Prologue

Face it, Danvers, Jennie Campbell beat you out again. You just don’t have what it takes to play with the top-notch sellers. You’re not hungry enough. It doesn’t make you a bad agent, it just means you won’t make it to the top ranks, drawled Mr. Hanson. "Look, I’ve known Jennie for a while. She’s a bitch! But, she has one hell of a fine body and she doesn’t mind using it if it gets her a sale. She’s willing to bend the rules when it suits her. And, as long as she brings in the sales and doesn’t run afoul of the law? Nobody is going to tell her no. And, she’s not the only one that does it. All the top sales agents tend to give a hundred and ten percent, if you know what I mean.

It may not seem entirely kosher to you, but simply put, she gets the job done. You, don’t. I appreciate that you don’t want to do that, so just be satisfied with the listings you can get without… Compromising, yourself. Okay? I’m sure you’ll land on your feet elsewhere. I promise I’ll give you a good recommendation. I just don’t need another so-so real estate agent, I have enough of those already. I need a Jennie Campbell!"

But… I can do it, Mr. Hanson. I know I can! Just don’t take the opportunity away from me, pleaded Bobbi Jo. Give me one more chance. Please?

Chapter 1

Roberta Joanne Danvers, Bobbi or Bobbi Jo to her friends, sat in the driveway of their Buckhead home. She hastily wiped at the tears that still threatened to pour out of her eyes. She didn’t want to go into the house and tell her husband that she’d failed. This had been her big chance, her big dream. She’d given up a good, solid career in business, to try her luck at real estate. She thought it would be glamorous and exciting. Visions of wealth dancing in her head.

Instead, after six months of studying and apprenticeship, and almost another year of essentially no income, she was about to be let go. How was she supposed to tell Mark that her big dream had turned into a nightmare? Telling him, she’d have to start all over again at the bottom someplace else. Especially, if she had to admit the reason for it turning into a nightmare. Her hatred for Jennie Campbell, and her ilk, growing with every breath she took.

Jennie had been someone she admired at first, seeing her drive around town in her expensive car and perfect wardrobe. She had the life that Bobbi wanted. It wasn’t until she got to know her better, to understand how she got to that point in her life, that Bobbi Jo began to feel differently about her. For that matter, about her new career choice, as well.

She knew that she was just as pretty as Jennie, prettier even. Younger, too! Her bouncy personality was perfect for the real estate profession. It was just that the top sellers, like Jennie, were willing to drop to their knees or spread their legs to pick up a sale. Bobbi Jo just couldn’t do that. It would destroy Mark if he ever found out that she’d cheated on him. Although, after being married for five years, there were times she found the idea tempting.

Not that their love life was bad, it was just boring. They’d gone from passionate love making to once a month wham, bam, thank you, sex. Sometimes without even the thank you. There was no spark anymore. It wasn’t all Mark’s fault, either. She knew that, it took two to tango. But, how do you keep it fresh and exciting when it’s the same person every time for over five years? Sure, it still felt good, but that was all. She didn’t come away breathless anymore. She couldn’t even remember the last time she’d had an earth shattering, screaming out loud orgasm. And, she missed it.

Finally, she opened the car door and went inside. Mark was probably wondering what she was doing out here. At least, he was if he realized she was home. He might have been back in their home office or involved with something else. She wished he’d get involved with her tonight. She could use some cheering up. She’d gotten Mr. Hanson to agree to one more month, but that was it. Honestly, unless she did something different, brought in something
