    A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.

    James 1:8 KJV

    ––––––––

    CONVERSATION TIME:

    James 1:5-7 says: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

    The word double-minded is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as wavering in mind; undecided. In other words, a double-minded person is all over the place; restless. A double-minded person is confused in his thoughts and actions. In other words, part of him longs for a relationship with God, but the other part of him wants to keep living a life

    contrary to God’s will, even though he knows better. A double-minded man is a hearer but not a doer of the word. He has selective obedience. This means that he knows the Word, but he picks and chooses which parts he wants to obey. A person with an untamed tongue will bless God with the same tongue that curses others, which is a sign of double-mindedness. A man who seeks God in prayer half-heartedly or in doubt is double-minded, just as a man who consults everyone but God when they are in a crisis. A double-minded man does not make God a priority. He does not ask God to guide him throughout the day. According to James chapter 2, faith without works is dead. In other words, we must practice what we preach. A person who says that he has faith but his actions say otherwise, is double-minded too. In the book of 1 Kings, the Israelites were being wrongfully influenced by their king Ahab and his wife Jezebel. This power couple was very evil with Jezebel being the worst. She heavily influenced Ahab, who swayed back and forth like the sea driven and tossed by the waves, as mentioned in the book of James. When Ahab married Jezebel, she persuaded him to worship Baal, the idol god despite God’s first commandment. In the first of the ten commandments, God stated (Exodus 20:3 KJV), thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Still, Ahab built a temple to Baal, and Jezebel persuaded him to introduce the Israelites to the worship of the pagan god. This duo (Jezebel and Ahab) wrecked so much havoc together, and evil Jezebel went to the extent of killing God’s prophets. She did not want to hear the prophetic warnings from any of them. The truth hurt, so she tried her best to destroy every prophet- including one of my favorite prophets Elijah, but Elijah escaped. 1 Kings 18:21 reads: Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter

    between TWO opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him;

    but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him

    not a word. The Israelites said nothing because although they knew better, they were confused and double-minded. That is why Elijah asked them how long would they falter between two opinions- good vs bad...wrong vs right...Godly vs ungodly. You see, there is no in between. Our actions either glorify God or mortify Him.

    Instead of being a strong, confident leader and man of God, Ahab possessed a wimpy spirit and allowed Jezebel to lead him further astray. As a result, he never committed himself to God all the way. The bible says that Ahab did more to provoke God’s anger than any of the kings of Israel who reigned before Him.Unlike his wife, he did come to his senses when he humbled himself and repented to God for the terrible things he had done. However, Ahab lacked consistency and he did not serve God wholeheartedly. He is a prime example of double-mindedness.

    I am trying to paint a picture for you, so that you will know what double-mindedness looks like. Just in case you are still a bit clueless, let me tell you more. A double-minded man is confused about his sexuality. For many years he/she knew they were born male or female , but one day they woke up and decided they were nongender binary. A double-minded man has a mind that is always filled with uncertainty and inconsistency. His mouth says one thing today, but tomorrow it will say the opposite. His actions say that he walks with God when he is with this group of people, but when he is with another group of people he pledges allegiance to the devil. He acts as if God does not exist during the day when he is caught up in worldliness, but late in the midnight hour he may ocassionally acknowledge the Lord...when nobody else is there...almost as if he is ashamed to claim our creator. This is usually because his friends are not believers in God but are strong supporters of the power of self, sage, the ancestors, etc. Because the double-minded man’s faith is not deeply rooted in God, it is easy to coax him into believing that Jesus is only a way instead of  the way. This type of behavior is not pleasing to God, which is why He said, for let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. This lets us know that there are times when God will take His hands off of us and will remove His protection, but that is usually the last resort.

    In Matthew 10:33 NKJV Jesus said, "But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. This type of denial is much bigger than that of Jesus’ disciple Peter, whose denial was momentary and fear-driven. It
