    Amanda sat down at her desk, sinking into the chair heavily. She could feel the blood rushing into her cheeks, the hot-and-cold flashes of her panic as her limbic system insisted on believing she was being chased by a bear.

    Breathe, she told herself, looking down at her keyboard and closing her eyes for just a moment. She felt pricks like tiny needles stabbing her eyes, and swallowed, her throat tight, her heart hammering in her chest. She gripped the armrests of the office chair as tightly as she could, trying to keep a grip on her rising sense of panic.
