Although I am familiar with Rick Warren, had not heard about Matthew Warren's death until now in March 2022. I was saddened on many levels.
I have a daughter who suffers with mental illness. I have often pondered if adequate resources were available, whether she might overcome the devastating effects of mental illness. When I learned of Matthew Warren's death I was both saddened as well as surprised. I felt that if anyone was adequately equipped with sufficeient resources to combat mental illness, it would be someone like Rick Warren.
Not so.
Quickly I learned not much is known about Matthew Warren's personal life. Even today almost nine years later, not much is known. There have been some rude, unkind words directed at Rick and Kay Warren. From my vantage point those words are unwarranted. Yet I could not resist the urge to delve into the matter myself. I did some preliminary research with what information I had. I uncovered information that was startling as it relates to Matthew Warren and my very own daughter.
Before embarking on this short book I tried to reach Rick Warren a week or so ago via email at his primary email address for his ministry. I later tried to reach Kay Warren via Twitter. So far over a week now haVe not heard from either of them.
It was actually not my original intent to write this book, which is largely speculative as to the causes of the severe mental illness of the late, beloved Matthew Warren. My original intent was and is to write a book about the whole milieu of mental illness from a layman's point of view, of which I mentioned in my email to Rick Warren.
I thought about it, prayed about it. Ultimately, I decided to write this short open letter to Rick and Kay Warren. Sincerely, if either or both of them read this, I hope somehow it brings some illumination rather than more pain. When I say : "I feel your pain..:" , it is not and idle statement. As the parent of two children, who are both now adults, who daily suffer with mental illness, to some degree , I feel their pain. It is not my intent to intrude on the life of their beloved son Matthew. I am constantly pondering daily of ways that I can improve the quality of life of my two children ( now adults). Even though the illness is chronic, I am constantly in prayer, hoping that some day a miracle will occur.

Later In 1972 I abandoned pursuit of these abilities.In 2014 I resumed experimenting with paranormal abilities. Mainly because, I read about the James Randi org, which offered a 1 million dollar prize to someone who could demonstrate these abilities exist.As of 2015 this prize no longer exists.Sporadically now I practice paranormal abilities, since there is no longer a substantial prize incentive.
