Welcome!
For a couple of years now I’ve been following on Instagram a fabulous American man, Steve Greig, who rehomes senior dogs. The name of the account is Wolfgang2242, if you’d like to jointeam member Liz is also a huge fan. We have been known to call each other in tears when one of the doggies has died. ‘Waylon has gone!’ I’ll sniff down the phone.’ I know Liz will understand. Another time it was one of the chickens, Oprah. I saw that she was gone and read Steve’s emotional tribute and just lost it. Because, let’s face it, sometimes we all just need a good cry. The point of me writing about Wolfgang2242 is to say how much I loved our story this week about Queenslanders Karen and Jamie (Page 60). Over the last 15 years, they have rehomed more than 50 senior dogs, giving them the most amazing love, care and affection in the final years of their lives. My own dog, Dizzy (who you can see heading our Pets are Pawsome spread on Page 18), is now 12, so very much a senior citizen. He is basically the old man who rules our household. His knees are a bit croaky, so he lets us know when he wants to get on or off the bed or couch with what we call his ‘cat-boy’ call. If you can imagine a dog meowing, that’s what he sounds like! Karen wants to encourage people thinking of adopting to consider a senior dog. And as the fur-parent of an old boy who gives us so much joy, I couldn’t agree more. I’d love to hear about your senior pets. And don’t forget to send us a pic too!
