#1 The day my father went to prison, I was made fun of relentlessly. People treated my family differently after my father went to prison. Some of the kids I used to hang out with at the neighborhood weren’t allowed to come over anymore because their parents didn’t want them associating with criminals.

#2 The story of Dad’s sentencing demonstrates the importance of never gambling when the game is rigged. When the government comes for their pound of flesh, they get it.

#3 My father, who was a rancher, took pride in doing hard work every day. He didn’t care about money or impressing people, and he got that from his father.

#4 The multimillionaire corporate raider and convicted felon, Paul A. Bilzerian, sued a St. Petersburg Little League official after the official told the St. Petersburg Times that Bilzerian reneged on a pledge to give the league $5,000 if the 5-, 6-, and 7-year-old players raised an equal amount in a fund-raising drive. The court sided with the league.

My father was a very unusual man, and his parenting was no different. He never bought nice things, and he never wanted me to either. He taught me that the things people dislike the most in others are the same things they don’t like about themselves.

    #6

I was envious of Ernie, my father’s friend, who had a 9,000-square-foot mansion. I wanted to live like Ernie, not like my boring parents. I was scared of the paintball game at first, but eventually became excited.

    #7

Ernie was rich, but he didn’t act or think like the snooty country club guys in my neighborhood. While they were contemplating new golf clubs or what spoon to use for their caviar, Ernie was thinking about a new Cigarette boat or what girl he wanted to bring to a tropical island.

    #8

I had a hard time concentrating in class, so my parents took me to see a specialist. The doctor diagnosed me with attention deficit disorder, and suggested I take medication. My parents weren’t fans of medication, so I was constantly bored.

    #9

My father pawned me off on my mom’s stoner brother in Minnesota, Big Dan, in exchange for money. I was supposed to be good for the money, but my uncle pocketed the cash instead. I didn’t have any friends there, so I was constantly bored.

    #10

I was in seventh grade when I was kicked out of school for the second time that year for leaving gym class on the back of a drug dealer’s snowmobile. I didn’t leave for any particular reason; I just figured fuck it, what are they gonna do.

    #11

I went to a military boarding school called Admiral Farragut Academy, which the students lovingly referred to as Admiral Faggot Academy. The food was awful, and the barracks were even worse. I was crammed into a shoebox
