About this ebook

God’s Care for the Brokenhearted

Immobilizing sadness. Loss of interest and appetite. Feeling numb. Bitterness and anger. There are so many emotions and stages of grief, and we don’t always know what to say to loved ones that are going through the pain of loss.

Filled with scriptures, easy-to-understand summaries, charts, and practical applications, this pamphlet can help a grieving friend ease their journey through stages of grief. Words of comfort and biblical examples of grief for losses of many kinds help to give perspective, meaning, and hope to the devastation of loss through death, divorce, and the ending of significant relationships.

Loss is inevitable. But hope is available.

Everyone goes through loss, but the pain of losing a loved one is especially difficult. It seems that the sadness will go on forever. Every moment is consumed with the overwhelming grief that the loss is final. The agony makes us wonder if the tears will ever stop. Our hearts break with despair. We desperately want some sense of comfort. We need compassion and understanding. We long for a time of renewed hope and a reason for living.

And the Scripture gives us this message of comfort—God sees your broken heart. He hears your cries. He cares for you and has a message you need to hear.

Comfort for Loss - Jessica Curiel

WHEN LIFE is TURNED UPSIDE DOWN

    Bench in a park

Whether the loss is something we anticipate or something that shocks us, large or small, it leaves a hole inside us. When we lose something or someone significant we feel alone. We wonder if God can hear us in our pain—or if he is even up there at all. Despite our difficult feelings, God has promised that he will always be with us, even in the darkest, most lonely moments. He has not left us alone and is not silent about our fears. He speaks to us in the Bible and guides us with his Spirit as we face painful losses.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. — Psalm 34:18

‘Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,’ says the Lord, who has compassion on you. —Isaiah 54:10
