Natalie fidgeted in the passenger seat of Evan’s car, casting furtive glances his way as the car traveled down the highway. I know you’re nervous, Nat, Evan said, glancing at her briefly as he navigated through the traffic, a slight smile on his face. But I know you’ll love it. Natalie tried to make herself stop fidgeting, tried to let the music that Evan had put on lull her into a calm, but it was difficult.

Every few moments, she felt the blood rushing into her face at the realization of how short her dress was, or how low-cut it was in the front. She swallowed against her dry throat and picked up the bottle of water she had let Evan buy for her at the gas station before they had started on their journey south.
