About this ebook

#1 Vickie was a happy and well-liked teenager, with a strict curfew and no strangers allowed in her car, who spent her free time at the roller rink or the Corral with her friends.
#2 The tragedy of early, violent death is that it strips away the person and leaves only the act. The killer has the power, while the one who dies loses it all.
#3 On the night of the murders, Vickie Zielinski was walking with her best friend, Barbara Nixon, to do their bookkeeping homework together. They met an older boy named Donald Hommell along the way, who would later be accused of being the killer.
#4 The next morning, the Zielinskis went out to find their daughter. They searched in circles, starting small, then making progressively larger circuits of the neighborhood. At the point where Ramsey ended and Mahwah began, they noticed a scarf lying in the mud.

Eddie Smith was a friend of Joe’s. He had grown up around Bergen County, and was always getting in trouble. He had quit or been fired from all sorts of jobs, and now he was out of work again.
#7
When Joe dropped off Eddie and his family, he got into the driver’s seat and switched seats with his wife sitting in the passenger seat. Before he sat down, he noticed a dark spot on the seat cover that hadn’t been there before and another spot on the floor mat.
#8
Joe was asked to pick up Eddie and his family from his mother-in-law’s house. He agreed, but said it would take him a while to get there. He stopped off at the Amoco gas station, where he ran into Don Hommell, another friend of his and Eddie’s. They spent a few minutes hanging out.
