Introduction
It was a dark and stormy night. Phillip had been driving home from work and was now about an hour away from his house. He had made it the last few miles but was now in the throes of a full-blown panic attack. His breaths came in short gasps, his heart was pounding so hard he could hear it in his ears, and his hands were shaking so badly he could barely keep them on the wheel. He saw the turnoff for his street up ahead and knew he wouldn't make it. The panic attack had come on so quickly there was no way he could calm down enough to drive any further.
He pulled over to the side of the road and turned off his car. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself down, but nothing seemed to help. His chest felt so tight that he worried he might have had a heart attack or something. Phillip called 911 just in case it was more than what he thought it was and then put on his hazards and waited for an ambulance to come to pick him up.
When the paramedics arrived, they gave him some oxygen because his blood pressure was through the roof and strapped him onto a gurney before loading him into their van, which is when all hell broke loose inside Phillips's mind, body, and soul.
He saw himself being wheeled into the ER, doctors, and nurses rushing around him as he lay there helpless. He could hear someone calling his name, but he couldn't make out who it was. The pain in his chest was so intense now that he thought he might die right then and there. And then suddenly everything went blank.
Phillip woke up the following day in a cold sweat. It had all been just a dream, thank God. But even though it had only been a dream, it had felt so real that for a few minutes after waking up, he wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't.
This is how many of us feel daily; we're not sure which thoughts are ours and which ones have been put into our heads by others. We're not confident if we are delighted with the way things are going in our lives or not; because deep down inside, we know that there is more to life than what we've been led to believe.
There is so much power behind every thought you think, every word you speak, and every action you take.
