asked. ‘’I guess.’’ Mallory responded as Lucy came in and hugged her aunts. ‘’Anabelle! Dorothy! You’re looking sharp today, ready to open your bakery tomorrow?’’ Lucy asked. ‘’Yes, we are, thank you. Would you like to eat dinner with us?’’ Dorothy asked. ‘’No thank you, I have other houses to visit, I am the only real estate agent in the area. Bye, bye!’’ Lucy said as she walked out of the house.
Anabelle picked up the basket and smiled as she took a chocolate out of the basket. ‘’Tasty. But we must finish the bakery. We start tomorrow at 8:00.’’ Anabelle said going back to the cash register. Mallory walks to her room and finishes her room up completely by laying the bed. Mallory changes into her pyjamas and falls asleep hoping the best for the next day. In the morning, Mallory switched off her alarm clock and turned in bed as she saw the time. ‘’Time for school.’’ She says as she changes into a yellow dress and puts white sneakers on. Today was the first day after Autumn break and school was back in. Mallory walked downstairs to the bakery when she saw customers lined up. ‘’Morning Aunt Anabelle.’’ Mallory said. ‘’Good morning, dear! I am just in the middle of making this cake. Dorothy is sleeping, you can just make yourself a sandwich and then go to school. You can take the subway.’’ Anabelle said as she quickly served the customer in front of her. Mallory quickly made herself a jam sandwich and put it in her bag ready for school.
As she walked to the subway, she took a seat next to a kid with black hair and an annoyed frown, as Mallory turned around not looking. When the subway stopped, Mallory saw the boy run to the corner and a light appeared. Mallory went to go check it out and didn’t see him anymore, so she went back to school. Inside the school, people were everywhere talking, gossiping, and even shouting, Mallory ignored the loud noises and went the other direction to class. ‘’Morning students! Today we will be reciting the four main factors of math.’’ The teacher said as she filled out the board with facts. Mallory listened to the teacher and followed her instructions as she fell asleep in the class. ‘’Mallory!’’ The teacher called as Mallory got up in shock with marker on her face. ‘’Solve the problem 2x + 8.20+ 10x right now!’’ Mallory looked around at her laughing classmates and walked up to the front of the classroom thinking of what to write down. After school, Mallory returned to the house with her bag and a frown on her face. ‘’How was school?’’ Anabelle asked baking cupcakes for a customer. ‘’I got a D- in math. And then my teacher gave me a boatload of homework for getting one question wrong!’’ Mallory complained. ‘’It will all get better child. Now that you’re finished can you help me clean up the bakery? We are closing in a few minutes.’’ Dorothy said as she swept the floor. ‘’Okay.’’ Mallory responds as Dorothy sees the cake burning. ‘’Anabelle! I’ll do it myself.’’ Dorothy said as she ran to switch off the oven but left the broom.
And it was still sweeping by itself! ‘’Uhm...Aunt Dorothy?’’ Mallory asked. ‘’Yes dear.’’ Dorothy responded coating the cake with whipped cream. ‘’Your broom is sweeping by itself!’’ Mallory said alarmed. ‘’Goodbye! Have a nice day!’’ Dorothy said pushing the customer out. Anabelle came in and gasped at the broom smiling nervously at Mallory. ‘’I think it’s time for the talk.’’ Anabelle said.
‘’Here’s the thing, we are witches. Surprise!’’ Dorothy said as Mallory fainted on the couch. When Mallory woke up, she was holding a cup of cold water and slurping it down as Dorothy dabbed her head with a wet cloth. ‘’We are witches, and you are too. You are half witch and human. Your mother was a witch, and your father was a warlock, but his mother was human. We were going to tell you this year
