From the depths of depravity comes another human being - no different than you or I. Ron knows how to survive. But his world is about to change.

Even though Ron's world is vastly different from yours and mine, you'll find yourself relating to him, plotting with him, and hoping for him. Every day Ronald sends that part of himself which is Ron out of the pit to collect money, news, and/or food.

These are the only things of value in the pit. To keep the reality Ron encounters from disturbing Ronald, Ronald breathes in Dragon's Breath and if it's too much, he takes Dragon's Tears. These are his rewards for Ron having brought back money, news and/or food to the pit. Ronald knows he can never leave the pit. And neither he nor Ron have any desire to do so, until Ron encounters Rose. Then they start to make a plan to escape.

Ronald slowly started to lift himself off of his pallet. Because Ronald hadn’t moved in a very long time, the first few inches were an immense struggle. Then Ron smoothly, quickly lifted himself the rest of the way off the pallet, as Ronald lay back down.

Ron walked up and out of the depths where Ronald was again sleeping and went off to find anything he could bring back – money, food, or news. These were the only commodities back in the pit. Ron would ignore everything else.

In spite of Ron’s single-mindedness, he seemed normal to everyone else on the surface. Perhaps they too had their own single-mindedness of purpose.

Obtaining news was easy – Ron just had to listen. Obtaining money took little work – people often left their money unguarded. Taking food was the hardest. The only food Ron ever encountered was either being sold or being eaten. In either case the food was well guarded. Perhaps today, Ron would get lucky and be able to bring back some food.

Today, however, there was a problem. Ron couldn’t
