Introduction:
I, the author, am doing the introduction and preface for Zippa’s Auto biography. She tells me she is a very humble dog( Yeah sure!) and hates to elaborate and brag about her elite statue as Royalty within the K-9 Kingdom. A dash hound ( Red neck for dachshund) is described as a K-9 half a dog high and two dogs long.
They are often referred to as Foxy Doxies and commonly believed to have originated in the 1600’s in Germany as hunting dogs to chase Boar and dig out burrowing Badgers . Their absolute origin is unknown and may go back to early Egypt. They are said to be a combination of German, French and English hounds with a little Terriers thrown in—love to cuddle—want full time attention-said to be unafraid of anything –(Not in my experience)–
Said to make great hot dog costume events and compete in Derby races for spectator entertainment; accused of being playful, affectionate and loving, but don’t let the loveable little tyke fool you, their cute face can be very disarming, Surprisingly ,this loveable weenie dog is considered the most aggressive of all dog breeds including the Pit Bull. Maybe if you’re willing to take on a Badger, I’d have to agree, but this has not been my experience with Zippa.
A curious historical event impacted the Dachshund In 1913. The Doxy was one of the most favorite US breeds, but the war with Germany killed their popularity and in 1919 it is said they were despised because of the name and numbered in the rare breed category in the US . Obviously since World War l they came back with a vengeance to become one of the most popular breeds today.
Notable owners include John F Kennedy, Dwight Eisenhower, Clark Gable , John Wayne, Carol Lombard, General George Patton, Jean Harlow, Joan Crawford, , Pablo Pacasso Teddy Rosevelt, Lliz Taylor, Doris Day, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Montana, Dick Clark. Pricilla Presley, Mary Tyler Moore , Cole Porter, Jacques Coustou, Dennis Miller, Marlon Brando, Vincient Price and too many more to name.
History records that Napoleon, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Victoria, also treasured their Dachshunds. Originally bred to tunnel aggressively into Badger Holes, they are now bred to tunnel aggressively into bed sheets
Why would you want a doxy? It has been said by others and agreed to by many. They are better than kids, they eat less, don’t ask for money , easier house broke, don’t borrow the car, don’t drink or smoke, don’t hang out with druggies, don’t need latest fashion, don’t care about politics, don’t break your bank for collage, and If they get pregnant, you can sell the puppies.

Preface
Dogs can’t talk ? Wrong!! Anyone that’s in love with their dog will tell you different. In my personal experience, Doxy’s are stubborn and hardheaded but highly intelligent(maybe too smart for humans and consequently don’t fit the intelligent scale used by the so called experts).
They, for the most part are short haired ,and their facial expressions and body language tell you exactly what they’re saying, or thinking. That crazy wagging tail say’s it all. You are always their hero and their God, no matter your status in life. The expression loving you for richer or for poorer , for better or for worse, was never more truthful than when you own a dog, I’m sorry I miss phrased that.
The dog owns you at least mine does. This auto biography is my interpretation of what my little hound dog Zippa has conveyed to me of her character, actions, and life with Fran and I in the exciting years she’s owned us. You know I fully agree with that age old fact, you can pay thousands of dollars for a dog, but only love will make it wag it’s tail.
Zippa was born wagging her tail. Life is what you make it and she don’t know how we made it this far without her; neither do we.
Acknowledgments:
Illustrative photos were selected from the Public Domain inventory of Pexels. All dog photos are privately owned by this Author and all incidents described or referred to are true to the extent of my belief in what I observed and assumed while living with Zippa.
Early on puppyhood activities were provided by Lloyd Roe and Lyndy Leftwich Rose. The actions, expressions and adventures of Zippa furnished exciting and humorous content for the entire narrative.
I apologize for anything you may find distasteful in her story but please remember, she is a very loveable dog and would be overjoyed to jump on your lap and kiss you.( even if you were as dirty as she is sometimes) .The title Zippa Slept Here
was selected because it is her most prominent feature. Neither rain, nor snow, nor death of night can interfere with her sleep. Awake it is her Tail
. It never stops wagging and she never stops loving you.
Dedication:
This work is dedicated to Lyndy Leftwich Rose and Lloyd Roe owners and breeders of the Pie Bald line of miniature Dachshunds they lovingly call Designer Doxy’s . Zippa is from one
