The wintry landscape all around them was beautiful. Snow-capped mountains in the distance crowned the horizon, and rolling fields of green grass decorated the picturesque countryside. This part of the country was beautiful.

The same couldn’t be said of the mood in the car.

Kyle was driving. He stayed focused on the road ahead, trying not to notice the presence of the woman traveling with him. Haley was slouched in the passenger seat, bored and restless from the long journey, and unhappy with the person next to her.

She turned her eyes to the wing mirror and softened her frown, brushing a strand of brown hair away from her face and smiling at her model good looks. The asshole driving the car had said she was vain. He was one to talk.

She cast a sideways glance at the man driving the car, trying not to scowl. If she was being honest, he was actually pretty handsome. He had well-developed muscles under his long shirt, and the neatly trimmed ghost of a beard on his prominent jaw.

Right now, he was treating her like she didn’t exist. That was just fine.

Did Mr. Schwartz say when he and the others are getting to the cabin? Kyle asked suddenly, keeping his eyes on the road.

No, said Haley, suspicious of the attempt at conversation, why?
