      Faith slammed the door behind her as she returned to the apartment. She jerked her head around so violently that her hair whipped around her face and the tracks of her tears were visible underneath her hazel eyes. She dropped her bag on the floor and flung herself down on the couch, where her best friend and roommate, Sarah, was waiting.

      Another one bites the dust? Sarah asked. Faith looked up at her and Sarah was instantly moved by the bleary and bloodshot eyes. Faith’s lip began trembling.

      I really liked him, she said, and collapsed onto her friend’s shoulder. Sarah wrapped her arms around Faith and held her tightly, brushing away her hair and making comforting sounds. Sarah’s body shook with soft sobs, but eventually she stopped shaking.

      Why does this always happen? she said, her sorrow being replaced by rage, you think you’re getting close to someone and then they pull away. It happens every time. What is wrong with me?

      There’s nothing wrong with you, Sarah reassured, it happens to me too.
