Fanny Addison was mostly grateful for her life. She had a reasonably good job; it kept a roof over her head and paid her bills. She didn’t really need much. She tutored students who attended an exclusive private school. The only thing she really had to complain about was the fact that she had the great misfortune to be named Fanny Addison.

Fanny was her real, legal name. She had no idea what her parents were thinking when they agreed to write that on her birth certificate, but there wasn’t much she could do about it.
