Cherished Memories - Kelly Simpson
My Story, No Blame, No Shame!
When I was 16, I had a miscarriage 4-month gestation. I named her Hope. She is in Heaven, and Jesus is the best Daddy anyone can have. When I was 17, I gave birth to a daughter with Down Syndrome. I cherish every moment with her. When I was 19, I gave birth to a son who overcame many obstacles, including ADHD.
Sometime after divorce and life hit, I dabbled in drugs and alcohol. Of course, this was when my kids were teenagers and we lived close to my parents, so they had ample supervision. Since then, I have found many recovery programs, including Celebrate Recovery.
But, at the time, I had given up on life because I could not figure out how to change my life for the better. I surrendered to God. He told me that He is working all the time and He doesn’t need us to change the world. BUT that if we are willing, He will equip us and prepare us to change the world in His time, for His story and His Glory!
Today, I work as a Caseworker, managing caseloads. Some of these families have I.E.P.s and I. F. S. P. s, which are Individual Education Plans and Individual Family Service Plans for individuals with special needs. We also serve families who are challenged by Mental Health, addiction, employment issues, and who benefit from our services by learning about jobs, scholarships, getting their records cleared, bonding and opportunities for volunteering or serving on boards.
Last night, I picked up my 9-year chip from Celebrate Recovery. I took a picture of my chip and I shared it on Facebook. A friend of mine that I had previously met at a recovery home congratulated me on it. She told me that it gives Hope to others and You never know who may be watching, and the inspiration is touching
