      Aaron watched as Nicole fidgeted, kneeling with her back turned to him, facing the wall. He smiled to himself faintly, sensing her mounting discomfort as the moments dragged on. He knew she was beginning to wonder if he was ever going to let her stand up, if he was ever going to walk across the room. He also knew, from months of careful observation, that Nicole could tolerate much more discomfort than she was currently enduring.

      He let the still silence spin out a little longer, listened carefully for the faint sounds of her movements, her breaths.
